Summary: Baby Catcher is a Fascinating Look at Midwives...
Review: Have you wished for a less-sterile, more hopeful birth experience? Peggy Vincent's stories of "catching" babies will fill that void. She reminds you that birth is a uniquely feminine experience, and that no matter what or where a woman chooses to labor, instinct and human nature often run counter to the (often male) medical establishment.

This book has stories of wonder, of grace, of sorrow, and of hope. The characters will stay with you long after you've read the last page. The dire circumstances of midwives and their careers in the United States will leave you concerned about the birthing options American women will have in the future.

I strongly encourage anyone interested in babies or birth to read this book---and if you want to be a nurse, it's a must-read!

Summary: Amazing
Review: I am a nursing student planning to enter the field of midwifery. This book spoke directly to me. I felt as if I was there with Ms. Vincent as she experienced multiple miracles (daily)! She took an honest look at the wonders and trials associated with her chosen field. This book has served as great fuel to my fire for birth attended by midwives.

Summary: Baby Catcher
Review: This is one of the best books I've ever read. I finished it last night and am feeling sad it's over. Peggy Vincent has a rare gift for writing and relating. Each page contains so many tidbits of wisdom, humor, love and down-to-earth practical advice that it's hard not to fall in love with this wonderful, wonderful book.

I found myself in tears many times throughout this book. Peggy is truly a remarkable woman it seems and the women of the Bay area (& the world) are better off because of her.

Thanks, Peggy, for sharing!

Summary: I never wanted it to end!!
Review: I am what I call a birth Junkie! I can't get enough birth story books or watch enough births on television! I have just had my second hospital baby and this book has convinced me that I will have our next child in a birhing center or at home. I have had a midwife for both of my births and have thought the world of their profession ever since, they are conected to the mother for life like you can never imagine and this book shows that connection. I would recommend this book to anyone who is pregnant or who is just like me and loves birth stories.

Summary: speachless
Review: I am a mother of two & well sort-of mom to a few that I didn't give life to. I picked up this book by accident- thought I'd picked up a parenting book. I got the book home and was speachless that I'd goofed, decided to read it anyway because I like most books with relation to children & life. I absolutely fell in love with it, I couldn't put it down. Ms. Vincent has an incredible way of teaching you, while at the same time making you feel like you already knew what you just learned. She has such passion for both life, and her career that you feel as if you were there at the births with her. I had a disabled child for my first one almost everything said he would die, I was terrified, the midwife that worked with my physician prayed, yes prayed, with me, for me, for him and he lived. After he was born she sent me a card saying she just knew he'd be ok, she said she never doubted I could do it, I,until he lived, didn't believe her. He's now going to turn four in June. My point to this is, that much like my midwife, Ms. Vincent has a gift, she lets you experience all the emotions of birth... including the grieving,& the unexpected all the while giving you the encouragement to try new things. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever had a passion for life,in whatever form it happens. Thankyou, Ms. Vincent, for sharing your passion, a part of you,and your families, I can't wait until your next book.

Summary: If all deliveries could be natural and peaceful
Review: This book was on my mind, ever since I was aware of its creation. Reading it took priority for the few days it took to complete it. I am an OB Nurse in an upstate New York Hospital, and a avid proponent of a natural, peaceful childbirth. Reading about the experiences Peggy had as a Mid-wife, only solidified my convictions that this experience can be as wonderful as it was designed to be if it is allowed....and this can be done only by very special people.
Since I have read the book, I haven't stopped talking about it to my co-workers. In a very short time, they will be hooked too! It takes special people, and their families to really appreciate the "Birth Experience"....especially when it involves that "special pizza" and the uniqueness of that situation.
What I liked best about the book, is the Oh so spiritualness of bringing a baby into the world. How Peggy captured the wonderful journey of the mother and baby that sometimes can be so solitary, and beautiful, if the woman is allowed to do what is natural.
This book is a must read for any woman, man, child who has been gifted with the desire to share the world with the inhabitants of those who LOVE childbirth!

Summary: inspiring and encouraging...
Review: I'm 30 weeks pregnant with our first child, and am planning on having a natural childbirth with a certified nurse midwife, albeit in a hospital, not at home. Our childbirth educator has suggested reading as many birth stories as possible, so I picked up "Baby Catcher" last weekend (based mainly on the cute cover - yes I often judge a book by its cover) and couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The vivid and inspirational stories of strong women giving birth to their children without all the medical interventions that have become so commonplace today have given me the much needed courage to say yes, I *can* do this, and it might even be kind of fun. Ms. Vincent has a knack for capturing the essence of each of her patients' unique birth experiences, and I would recommend this to anyone contemplating trying for a natural childbirth.

Summary: A Must-Read for women and moms, men and dads, grandmas...
Review: I was seven months pregnant with my third child when I met my neighbor who mentioned she had just written this book. In addition to having twice experienced childbirth, I have a master's degree in maternal and child health and have worked for years in this field, so it was an obvious read for me--and I expected to enjoy it. What I didn't expect was how beautifully it is written and how quickly it engages you--I couldn't put it down. We had company that day, but I found myself hiding in the bathroom to read another chapter, and another. I passed it on to my husband who told me he cried and laughed out loud as he read it on his flight to Tokyo that week. Before he arrived back home from that trip, I knocked on Peggy's door with my two preschoolers in tow, and entreated her to catch my third child--perhaps the only experience that could rival reading this book!

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: I LOVED this book! Devoured it in a day and a half. I loved reading about the normal process of birth - women's bodies are designed to give birth and many births can be done in the comfort of home without interventions. Here we get to read story after story of women who created births that they wanted, births that they were comfortable with from those at home, to those at the birthing center. It also shows the darker side of birth, the politics of birth, the unnecessary interventions as well as the life-saving interventions. It truly is a beautiful, wonderful, inspiring and encouraging book. For women considering home birth, for people wanting to learn more about what birth is really like - not just the flat on your back, legs up in stirrups version - this is a book that so many people can learn from - READ IT!!
