Summary: Puts a face to the murdered and mangled.
Review: ............And that is deliverance of this volume. Whenever I'm in a used bookstore I always stop in the crime section to see if Kinder's book is present & accounted for, and the majority of the time it is. I encourage all to read this work. It is Kinder's finest hour in the face of grim business beyond comprehension. I will never read it again because what happened in that basement of the Hi-Fi cannot be reconciled in my mind.

I read recently that Courtney has passed away not too long ago.

Summary: Puts a face to the murdered and mangled.
Review: I actually live in Ogden, and this is a very big deal here. Everyone seems to know about it, or actually knows someone who was impacted by these events. This book does show a very, albeit grim, accurate account of what happened, and the afterlife of the crime. Although Cortney's life was horribly changed, he tried to make the best of it, as did his family, and beat the odds!

Summary: COMPELLIN... WONDERFUL... FANTASTIC...
Review: I can bet Victim is the best book I've ever read! Once I started it I couldn't put it down; really very compelling. What a fantastic piece of work Gary Kinder has done!! It's simply so unforgettable; I wasn't able to stop thinking about it after I finished it. It's worth readin; MUST read!

Summary: Finally, The Victim's Story is Told
Review: Most true crime books feature the life and times of the killer(s), with the victim portrayed as the unfortunate corpse in the first chapters. This book puts a human face on the victims.

Courtney's struggle and bravery are heartbreaking and inspiring. This book shows how a moment of senselss violence, which is usually given a brief amount of news coverage, actually has a ripple effect that lasts a lifetime. A must-read.

Summary: Fascinating
Review: Mr. Kinder presents an important reminder of crime's aftermath.

Summary: Heartbreaking
Review: One of the best true crime I've read. You feel as though you become a member of the family. If you are not in favor of the death penalty you probably will be after reading this book. I guarantee you will not be able to put it down. It brings out all of your emotions, good and bad. Must read!!

Summary: Should be required reading for law enforcement
Review: Regardless of your views on criminal punishment, this book should be on the bookshelf of everyone who works for the justice system. So many books tell us about the lives of the killers, thank god this one is different. When the headlines fade, so often we push crime victims out of our thoughts. This book clearly shows the story doesn't end with the last headline, that the victims live with the ripple effects for decades later of the crimes heaped upon them.
I won't pretend it is a work of priceless literature, but it does provide some priceless insights on how the victims of crimes were, and still are, under-represented and overlooked in the search for headlines. This work is both engaging and a fitting eulogy to the lives it portrays.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Disappointing Account of Horrific Crime
Review: This book focuses on the victim's family, the victim, and the criminals in that order. Unfortunately the family's accounts seem to be quoted verbatim without much analysis, the victim is shown only as reflected by the family, and there is no real discussion of the criminals' motivation. This material could have been the basis for a much better book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Finally - A Story Told from the Victim's View
Review: This should be required reading for these anti-death penalty zealots.
