Rating: Summary: Year of the Rat: How Bill Clinton Compromised U.S. Security Review: 1996 was Bill Clinton's re-election and the Chinese Year of the Rat. In this explosive book, Timperlake and Triplett deliver the detailed evidence that could bring down the Clinton presidency.
Rating: Summary: Questionable issues Review: Although "Year of the Rat" makes for an interesting read, its main points against the Clinton administration and its relationship with China fall flat. Most of the examples given that involve hefty donations by Chinese or Asian thugs such as James Riady and Ng Lapseng were more often than not returned to the donors after White House background checks on the contributors' character. It seems like Triplett and Timperlake are no more than disgruntled Republicans, jealous of Clinton's success. Yes, it is true all of the Asian characters in the spotlight are of questionable moral standing and the United States needs to toughen its clearance for top security information access. But the authors' piecing together photos of Clinton and Chinese thugs in social settings and their far- reaching connections between this man and this man are no more than yellow journalism. "The Year of the Rat" is an attention- grabber because the issues it presents are highly debatable and in many cases, there is no case.
Rating: Summary: Interesting and Disturbing Review: Before I review this book, I have to confess my belief that Bill Clinton is the most solidly corrupt person to ever hold the office of president, including crooks like Harding and Nixon. So, naturally I'm inclined to believe the worst about his sordid administration. That doesn't mean, however, that the book isn't true. There is certainly enough documented information here to warrant a full-scale investigation of Chinagate. Unfortunately, Attorney General Janet Reno, herself a likely crook, went out of her way to derail and even prevent such an investigation from happening. The very fact that Reno went to such lengths to protect the man who appointed her is a good indicator of how serious these charges may be. This book uncovers a whole web of shady deals involving a number of underhanded foreign agents, American businesses, and Clinton friends or administration officials. I won't go into all the details, but if this book is even 75% true, one almost has to conclude that Bill Clinton and Al Gore are guilty of either extreme carelessness or outright treason. This book is definitely not impressively well-written, but it will certainly capture the interests of angry Republicans (that's me) and open-minded Democrats. Besides, Timberlake and Triplett are investigators more than they are writers. Most extreme liberals and even many moderates who supported Clinton will dismiss this book as just another Lewinsky-like sabotage attempt on the part of "Clinton bashers" or "the vast right-wing conspiracy." And therein lies the problem with how most of this country views politics: we have become so excessively ideological that we no longer have the conviction to condemn corrupt politicians who we agree with on the issues. I'd like to think that, had I been alive at the time, I would have rooted for Nixon to be ousted from the presidency back in '73 and '74, even though I would have been a supporter of many of his policies. I'd also like to think that if Clinton were a conservative Republican with the same lack of ethics, I would still want him out of politics. As the authors of Year of the Rat tell us, Chinagate is a far worse and more politically damaging scandal than Lewinsky could have ever been. Though Clinton's corrupt handling of these issues may threaten the future security of our nation, the American (liberal) press was largely uninterested and this country's citizens were too busy watching Survivor or some other similar lowest common denominator fare to demand answers.
Rating: Summary: Forget High Crimes this is "Treason" Review: Every American owes it to themselves to read this book. Future generations will ask was Lewinsky more important than the " The Year of the Rat" One must come to the reality that the PRC thinks in terms of generations and decades not like we Americans who look at tomorrow as a future. Their clandestine work paid off in spades,China for years worked at inflitrating our system of Democracy,in the Universities, Press and Media Just look at their agents they sent from Asian nations who acted on their behalf. The book reads as a who's who in Corporate Asia. How about the Congressmen and women who we elect and so strongly support the China propaganda of open markets. Our leaders in Congress have sold out the American's in every trade policy for decades. No this is not a right wing review it is the truth Read this book before you regret not reading it. After spending trillions in defense of our nation since WWII the politicians sold out for pennies on the dollar. While Clinton professes that for the first time in years our children can go to bed knowing that their are no missles aimed at America He did forget to add that the USA's Loral and Hughes corporations made sure to make him a liar!
Rating: Summary: How did they do it? Review: How did Clinton and Gore manage to get away with this under our very noses? Clinton and Gore managed in 8 years to sell our best technology to a Communist country who not only is using it to their own advantage, they are selling it other terrorist countries as well! I am scared to imagine what would have happened to us if Al Gore had been elected President - and he is talking of running again! What I want to know is why this information never managed to get through to the mainstream public?
Rating: Summary: Are there no patriots in the Secret Service, the CIA, or FBI Review: I read the hard cover as a gift when it first came out. Now I've read it a second time. That's when the dry read starts jumping off the pages at you. It is well documented (must be true) and raises the following questions:
1.Why were the authors not dealt with by the Arkansas cops?
2.Is it the donuts and fringe benefits that prevent G-Men from taking extreme measures when confronted with imminent threat to U. S. survival?
3. How come the McArthur Foundation didn't track down the patriots at McDonnell-Douglas and give them major financial awards for their selflessness?
4. Are we just living in a great big global paradise for political elites where Chinese communist elite kids, children of Arab Sheaks and future fat cats of America go to prep schools in New England; and limited wars like the current one, along with North Korean goose steppers serve merely as props to keep the American masses off balance and paying taxes? Read this book twice and see if you don't come up with similar questions
Rating: Summary: a rat book Review: lots of sensationalism, unfunded accusations, paranoid and bias. no wonder it's only worth a few cents.
Rating: Summary: The Eight Year Reign of the Rodents Review: This is an aptly named offering, copyright in 1998, which chronicles the Clinton-Gore administration's sellout of America's security to hostile China for campaign cash: power at any price.Since the book's publication, an alarming number of invasive security breaches have been discovered, which highlight the truth of the authors' message: There have been "any number of Chinese arms dealers, spies, narcotics traffickers, gangsters, pimps, accomplices to mass murder, communist agents, all associated in one way or another with the White House and money...." Among the chapter rubrics one will find: The Faustian Bargain, Lippo and the Riadys, John Wang the Magician, Charlie Trie, Penetrating the System, Appeasement at Any Cost, plus several others. Yes, folks, the gang is all here. The authors point out that both Bill Clinton and Al Gore were "targeted early in their careers to help Communist China gain access to the American political system." Now that the eight year "reign of the rodents" in Washington, D.C. has ended, perhaps we can get to the truth and make an honest assessment of the damage that has been done. This book can certainly guide us toward that goal.
Rating: Summary: Important but out dated, thus 3 stars not 5 Review: Timperlake and Triplett tell us clearly and conclusively why Bill Clinton is absolutely guilty of treason. Forget the myriad of other "gates", this is the mother of all scandals: treason by the President of the United States. To find out that Clinton and his minions are responsible for possibly endangering the very existence of this nation by allowing security secrets to be given and sold to communist China is beyond belief. If someone proposed this as a Hollywood script, he would be laughed out of town. But once again with this administration, truth is stranger than fiction. Just as complicit are the mainstream media and Democratic leaders who have helped cover-up, obstruct, and spin this story so as to absolve the Clinton administration from blame.
