Summary: A new favorite
Review: This lovely book has become an overnight favorite in our household. Although it is written by an eight year old girl who was adopted as a baby from China, it is much more than an adoption story. I was surprised at how much I really loved Ying Ying Fry's book, given that I have taken my own adopted girls back to China several times and visited their orphanages, etc. But it is a book that is easy to like and feel comfortable with. It flows with grace and young wisdom, innocent humor and surprising depth. While Ying Ying does touch upon some painful aspects of her own searching and questions as she yearns to make sense of everything that has happened to her, they do not overhwhelm or frighten the reader. Again, the things Ying Ying writes about are all familiar topics to me and to my daughters as well but we were still gripped by the book's genuineness. I wanted to capture what was on every page fully and Ying Ying makes it very easy to do that. My eight and nine year old daughters were both delighted with the book and each want their own copy. I even caught my husband bent over it the other night and I never see him bent over anything but assignments he is correcting. Ying Ying's story is an inspiration, for in the engaging style she tells it in, I believe she has successfully paved the way for many other children to step forward and begin such sharing. I will be giving the book to many families.

Summary: A must-read for families adopting from China
Review: Ying Ying Fry has written a poignant book of her family's return visit to the orphanage where she spent the first months of her life. The book provides readers a unique opportunity to view life in a Chinese orphanage, as well as Ying Ying's own thoughts on being adopted, and the cultural reasons behind the abandonment of so very many babies, mostly females. The pictures are beautiful, and her writing is both honest and insightful. Besides being incredibly educational for adoptive parents, it is an ideal resource for introducing any child to the concept of international adoption. We are in the process of adopting a baby girl from the same orphanage featured in the book, which made it all the more touching for us to read. I look forward to sharing it with our daughter someday.

Summary: Kids Like Me in China
Review: Ying Ying tells a wonderful tale of our children's beginnings in China. I was moved to tears at the dedication picture alone -- for I have the same picture of Li Yongqing but holding my little boy who was adopted from China in 1998.

'Kids Like Me' is a story that can be read over and over again and will help to answer many of the 'why' questions that kids [and some adults] pose about life in China before our forever families were united. It will also inspire our own children to write their own stories. But Ying Ying wil be a tough act to follow!!
