Summary: an easy read and moving account
Review: I read this book about 6 years ago and I still remember much of it. After hearing the author tell of her near death experience on "Oprah," I thought I'd read the book to glean more insight. Eadie is a good writer and the reading is brisk and easy and the book itself is not very long.

While I believe the author truly believes the account of her NDE, I find some of it contrary to some underlying principals of the Bible ... and considering she makes several quotes from the Bible, it is relevant.

Regardless of my personal feelings concerning what did and didn't happen to the author, the book is very insightful regarding the needs of the human spirit.

Her story of being a lonely, mistreated girl on an Indian reservation was moving and heartbreaking. To see how people who could have had such an impact on a little child abused their role and treated her like human garbage because of her heritage made me cringe. Often times when we talk to children, we forget that they will one day be adults and most likely remember every instance of our encounter with them if it is either extremely harsh or extremely benevolent. It makes you think... do you want to be remembered in the thoughts of others, and if so, how?

Regardless of your take on the validity of her account, her descriptions are emotional and convincing and can really change the heart of the reader.

Summary: It will change your life!
Review: Several years ago a dear friend recommended this book to me but I never pursued it. A couple of years later I started dating my now husband and he had a copy of it. I picked it up one day but didn't read very far just not wanting to take the time I guess. Then yesterday something inspired me to get this book and read it..it was still right there on the shelf in our office with the book mark still in it from where I had started reading it years earlier. Only this time I could not put it down. This book has moved me like nothing else ever has. I am a Christian and I go to Church every Sunday and try to be a good person but I've always had this fear deep down inside me of dying...doubt, I suppose. Betty Eadie's book changed that for me. It filled my heart and spirit with so much joy, love, and (finally!) understanding. I don't know why I never finished reading it before. Everyone needs to read this book! It answered so many questions that I have been struggling with my entire life. I believe every single word of it. I can't imagine how anyone couldn't! Please read it!

Review: In telling her story, she came across as vulnerable and sincere. From the time I picked-up the book I couldn't put it down. I sobbed through the last two chapers because of her courage and the power of her story.

Summary: Death is not the end.
Review: I am grateful that Betty Eadie has shared her Near Death Experience with all of us. This book is wonderful documentation of her experience while being "dead." Actually, this book shows us that we do not, in fact, die. Read Betty's words and understand that our existence goes on and love is the only thing that ultimately matters.

Summary: Child's Death
Review: The book comforted not only me, but others, following the death of my 10 year old son. I did not question where he went after his death because I knew, this only confirmed it. I have also given copies of this book to parents whom I have talked with following the death of their child. It is a highly recommended book in our support group as well. Through Betty Eadie's experiences I have changed how I interact and view others. This has made me a more caring and compassionate individual.

Summary: Embraced By Love
Review: Embraced By the Light is one of the most beautiful books on NDE that I have ever read. Betty's amazing journey while she had "died" is truly extraordinary. After reading this book and the 2 books by Dannion Brinkley, I would have to say that I do not have a fear of dying! Dying is just the start of the next stage of one's life - not something to be feared. Our spirit lives on, and just sheds the physical body.

Our society thinks of death and speaking of death as "taboo". Yet Betty shows us that death is beautiful and loving. The love Betty experienced just overwhelms you and her love comes through this book to you. You cannot help but cry. There are many quotes in this book that you will definitely want to write down. This book will definitely change your life in someway and bring great comfort for those you have recently lost a loved one. Betty's life was forever changed because of this experience and her awareness and love of God shines through. It is amazing to me how many of us were raised to think of an angry, vengeful and hurting God, yet this is never seen by those who see God in the NDE. Again, Betty is her own worst judge as she reviews her life - not God or the light beings that she meets.

Melvin Morse, MD, another author/pioneer in the NDE field wrote a most inspiring introduction to the book. He describes this book as "a journey into the meaning of this life." He also states that this book teaches us "that our own individual lives are important and filled with meaning." Those returning back from NDE's bring back the simple and beautiful messages - "Love is supreme. . . Love must govern. . . We create our own surrounding by the thoughts we think . . . We are sent her to live life fully, to live it abundantly, to find joy in our own creations, to experience both failure and success, to use free will to expand and magnify our lives."

Once again, simple, timeless messages are brought back and those are of love, kindness, service and forgiveness. Nothing new, just presented in a different way, through a different messenger. As Betty says of the "clearly expressed Savior's message, Above all else, love one another."

I cannot recommend this book enough. I actually had to read it two times to make sure that I did not miss anything! It is glorious and the scenes that she paints when she is in the Garden, is remarkable. Passages of the book with stay with you, uplifting and encouraging you. You will think of this book during the day, as Betty's words slowly sink into your soul and ignite. This book can and will have transforming effects - it can't be helped!

Betty, even though it took you 19 years to share these experiences with the world - I for one am glad that you did and the difference you are making with others is astounding. I cannot wait to read your next two books! Thank you. Thank you.

Summary: This book will change your life!
Review: This is one of the most profound books that I have read concerning the issue of life after death. It is a very touching and realistic story of a woman who does die and go to heaven is and she comes back to earth to tell her story of the afterlife, what the Spritual world is like, and what the purpose of our lives as humans is all about. I read the whole book in 3 hours, and I couldn't put it down. It was an enlightening experience. If you have any questions about the book, please feel free to email me at kristink@bayou.uh.edu
