Less clutter=less stress.
Rating: Summary: Help my kids room is driving us both crazy! Review: Ms. Morgenstern is writing to all of us who want to be organized, but couldn't seem to manage it. Her approach is very effective. For once, there is a clearly defined goal for spending the time getting it together once and for all. She provides the reason why as well as tips to get you there. I feel like I have a new mind set. My husband and children are thrilled with the changes in our home. We can actually enjoy our space and get it "equalized", cleaned up, in a short time. My 6 year old was able to go through the steps with me and figure out how to organize her room to fit her needs and personality. It is wonderful! She is able to clean up without a fuss and can do it quickly. Her friends are able to see the system she is using and can easily help her.
Rating: Summary: Julie is a genius Review: I guess for some people this book seems like common sense, but I am the absent-minded professor type who can't find her car in the parking lot, so to me, Julie seems like a genius. The book definitely convinces you that you can do it, although when I went to organize my daughter's room I found it a struggle to first analyze (what gets used vs what is merely being stored) and then plan out the zones. However, I really need to do this for the whole house, because I can't even remember where I put things. At first I didn't like the idea of labeling, but then I realized it serves two purposes: 1. It helps you remember where things go 2. It communicates to the rest of the family where things go. One thing that seemed to be missing in this book was a discussion of organizing storage spaces. The emphasis is on activity spaces. So I decided to use a "Grocery store" model of organization, ie group like things together and label them.
Rating: Summary: Organize me, not just my stuff Review: I just moved to a new house and when I ran out of room to continue unpacking, my friend recommended this book. Being somewhat cheap, and the owner of way too many books, I checked it out at the library. I am so impressed with it that I am now buyiing it. I think the reason it works is that it doesn't start with my stuff, it starts with me. What's important to me, what are my goals, what do I want my space to look like when I'm finished, and what will work so I can keep up the system. Instead of feeling guilty because I didn't want to throw away that 10 year old National Geographic, it helped me to understand why they are important to me, and the difference between owning something and having it readily accessable. Yes, it ment I had to go out and buy some air tight containers to store them in the garage (which I see as an inbetween step, a place to store them until I'm ready to part with them, maybe by finding where I can donate or sell them) Ms Morganstern's book works because it doesn't consentrate on organizing my stuff as much as organizing me.
Rating: Summary: Fun and clear guide to organisation Review: Inspiring book - since I've read it, I have been reorganizing much of my home and home office. This book is clear and fun. I also naturally like to hunt for the best organizing containers. This book gave me a framework and a more thorough plan of action. Letting go of old stuff is so very freeing. I found that the most challenging part of the reorganization was to go through the old files in my office - but when I found myself slowing down and regretting some missed opportunities, I would remember the title and main directive of another book I read recently and keep on going. That book is "Working on Yourself doesn't work" (by Ariel & Shya Kane), and I found it very inspiring. I heartily recommend both books.
Rating: Summary: Helped to Change My Way of Thinking Review: This book is simply terrific. It helped me to organize my space to fit the way I am, instead of trying to become a different person. One idea that was very helpful was the simple question, "What's Working?" It helped me to realize that I WAS organized in some areas, and could build upon my successes. I bought this book first, but couldn't really implement the method until I bought Morgenstern's other book, "Time Management From the Inside Out." Although Morgenstern suggests that organizing space is easier than organizing time, I needed to get a grip on my time so I could make the time to organize my space! I'm sure that the positive reviews are truthful. For some of us, organizing time and space is akin to rocket science and we really don't "get it." We might have a missing gene, or ADD, or no left brain, or whatever. So what may have seemed elementary to some folks was a revalation to me.
Rating: Summary: Just another book Review: ...Most everything in this book requires purchase this or purchasethat. This book was written for people with money to burn. You dontneed to buy lots and lots of expensive storage items like this bookrecommends .Just check out some of the web sites like trash totreasures instead of buying this book. If you really want to organizeon a budget rather than spending a small fortune on things to orginizewith that end up as clutter when all is said and done. Use your brainand save your wallet. END
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: This book literally changed my life. I always considered myself an organized person, because I was always organizing something. One of the first AHA! moments I had was when Julie said when you are finished. I had never truly finished before. Her kindergarten model was my second AHA! moment. I had always organized parts of a room, never taking into account the whole room. I followed her plan to the letter, it took a little over six weeks to finish my whole house, but I have been organized for over six months now. An added benefit I lost over 5 lbs. from hauling the trash and yard sale junk out of my house. I am now working on the Time Management from the inside out. Thank you Julie for writing a truly inspiring book.
