Rating: Summary: Not every mother loves her own children Review: Well...after reading all Dave Pelzer's books 'A child called it','The lost boy',and 'A man named Dave' I must say that I have found one more reason to appreciate and be happy with what I've got so far from life. His message in these books is "Whenever you feel down or depressed just think of having a mother who would call you 'it' and leave you without food, without a bed to sleep or a place to breathe and live' Don't miss out...
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read Review: I highly recommend A Child Called It and also the two sequels, The Lost Boy and A Man Called Dave.....these three books are page-turners plain and simple...Knowing that it is a true story makes it all the more fantastic. This book, A Child Called It is Daves childhood, The Lost Boy is his teen years, and A Man Named Dave is his adulthood... If it weren't a true story and I would be asked to read it and guess the author I would have guessed Stephen King whom I believe is a great author.... This book is educational, inspirational, and enlightening...I actually cried a little when Dave finally found his true love. Buy this book and the other two also...you won't be disappointed. I loved these books! H. Keller
Rating: Summary: a better understanding Review: This book was a sad but fantastic read. It was wonderfully written and for someone who has had a "normal" childhood it allowed me to gain a better understanding of those children and adults that we see everyday who stare at the floor and cut themselves off from the rest of us. Perhaps there is something that is troubling them, something they cannot tell anyone about. This book has made me think twice about people. There were a couple of girls I used to go to school with who were always the odd ones out due to their clothes, their smell and the fact that they would sit on their own at play time, I have now wondered if they were troubled, I just hope that if they were that they would have come out the otherside. Anyone who reads this book will be compelled to buy "The lost boy" and "A man named Dave," I read all three in 1 week.
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking Review: When I read a book it should catch me within the first chapter or I'll lay it away and don't look in it anymore. This book cought me within the first page! I've read it in about 3 days and I find it amazing that this man still has such a loving heart and the courage to write his life down. I think it made me more understanding towards people with a disorted childhood and I think it's a great help to a lot of struggling adults and children. Dave just prooves that there's light at the end of the road but it doesn't come easy!
Rating: Summary: I think "A child called It" was a good book Review: The book "A child called It" was a good book to read but the only parts I didn't were that his mother used to beat him up and starve him for days. I can't believe this book was a true story. I'm glad that now he has a good life and has had the help he needed to go on in life. Now he has a child of his own and he treats him with respect and handles him with the love any normal parent would give. I'm glad that now he has his life together. One scene was where the mother put him in the tub in cold water and she made him stay there for a very long time. I don't see how any normal parent could do this to their child. I recommend this book for everyone to read because it's a good book.
Rating: Summary: The Review Review: The book that i read was the The Child Called It. It was a good story and it was a sad story too. The boy was always geting hit and his mother never fed him. The best part in the story is when he started to defend himself and tries to get food from the other students in school. I recomend people to read this book because it is a good story.
Rating: Summary: BOOK REVIEW, A CHILD CALLED "IT" Review: THE BOOK A CHILD CALLED "IT" WAS BASICALLY ABOUT A CHILD WHO WAS ABUSED BY HIS MOTHER FOR MOST OF HIS CHILDHOOD. HIS MOTHER WAS AN ALCOHOLIC WHO TORTURED HIM BY NOT GIVING HIM FOOD FOR DAYS AND PLAYING GAMES WITH HIS MIND THAT ALMOST LEFT HIM DEAD. THE MAIN CHARACHTER, DAVID, LEARNS TO TRY TO OUTWIT HIS MOTHER, BY STEALING SCRAPS OF FOOD FROM THE GARBAGE. HE LEARNS TO TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF AND FEND FOR HIMSELF BY STEALING FOOD FROM STORES DOWN THE STREET. I THINK THE TITLE OF THE BOOK, IS VERY APPROPRIATE, BECUASE DAVID'S MOTHER THINKS OF HIS AS SOMETHING AND NOT SOMEONE. I LIKED THE BOOK VERY MUCH BECAUSE IT SHOWED ME HOW THANKFUL I SHOULD BE FOR MY FAMILY AND EVERYTHING I HAVE. ONE OF DAVID'S STRENGTHS WAS HIS SMART STRATEGIES TO OUTWIT HIS MOTHER. ONE OF HIS WEAKNESSES WAS THAT HE BELIEVED EVERYTHING HIS MOTHER SAID, WHICH I DON'T BLAME HIM FOR BECAUSE HE DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER. THE END OF THE BOOK IS VERY UNUSUAL, BECAUSE IT LEAVES OFF WHERE YOU DON'T KNOW WHETHER DAVID GETS AWAY FROM HIS MOTHER OR NOT. IT HAS REALLY MADE ME THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE WORLD TODAY. OVERALL, I THINK IT WAS A GREAT BOOK!
Rating: Summary: A Spellbinding Story Review: A child Called "It" is a spell binding book which I read in less then 4 hours. It told to sad truth and drew a gruesome picture in my mind about how Davids life was. It made you feel his pain, and want to help him. You can't help but fall in love as the little boy who loved his life grew into a life he feared as well as hated. This is a must read!
Rating: Summary: excellent book Review: Excellent book. Very gripping story. Couldn't put the book down. Brought me to tears in parts that any woman could treat one of her children in this manner.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: This book was very interesting. The author did a great job of being descriptive and informative. David Pelzer was a little boy who was abused by his mother for many years. His father tried to stand up for him, but after awhile David's mother was just too controlling. Everytime David's mother would hurt and abuse him, I was appalled that someone would have that much hate in their body. The worst abuse would come when David's father and brothers were out of the house. When his mother would beat him, David would try to count the seconds until they would come home and "save" him from his evil mother. David's life was pretty normal with his family until one day when his mother got mad at the kids and abused David. Life was never the same for their family. His school was the place where he would feel safe and even happy. His home was in a normal neighborhood and they had neighbors who had no idea of what would happen inside the walls of the house. Whenever a neighbor would ask the mother why David couldn't play outside with the rest of the kids, his mother would always come up with some excuse like "He is sick" or "He has to work on a project for school." As you can see, David's mother didn't want anyone to know the "family secret." The theme of this book is courage. David always had courage and that courage helped him survive.
