Summary: Animal rights arguments without the horror stories
Review: This is a terrific book for people who are interested in the topics of animal rights and experimenting on animals, but who don't wish to be assaulted with horror stories of animal abuse. (It seems that much of the animial rights movement feels that the only way to win new adherents to their cause is to treat people like children, appealing solely to one's emotions.)

The writers and editors of this book treat the reader with respect.

Before reading it, I was firmly entrenched in the "only humans have rights" camp. But after reading this book (which was a gift -- I would never have known of its existence otherwise), I find myself questioning my orginal inflexibleness on the subject. I wouldn't call myself a convert just yet, but I do have a much more open mind on the subject, and I'm thankful for that.

And, best of all, you needn't be a scientist or have an advanced degree to understand these essays.
