Rating: Summary: Unbelievably compelling Review: "Finding Fish" is one of those books that I could not put down. It would move me to tears and make me laugh on the same page. While most people's spirits would have been crushed by what was a horrifically heartbreaking childhood, Antwone ultimately triumphs. He is a genuinely gifted writer. I have recommended this book to everyone I know.
Rating: Summary: A Book You Can't Put Down Review: After I watched the movie with the same name, I had to have the book. When it arrived, I was captivated by each page. To see how Antwone suffered and made something of his life inspired me. His story truly shows that you can't use the bad circumstances in your life as an excuse to be "bad." I would love to read more about his life now.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Memior Review: Although, he had a trouble life as a child this book pulled you in to feel for him. To want him to escape. I loved it because it was real, it was true, it was not fiction. It was wonderfully written and is probably one of the reasons why I want to be a social worker. I highly reccommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Not only an inspiration... Review: Antwone Fisher was not just a movie it was an inspiration and something that I will carry with me for the rest of life. Seeing this movie more than three times and crying each time made me learn more and more each time. Mr. Fisher had taught me that when life gets hard you have to stay strong and as wise as you can because someday the day will come for you and you'll acutally get something good in return. The movie was great but the book is even greater. I'm not quite done yet but I'm almost there (I'm on four) and I have learned more things in the 3 days that I've been reading than in the 10 days I do at school. Even though Im only 15 knowing, learning, and reading about Mr. Antwone Fisher has made a real huge impact in my life because I understand that being black is a struggle, but some of the things that he went through a young child never should. And I just want to say thank you to Antwone for making it through his struggle and I want him to know that he has really made a lot of people including myself look at life differently. Thank You very much and I'm sorry that you had to go through some of the things that you did but god knew exactly what he was doing and by you telling your story you have changed peoples way of living and even thinking.... May god continue to bless you more and more each day and may you continue to pray... I hope that you realize that you are a life saver and a very strong blackman and I hope that you always keep your head up and never ever let it hang low.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing story of strength Review: As I started reading it, the tears were falling, If I didn't know it ended on a happy note I could not have finished it. We selected this for our monthly read and it was such a deep story I had trouble even getting my thoughts out for our discussion. As a nurse I have known many Antwones. I was amazed at his strength! I found myself cheering him along as i was reading it even though i knew it was the past. The book had me so pulled in the moment with him. A book I will not soon forget.
Rating: Summary: AN INSPIRING CHRONICLE OF SELF-DISCOVERY Review: Before reading the novel, many people saw the movie that was inspired by the life story of Antwone Fisher. Both are fascinating character studies that chronicle the hard life of a disadvantaged young man who lived to tell the tale.
I am always amazed by the number of children who become "throwaways" after being tossed into a flawed foster care system. Antwone's story, however, shows that childhood adversities CAN be overcome through hard work, diligence, and a desire to succeed. Achieving an appreciation for his own dignity and worth, however, was the goal that dominated Antwone's search for self-discovery and, ultimately, allowed him to thrive, while his less confident peers were swallowed whole by an uncaring system. More than our sympathy, Antwone deserves our congratulations for conquering such a formidable adversary.
Rating: Summary: Bravo, Fish! I salute you! Review: Excellently written and an inspiration to all who read this book.
Rating: Summary: Finding Fish is extraordinary! Review: Finding Fish is an excellent story filled with emotion. The life story of Antwone Fisher is moving, touching, and unforgettable. His story will inspire you to be all you can be, no matter what the circumstances are. It teaches you to love and believe in yourself no matter what, and it teaches you to love others. It would be hard for me to believe that there could be someone out there who was not the slightest bit touched by this book, not the slightest bit moved, or not feeling any compassion for Antwone Fisher. It touches everyone on some level or another, and is interesting until the very end! Finding Fish is a great book, and I recommend it with all my heart!
Rating: Summary: Finding Fish Review Review: Hello, I think that this book was really good. It was about a young boy named Antwone who ever since he was born has been living in foster institution. He stayed with a husband and wife name the Picketts who were very cruel to Antwone. He suffered more than a dozen years of mental abandonment and physical abuse. Also while he was in junior high some of his close friends were shot, or had committed suicicide. Antwone eventually ran away from the Picketts and enlisted in the U.S. NAVY. I think this is a book mostly for pre-teens and up. Because pre-teens, teens, and adults would have a better perspective on what's going on. This is an excllent book for any reader who wants to be inspired by a good book.
