Summary: Story needed to be told
Review: This is a triumph of human interest storytelling.Anyone who likes this will like "The Wanderer" by Ken Grant, which was written some time before this but which made Grant a target for reporting on his experiences growing up as a handicapped,abused, neglected youngster abandoned into state care with an unknown family history at age 1. Pelzer reports sensitively on the myriad issues evoked by this dysfunctional family life.

Summary: A child called "it"
Review: A child called "it" is about a young child named David that is abused all the time by an abusive mother. But his mother, Catherine Roerva has not abused her other sons and she has no daughters. His father was Stephan Joseph, stephan was once David's hero, and David often looked upon his fathers slim face for protection against his mothers aggressive fury. He had not been abused throughout his life however, it all started when he was 7 years old because David and his other brothers were mischeivous. though, David was the only one who had been punished. Catherine sent David to his room, with a fearsome voice. Soon enough, the nurturing mother turned into a wicked witch and scared David everytime she spoke aloud to Him or his brothers. He would run to hide in his room, hoping his mother would return to her past form, drinking on the sofa watching t.v.
This is a sad touching story that can leave you thinking all day on what David has went through and what you would do if you were in his tattered shoes. That not everyone has a life such as you with money and parents who love you and don't abuse you.

Summary: A Child Called It
Review: As a teacher of high risk children it is very difficult to get a student to independently open a book let alone read it. A child called It and its sequel has students who have never read a book before finishing their second book. Whatever it takes to get them reading, and this book is excatly what it takes. I highly recommend this book to all teacher of middle and high school level. It is a must for your class library.

Summary: The Abused "It"
Review: A Child Called "It" is a great book. I liked A Child Called "It" because it tells what Dave Pelzer went through. Dave Pelzer was abused and tortured in the 1970's in San Francisco,California. Dave was abused from the age of 3 to the age of 12. Dave had one abusing mom name Catherine, a dad that didn't really care, and three brothers that laughed at him. Dave's mom called him "It" and didn't include in the family. Dave was forced to eat poop out of his little brother's diaper, eat his own vomit, drink ammonia, take a bath in very cold water, keep his head under water, his mom stabbed him then put a towel on it and told him to do the dishes, his mom smashed his head into a mirror, and punched him across the head. I think that everybody should read the way Dave lived his abusing life.

Summary: A Child Called It
Review: A Child Called It was such a good book. Once I started reading this book Couldnt put it down! It tells you so much about his life, and it makes you want to cry for him when he didn't have the courage to do it himself. This book deserves a 5 star rating. When things got worse for him you would hold your breathe and hope that they would soon get better.

Summary: A Child Called It
Review: A Child Called It is an excellent book about Dave Pelzer's childhood which started out pretty normal. Then his mother devlopes a drinking problem and starts to beat him and does horrible things to him such as not feeding him or allowing him to eat for weeks. The little bit of food he got he stole it out of the trash when no one was looking so he didn't get one of his mothers treatments.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about people who survived in order to stay alive.

Summary: An amazing book.
Review: This book is absolutely the best book I have ever read. It is so graphic in the way it tells you what happens. It's truly a real-life survival story. It is about a young man named David who has a very abusive mother. She makes him go for days without giving him something to eat and makes him sleep in the basement without so much as a blanket. This is a very inspiring story and I would encourage you to read it along with the other books by Dave Pelzer including "The Lost Boy" and "A Man Named Dave".

Review: This book is about a childs struggle to survive. His mother beats him because hes a "bad boy" but really hes just a boy wanting his mothers love. This is a sad and tuching story. As I read this book I wondered how he survived and if I could have been that smart if it happened to me.This book taught me not to take anything for granted.I recomed "The Lost Boy" and "A Man Named Dave.

Review: I liked this story because it was about something. This story has made me think a lot about child abuse and what it does to children. "A Child Called It" is a true story. In the beginning of the story, Dave Pelzer explained his mother as caring and loving. But soon things began to change. David was in first grade when the abuse began. In his family, David was the only one that received punishment. He was forced to eat his own vomit. When his father tried to help David, his mother did not allow it. A substitude teacher and a few teachers together saved this little boy.

Summary: Direct & to the Point...
Review: This isn't exactly a top-notch literary piece but it is definitely direct & 'to the point'. My sister in law,..who is a loving parent of 4 children recommended the book(s). It's a very EASY READ--but a sad one. I read it in one night. I had to finish it because I wanted it to end. The child abuse from a childs point of view was just too much to take. It makes most people realize how good we've had it. What a shame this child had to endure this pain. I think people will learn from this book and see things differently about how children are OUR FUTURE. The only good part is that the author survived this and came out brilliant! I just shudder at the thought of the children that have not been as fortunate. I'm sure I'll read the two follow-up books to this one just to see what happens next.
