Rating: Summary: A summary of The Child Called It Review: A Child Called It, is a compelling story about David Pelzar, who's mother brutally beat him as a child. As the story unfolds it tells about a young boy and his relatively normal family. Every year they go on David's favorite vacation, a trip to the Russian River. As the years go by his mother becomes an alcoholic and starts treating him as a slave instead of a family member. David's father is on his side throughout the story, but is also afraid of his mother. As the story continues the abuse gets worse. The part that really makes you feel his pain is when she burns him on a stove. "Mother then reached over and turned on the gas burners to the kitchen stove." It is lines like this that really make you feel for David. He is treated like an outcast in his own family. He is not allowed to eat, except garbage scraps every 7-10 days. He even has to sit in the basement, in a "prisoner-of-war" position, and listen to the family eat dinner. Then he has to do all the clean up and if he doesn't the abuse gets worse. This story makes you cry at parts and makes you realize that child abuse is very prevalent in today's society.
Rating: Summary: A Child Called 'It': One Child's Courage to Survive Review: Dave Pelzer takes you through his own personal and gruesome journey of a young child victimized and tortured by his mother, who is an alcoholic and a child prepetrator. He explains in full detail how his mother picked him as the scapegoat in the family and began beating and torturing him with unspeakable crimes of child abuse and how his passive father allowed the abuse to continue as the family secret. His parents deprived him of unconditional love, nutritional food, clothes, shelter and friends, but provided these needs to his siblings. As he lived in fear of his mother, his inner hope and strength came through his creative imagination and will to survive his Mother's wicked and abusive games. His hero was his father, until his father abandoned him. Not only was he rejected and abused at home, but by his classmates and peers at school. As a young child growing, Dave Pelzer, came into face to face contact with teachers, principals, neighbors, store owners, and a social worker. All of these adults ignored the bruises, scars, torn clothes, body odor, and the need for food-until one school day- the family secret was exposed.
Rating: Summary: One Child's Courage to Survive! Review: A Child Called It was one of the best books I have ever read. As I was reading it, I couldn't imagine living through how much Dave went through. You will feel so bad for this boy after what he had been through. So if you have a chance, read A Child Called It as soon as you can get your hands on it. Also, look for the sequels to it: The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. A fourth book was published by Mr. Pelzer, too. It is not one of his life but it could help you get through tough times.
Rating: Summary: Unimaginably True Review: It's hard to say that this is a "good" read. Pelzer's childhood is filled with the most cruel and bizarre abuse you could ever imagine. What is good about this book is that it informs its readership of the horrors inherent in child abuse and demonstrates the incredible inner strength of the author. I have many questions (Was Mother ever arrested?) that will hopefully be answered in the sequels to this account. A Child Called "It" deserves your reading time. I will warn you that it's a hard read given the torture Pelzer was subjected to, but go ahead and feel the anger, the pain, and the dismay. Gather it all up and turn it into something positive and supportive of children.
Rating: Summary: A "Stand Up" book Review: I enjoyed Dave's book. It is honest and truthful and to the point. It is also written from a child's point of view.As I was raised, and horribly abused in a Jacksonville, Florida I was rather surprised to learn, years later, that "parents" would also abuse their children. (Who would ever think?) I had always thought that this horrible type of abuse was meant for orphans and unwanted institutionalized children. That is what we were told, and led to believe, for years.Author, Roger Dean Kiser, Sr. "Orphan, A true story of Abandonment, Abuse and Redemption."
Rating: Summary: A Child Called It Review: This is a wonderful book for all ages. It was a jaw dropping book about a young boy that was treated wonderful in his young years, but as soon as he got to be a little older, he was abused my his mother. Your probably wondering what his father did, well you have to read to figure that out. This is an awesome book that will make you thank god for how lucky you are to have parents that care about you. If you think you have it bad now, wait till you read the horrible things David Pelzer (also the writer of the book) went through, he had brothers that were treated wonderfuly, but David got the short stick and had to be Cinderella. The things his mother made him go through, and his brothers just sat there and laughed. David was not allowed to be like the other kids. And when his mother says, "I don't love you!" It makes you want to hear "I love you" everyday from your parents. After I was finished reading this book, I recommended this book to all of my friends. They all said that it was an awesome book, but some things that happened to David were sick and twisted. If you want to read a great book about a caring and thriving child that lived through some of the most horrible things in his life, read this novel and thank god for the parents you have.

Rating: Summary: A Child Called "It" Review: This is a very good book. Its about a little boy and he gets mistreated by his mom, and when he gets into troulbe, he gets a very bad punishment. Onetime his mom was going to make him sit on a stove that has been on for like 30 or 40 minutes. But he tries to do something to keep his mind off of what his mom was fixing to make him do, so he tries to think of something like ice cream, something good. But then, she stops feeding him, so he decides to steale it from school, and from neighbors. When his mom found out, she made through-up everyday, until he didn't steal anymore. His mom makes him sit in the bathroom, and she mixed amonia and bleach, and made him drink it. The boy is about 6 or 7 years old, and they already mistreating him, it is a sad and good book, well, he finally gets the wish he has been wishing for, forever, he doesn't get mistreated anymore. It is the best book that i have read in a long while.
Rating: Summary: 12 year old reader from WI Review: A Child Called 'it' was an amazing story that I recomend to anyone, whether you love to read or not. This story is about a young boys courage to survive. In this book you hear about all of the things that his horrible mother does to him, how his brother don't care, and his father chooses to ignore it. After reading this book it helps you to relize how good your life really is. The things that his mother does to him is disgusting and how he manages to survive i have no clue but he has to be one of the bravest people on this earth to be able to.
