Rating: Summary: Great control, but time consuming to program Review: I bought this control knowing the issues with the unit. I knew that the instructions were hard to follow, but I also knew that it was a great remote. Both of these are still true as I recieved the remote yesterday. I consider myself a technically savy person, but it took me roughly 2.5 hours to program. This is with other electronics to program as well. I had to program a Panasonic DVD, a Samsung TV, a sony CD player and a Sony Amp. The funny thing was is that the remote did not recognize the Sony amp. The good thing was that if you have the other remote, you can transmit the information to the AV-3000 like it was your true remote. This unit has learning capabilities. The LCD is factory condition to be turned off after 10 minutes, which is ridiculous. I set the LCD touch to turn off after 1 min. I also set the backlight to come on after any button is touched, because it can be quite difficult to see at night. I set the light to shut off after 10 sec which saves battery life. All in all it is a great remote after you set it up.
Rating: Summary: One Cool Remote Review: I bought this remote about a week ago and its one of the coolest things i bought in a while. Although it may look very comlex and impossible to set up, its really not too bad. After a few minutes getting familiar with it, it is very easy. It is a large remote ( doubt i will ever misplace it ) and for the money you'll spend on it you will not treat it like your other remotes... ( i dont think i'll be throwing this one around ). It If you have sony eq the remotes already programmed to go. If not its very easy to program, either by code or the "learn" feature where it learns off the original remote you have. I am glad i bought it. It is pricey and you can get other remotes for less, but if you have the money to spend and want a cool looking great working remote then get this one.
Rating: Summary: Poor Reliability Review: I bought this ten months ago. With very light use, the channel and volume buttons failed.I have now had three versions of this remote, and all failed within a year. I especially liked this version, but anything that consistently fails across models must not be trusted. I am not buying any more Sony.
Rating: Summary: Great but... Review: I chose this remote b/c I liked the touchscreen. It looked really cool and versatile. My issue with universal remotes in the past was there was never enough of the correct buttons, and I hated having to reprogram an existing button to perform a function other than what it was labeled as. So I bought the RM-AV3000, and I set it up to control all my components. This took about 45-60 minutes from the time I opened the box (yes, I do have non-Sony components). The manual is the thickest Sony manual I have ever seen, and it is a little confusing, but this certainly should not be a deterrent. So I've been using this remote for about a week now, and one thing gets in the way of me and bliss: it's way too big! Actually, it's way too wide. If you set it on a coffee table, you can control it comfortably with one hand, but if you're sitting back on the couch with the remote in one hand (it sits nicely in either hand), it is impossible to operate without using the other hand. Holding the remote in my right hand, I can easily reach the buttons from the middle of the remote to the right, I have to use my left hand to use the buttons on the left side. It's impossible to truly veg out on the couch if both hands need to be prepped for remote usage. If you're laying back, you need to bring the second arm forward to use the remote. If you're laying on your side, you need to bring your far arm over to use the remote. Either way, it's just uncomfortable. Sure you never have to reach for another remote or you can even control your lights with this remote, but you can't be comfortable in your own couch. It costs you nothing to be comfortable in a chair, sofa or couch, but you have pay $to be uncomfortable in one. So what do I think? This is a great remote, but look for a narrower one. It pains me, but that's what I'm going to do right after I return this one... believe me; it does make a difference.
Rating: Summary: I command thee Review: I don't know what I'd do without it. My equipment is made by all different manufacturers and the commander covered everything. Learning how to program was not difficult, but you will need to read a few pages. The display is very nice and the blue light is a nice gimmick, but it would be better if the buttons outside the screen area lit up as well. Pricy but impressive, functional too.
Rating: Summary: Difficult to use... Review: I had Marantz universal commander.I use it many years and I want to buy something more modern looking such as touch screen and I buy it.First it is very big as size.Btill the touch screen buttons are very difficult see and touch.Especially in the dark almost impossible to to find the proper button. And its heavy too. For the money I pay its a waste of your money.
Rating: Summary: What I've been seeking for years. Review: I have a fairly large entertainment system, with 9 remote controls (some control several devices). I've been juggling remotes for years and I've tried other universal remotes, but I finally picked up one of these last year. It's precisely what I was looking for. What makes it so useful are the macro functions. Switching from my cable box to my DVD player used to require about 30 seconds of fiddling with 3 different remotes; now it's a single button press. People around the house who had no idea how to operate the entertainment system can now switch back and forth between the components quickly and easily. Programming is difficult and there's a learning curve, maybe comparable to learning to use a Palm device for the first time. Once you master programming it, though, you'll find yourself doing things very quickly. There's no learning curve for using the device, and with the macro functions it will probably be easier to use than your existing remotes. A touchscreen is always a comprimise over regular buttons, but its innovative labelling system means that you will actually know what the buttons are doing instead of having to program functions to inappropriate keys, which is always the case with button-only universal remotes. I find I can still do the vast majority of things with the regular buttons on the bottom half, anyways. It is somewhat large and heavy, but much less space-consuming and awkward as having to keep 2 or 3 remotes nearby. It should be noted that there's an easy to use lock function on the remote which you can use to prevent yourself from accidentally triggering things by brushing the screen. The timer functions are also surprisingly useful; my bedroom remote components are also roomily accomodated on the remote, and I use the remote to operate my television as an alarm clock. It can also make taping things on different cable box or satellite channels when away a breeze. It's also worth noting that I have no Sony components at all and have had no problems. While the special "PowerOn" function doesn't work with non-Sony components, with a little experimentation you can program the remote to do essentially the same thing with most manufacturers' devices. All in all, it's delivered everything I ever wanted in a universal remote, and it's made life far easier. Unlike any other universal I've ever owned, I was able to take every other remote I have and throw them in a shoebox in the closet once I had it all programmed, and I haven't needed them since. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Great Product! Review: I have just purchased this product and I am very impressed. I was a little weary before I bought it. I thought it would be difficult to set up. It was very simple after getting used to the controls. At first, I was a little disappointed that when I programed my sony remote that it didn't have all the same buttons as my TV remote. After reading the instructions I found out that it could learn all the same buttons as my TV remote and so on with my other components (it was a very easy process). I could even rename the button if I needed to. I would really recommend this product, if you are willing to fork out the money.
Rating: Summary: Does what it's supposed to ... Review: I read thru all of the reviews before purchasing the remote. The bottom line is that the remote works flawlessly. Yeah, I suppose it's a little on the large size, but I can't imagine a remote that will do it all without being big (or without spending hundreds of $$$). The instruction manual isn't as bad as some have said. Most functions are easy enough to figure out; indeed, teaching the remote is fairly intuitive. The only gripe I have about the manual is that it doesn't clearly state that *all* of the preset buttons are configurable, but I was able to find everything I needed by just playing around with it and pushing various buttons. If you want a remote that does it all, buy it!
Rating: Summary: Great Remote Review: I received this remote for Christmas and wish I received it earlier. This remote replaces 5 remotes and adds simplicity to complex features. One of the features that is well worth the money is the ability to operate several components and functions with the touch of a button. My girlfriend found it very difficult to turn on the TV and watch a DVD with the surround sound but now all she has to do is insert the DVD and press one button. Programming your old remotes into this remote is relitavely easy. Another nice feature is the indi-glow type touchscreen. The most annoying thing is to turn on the light while you are watching a movie to find a button on the remote. The only downsides I had was that I had a Sony receiver/tuner that I had to manulally program even though it was a SOny product and the remote is kind of bulky. Another hint for those who do purchase it is not to use the power on feature for some components becasue when you do program it to do chain of functions it doesn't work properly.
