Rating: Summary: This book has changed my life forever! Review: This is a Must Read! I loved this book and have given copies and recommended it at every opportunity. It is a quick, easy read and believing that when I die I will be in heaven with Christ, I still held on to fear. Not any longer however. I have an incredible peace about my life and about my death. This book has 'cemented' my relationship with God and given me the ability to look at the bigger picture and be more loving and more forgiving. I followed up this book with the authors next 2 books and read them in order of publication.
Rating: Summary: Hope/Peacefulness Review: I lost my mother many years ago, and for a long time I couldn't get her out of my mind. After reading this book I found peace in my heart knowing that she was in a wonderful place. She continues to watch over me. Betty Eadie's experiences and vivid details were so inspiring it's hard to explain. At times I wish I could have been in her place. While there are still many questions about after life this book leaves you with less. Whether others think that it is all fictional, I believe that this life does exist after we have left this temporary life we're in now. Her return back to earth was HIS way of spreading his message to others.
Rating: Summary: Embraced by the Light Review: Embraced by the Light by Betty J. Eadie was a book that had changed my view on the world even to this day. Eadie explains a very detailed image of the afterlife. Everybody wonders at one point in their life what will happen to them when they die? This true story gives you the answers you have been looking for and it's just a matter of you believing whether this miracle happened or not. While undergoing a major surgery, she almost lost her life, but only she wishes she had. She explains that the world is only like a dark negative compared to the afterlife. After experiencing some time in heaven, she was told she had to go back to earth because she was needed. Within no time, she was helplessly lying in the cold hospital bed in deep pain. She loved her children very much, but she still chose heaven over them. For weeks after her return from the hospital, she cried day and night wanting to end her own life. About a year later, she ran into her doctor that performed her surgery. He admitted to her that he had lost her for a short time during the surgery, but she miraculously came back to life. Eadie's story is just a matter of you believing in your heart that this miracle happened and there is an afterlife.
Rating: Summary: A person that had their eyes re-opened Review: Embraced by the Light was one of the most inspiring spiritual books I've ever read. It helped me to understand that life doesn't start and end on earth - life only starts here. The journey taken by this young lady that experienced death was truly amazing and overwhelming. This book will give you a whole new understanding about what life really means. I highly recommend it to the sick and to any one that needs a serious uplift in their life.
Rating: Summary: Helps with death issues Review: This book helped me greatly in dealing with the death of my mother. It gave me a different concept of the afterlife. I was also greatly helped by the book An Encounter With a Prophet. I would recommend reading both books if you are dealing with such issues
Rating: Summary: Hope Review: Embraced By The Light taught me to look at things and people different than I have in the past. The book helped me to understand alot of things I have questioned and believed but never understood. After reading, Embraced By The Light, I have a new hope and it confirmed that we are here for a purpose. We are here to love each other and to serve a purpose greater than our understanding. It is a great book for anyone to read.
Rating: Summary: There may be a kernel of truth in this book... Review: but it is obviously heavily embellished. I agree with another reviewer -- it reads a bit too much like a novel. The first couple of chapters (before she even gets to the death experience) really soured me on the whole book. She describes in extreme detail events that happened over 20 years before, in such a melodramatic fashion that it casts doubts on the credibility of the very powerful, beautiful account of her supposed NDE. I read this book in one night soon after experiencing a devastating loss. I would really like to believe that this is a truthful account of a NDE. But something about it just doesn't ring true.... Having said that, it is a quick, enjoyable read -- great for a rainy afternoon, perhaps, but not something one should base their entire belief system upon!
Rating: Summary: Strikes me as largely fictionalized. Review: In a way, I'm sorry to trounce a book that so many have found helpful. But I think that a dissenting opinion may be more helpful than hurtful. I have had my own encounter with the spirit realm, and in my eagerness to explore what others have experienced I have found helpful books from James Van Praagh and Michael Newton. There is also a Usenet newsgroup, alt.consciousness.near-death-exp, where one can meet and talk with people who have had NDEs themselves. For the most part, Betty Eadie's book strikes me as largely fictionalized. There are elements in it that ring true, and I hope those are what are changing people's lives. Many of these truths are partially or completely hidden by accounts and rationalizations that gave me the impression that this book is a tract meant to pull wayward NewAgers into a particular religion (many have mentioned Mormonism in this context; from what little I know of Mormonism, it appears they may be correct). One of the major, telling flaws is the effect (or lack thereof) that Ms Eadie's experience has on her. She says that she experiences the total, unconditional love that exists for all of us, and she says that she is told by Jesus himself that she has a mission to accomplish on Earth. Yet, when it is time for her NDE to end, she throws a temper tantrum like a spoiled child. And, after her physical recovery she becomes fearful, agoraphobic, loathing life and praying for death. This simply does not make any sense for a person who has had her consciousness exposed to unconditional love and been given a sense of purpose. The other telling flaw is the way Ms. Eadie contradicts herself repeatedly, sometimes managing to say one thing and then contradict it on the very same page, such as when she mentions abortions. The contradictions reach a peak in her repeated references to Satan. First she says that Eve did not fall to temptation, but made a conscious decision to bring about conditions necessary for her spiritual progression. Two paragraphs later, she says that Satan will continue to use temptation just as he did in the Garden of Eden to destroy humanity. What do we have here, then? A necessary progression, or on-going destruction? She seems very fixated on Satan, which is an anomaly in my experience of NDE accounts. She is apparently unaware that she negates all her tales of Satan's power when she views her own "sins" as tools to aid her learning and progress. About three-quarters of the way through the book, Ms. Eadie states, "If we're kind, we'll have joy." It's much simpler than that, Ms. Eadie: Once we are aware of Love, we have joy. Kindness follows as a natural result.
Rating: Summary: Embraced by the light Review: This is a great book it gives hope to those who have none. I've read it many times because it's so nice to read.I gave a book report on it in highschool. My teacher liked it so much that he thought it would be good for me to give and oral book report for extra credit. You should read no matter what religion you are. It's a wonderful book!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Review: I am inspired to comment on this book... I do not normally read books concerning the afterlife. But I have to honestly say that this book has changed my outlook on life. This book tells why we are here, what God wants us to know, and why bad things happen to good people. I have recommended this book to everyone I know. I often use the words in this book as a guide in my life. To sum this book up in two words.... Life Changing! Best book I have ever read, and hard to beleive that I will ever read another book that will impress on me the way this one has.
