Summary: Learning styles applied in instructional design
Review: As far as I know, it is a book that has been appreciated by educators in the US since it was published. It was therefore really interesting to present it to trainers in the IT training business. This involved work with adult learners as well. Once the trainers had accepted that the book was written for eduactors in K-12, they realized that the principles/methods were applicable to their situation as well and after using the 4MAT principles for a while, they reported more "fun" classrooms AND better results.
The book is a follow up to her first book and has a more practical focus than "About Learning". The 4MAT cycle is based on variations in learning styles (ref D. Kolb)and differences in brain hemispheric preferences. All put together it adds up to a circular learning pattern that acknowledges diversity. The book is a guide towards achieveing this. It sums it all up in how to build 4MATed lesson plans, an eight step method. It is not an easy way out (which I belive no instructional design can be if you want respectable results), but the trainers sure got good results!!!!
