Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A *very* thorough look at other countries
Review: This book is exactly what the subtitle says: an intro to seven countries. It is not exactly a book on comparative politics, although that's the course where it would be used. It devotes about 70(!) pages to each of the countries. Given the standard size type and almost total lack of pictures or feature boxes, the reader gets a LOT of info. It can be difficult to trudge through but it's a good resource.

One thing that would make this book better (though substantially longer) is introductory chapters explaining the characteristics of the three major types of countries. For a text which does a far better job in that area, pick up Charles Hauss' book on Comparative Politics.
