Summary: In Pursuit of Orcinus Orca
Review: For the millions of us who have sat in high rise offices, looked out the windows and day dreamed of owning a small water based business on an island in the clear air and water of the Pacific Northwest, this is our book. The author takes great pains to guide the reader through the sensitive relationships of his family to the new island life, the animals, the forests, the tourists and the wildlife issues that protect the Orcas. This is a true arm chair escape of the highest caliber.

Summary: Great Read - Thanks!
Review: Thanks to the author Patrick Pillsbury for providing an easily accessible escape hatch from the ever growing Southern California noise and crowds. Absent a rare vacation, a well-written book about a real life ocean adventure is a good antidote to the local summer chaos. A Sea Less Travelled.. not only fits the bill for a good boating story, but also provides an excellent perspective on the San Juan Islands and the interplay between its delicate environment and the local whale watching industry. This book also helps to answer the question most who live in an densely populated area must ask on a regular basis: "Is there another way for me and my family to live?"

Summary: A Vivid Read
Review: This book really has two themes. One is the author's reflections on his life/desires as he moves his family to the San Juan Islands in Northwest Washington to operate a charter boat business, and the other a vivid description of the geography, wildlife, marine life, and history of the Islands themselves. Both of these themes are interesting to a reader, but the second tends to ignite a spark of interest and a yearning to physically experience the places described in the book. Whether it is the author's art of describing the Islands through his own experiences, or the fact that this truly is one of the most interesting and beautiful places in the United States, that draws you in is not clear. Either way, it is a vivid and interesting read for both those that have never been to the Islands and those (such as myself) that take them for granted too much of the time.
