Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I'd give it six if you'd let me! Review: I am reading this book right now and I keep having to put it down so I can put my face in my hands and shriek with laughter. Not only is her account of Sam's first year tender, but the way Lamott's personality shines through, and the way her wonderfully eccentric "extended family" becomes real in these pages, make this book genuinely a blast to read. Plus, as a recovering alcoholic, slightly profane Christian woman with a healthy contempt for conservatives myself, it is a HUGE relief to see that no, I really don't have to reconcile any of that! The conversational tone add to the feeling that, once you've read the book, you really do know everyone in it. This is the first time I've ever read one of Lamott's books, but I plan to read much more from her in the future.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Very good! Review: I wanted to read this book so I could get a better understanding of what many of my friends are going through, and so I could begin to get some idea what I am in for when I have kids. This book offers excellent insight onto just how big of an impact having a child has on your life. It sounds like having a kid is about the most dramatic lifestyle change possible. I was also pleasantly suprised by the spirituality in the book. I may not share all of her beliefs, but it is always interesting to read how other Christians deal with the onslaught of the world around them. I would have given the book five stars, but the animosity towards George Bush, and conservatives in general, was a little much. I do understand that everyone is entitled to their own points of view, so, rather than putting down her beliefs, I will just relish the prospect of another George Bush taking up residence in the White House in the near future. Very funny, very touching, and a very good book. Highly recommended.

Review: I read this book a year before I had my first child, and then again the week after she was born. Between my own "baby blues" and the baby's constant crying, I needed a friend, and nobody in the world made me feel better than Anne Lamott. If you have a baby, are having one, or have ever been one <G> this book will make you smile, cry, and just feel pretty good about life.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is how it IS! Review: Although troubled Anne Lamott found great happiness in Sam..and we all do! This is truly a great shower present. I am so happy this book made it on the non-fiction top 100 list!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not a mom but I loved it Review: I was inspired to buy this book after I read "Bird by Bird," which I also loved. Lamott has a unique voice and tremendous insight into the human condition. Not to mention being laugh out loud hilarious. A deceptively easy read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An introduction to an endearing, interesting person Review: I was completely taken in by this book. Not only does it give a poignant description of life with a new baby, but it is also a portrait of an endearing and very funny woman who is triumphing in her attempts to deal with single motherhood, recovery, and the sad and funny complications of life. She's able to do this by relying on her quirky Christian faith and a cast of supporting characters that lend this journal the qualities of a novel. I have also read Traveling Mercies, and have become a huge fan of Anne Lamott's, mainly for the warm support she lends to my own faith and her description of events that make me laugh out loud. She is profane at times, but she's an original.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Honest, funny and poignant Review: I am in love with Annie Lamott. Thanks to my best friend for turning me on to her! My daughter is 8 now, but when she was a baby she did NOT have colic and I DID have a husband to help. All that said, I still found this book to be right on the money in describing the highs and lows of the first year of motherhood. For those of you who have been upset at Annie's comments on circumcision and George Bush - lighten up. Those are her OPINIONS and the last time I looked, this was the United States wherein everyone had the right to express their opinion. Annie has a right and a parental duty to express her political opinions to her son - we are doing the same with our daughter. If you ask her about Bill Clinton she will tell you the truth; that he is a lying, sexual preditor. That is my opinion. Regardless of your politics or your views on circumcision, please read this book. It is the perfect baby shower gift.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Required Reading for Single Mothers Review: I read every pre-natal book I could find. This was, by far, the best. It is the most honest and genuine book of first year child-rearing and single-parenting that is available. Not having any personal role-models, I got quite tired of reading books that portray parenting through the rose-colored glasses of pure maternal bliss and the presumption that a doting father would always be at hand. This book shows all of the trials and tribulations of new motherhood with great (and sometimes biting) humor and comfort. And most of all, it showed me that I wasn't alone and that *YES* I would survive when I was absolutely sure I wouldn't...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Epiphany Of A Talent Review: Anne Lamott's clear, strong, beautiful words call up a sense of how we operate in this world. Because of her openess, we follow her refinement of the spirit, how her beautiful spiritual consciousness is quietly operating. I did not want this book to end. A must read for anyone raising children.
