Rating: Summary: This was book was not helpful at all. Review: I was looking for a book that would help me learn skills I could use for the "outdoors". I felt this book should have been less of a social commentary and more of a "how to" book. It really did not demonstrate any "basic essentials" knowledge, as advertised.

Rating: Summary: Read This Book! Review: This is a splendid book, for any woman who loves the outdoors but has been intimidated by all the macho stereotypes, etc., or wants to try something new, whether hiking, paddling, snowshoeing... Its focus is on having fun and being comfortable with yourself as you are, not as media hype would have you think you should be. The message is that any woman can, all women probably should, get outside and play, and you don't have to be a superathlete or own every piece of fancy equipment out there to do so. Niemi's message is that as we all (like it or not) become more urban, the more we need to seek wildness, be comfortable with it -- and it's not scary or hard.
