Rating: Summary: I have returned this piece of Garbage!! Review: DO NO WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!! This is a totally biased book from a Canadian mercenary working for group of discredited army thugs. This book is not only poorly written, but has missing pages, countless spelling errors, and gross lies. The author displays a blatant disrespect of (if not outright racism) of Haitians. His hand-me-down history lessons are not even fit for 3rd graders. Some of his comments, if properly analyzed, should be viewed as offensive and racist. Unfortunately, I see some Haitian brothers and sisters give credence to the insults the author dumps on all of us. He tells us that Haitians do not plan, do not think, and can't govern themselves! And my brothers and sisters applaud...I am not an Aristide supporter, but this man wants us to believe that every incident, murder, or assassination that have occurred between 1986 and 1995 have been ordered by Aristide. And of course he also wants us to believe that the Army has never committed any crime! They are a bunch of Angels pitted against the great EVIL Aristide! They have never been involved in the Drug trade! He wants us to believe Michel Francois was not a drug dealer, even though he has been indicted by a US court on drug charges! And Toto Constant was not a dirty, CIA paid, drug-dealing thug! And my brothers and sisters applaud... This is not a book. It's a collection of insults, lies, distortions, simple-minded conclusions written by one of limited knowledge and quite ignorant of the country's history. Do we need these types of people giving us history lessons? AGAIN, DO NO WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!!
Rating: Summary: ARISTIDE THEFT OF MILLIONS CONFIRMED!!! Review: Just as Lynn Garrison predicted in VOODOO POLITICS, Aristide's massive theft has finally been exposed. Authorities have unearthed a number of accounts; ...millions in Tunisia: Account opened by Aristide brother-in-law Raymond Truillot...millions in Tunisia: Account opened by Leslie Delatour, the late American favourite who headed Haiti's banking system...millions in Panama: Accounts opened by Antoine Simon and Gladys Lauture. This adds up to...million[s of]dollars with an indication that there is another bigger Aristide account, yet to be revealed, plus others in the names of several Aristide supporters such as Leslie Voltaire.... Not bad for a priest who gave up his vows of poverty in October of 1990. Will the Amerrican government insist these millions be returned to Haiti??!! You must read VOODOO POLITICS for the real truth. It is a show stopper!!!!
Rating: Summary: LYNN GARRISON REVEALS THE TRUTH Review: LYNN GARRISON has been closely involved with Haiti since 1979 and was personal advisor to General Raoul Cedras from September of 1991 through October of 1994. He was a major strategist in the battle to block the return of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, an anti-American murderer deeply involved with the cocaine traffic. He supplied the medical dossier which became a foundation for a CIA generated psychological profile of the psychotic manic-depressive president. His September 18, 1994 eavesdropping on the Carter/Nunn/Powell team's phone conversations with the Oval Office was instrumental in derailing the Clinton sponsored invasion of Haiti... saving thousands of live... VOODOO POLITICS is the most important Haitian book of this generation.
Rating: Summary: Very thorough, biased, and badly edited Review: Lynn Garrison is passionate about Haiti and that passion comes through strongly in his book. It is too bad that he could not find an editor that was equally passionate about keeping the book readable. The author has excellent insights into what happened in Haiti and stitches together a very accurate picture of what the military did during the embargo years. I lived in Haiti for most of that period and what the story he tells matches what I saw and heard. Unfortunately, he also mixes in a lot of rumors and stories that he has heard and he frequently lets his emotions run wild-putting a picture of a burnt corpse on the back cover is revolting. The book is also has a number of typographical errors and the author frequently repeats stories. If Mr. Garrison could find an editor to tone down some of this accusations, remove the repetitions and mistakes, and check his sources this would be an excellent, main-stream review of what happened in Haiti.
Rating: Summary: VOODOO POLITICS REVISITED Review: The Clinton-inspired Aristide Democracy is best described by the following opening paragraph to a July 26, 2001 Wall Street Journal piece on Aristide's Haiti, written by Mary O'Grady, entitled "Haiti's Aristide Says, Show Me the Money.". "Imagine a place so dominated by violence that even those revered icons of the underworld, Colombia's cocaine kingpins, have begun to abandon it on the grounds that it is too lawless. A senior U.S. official charged with high-level drug interdiction responsibilities in the Caribbean tells me this is exactly what intelligence networks say has happened in Haiti. Under the leadership of President Jean Bertrand Aristide, who has controlled the country since 1994, Haiti has become an inferno of terror that even hardened Colombian crime rings can't abide." ...belief that Aristide's Haiti is a safe and stable place when chaos reigns, the ecology is destroyed, schools don't function, business has abandoned the nation and members of Aristide's government are barred from American Airlines flights, as of January 1, 2002, because their visas have been cancelled because of Aristide's murderous efforts to murder opposition politicians and journalists. Even as I write this some 25 journalists are in foreign embassies seeking political asylum Lynn Garrison's VOODOO POLITICS predicted the present scenario with frightening accuracy - more than one year ago. The following weeks....months will reveal the truth about Aristide and these truths will prove the validity of Garrison's devastating revelations. The fact that Joseph P. Kennedy 11 is in a partnership with Aristide cannot be denied. The fact that Clinton's brother-in-law is in business with Aristide cannot be denied. The fact that Aristide is worth one billion dollars and controls Haiti's cocaine traffic cannot be denied. These revelations, and other are presented in VOODOO POLITICS.... It is time to indict Aristide, a'la Noriega - for his cocaine traffic into the United States.
Rating: Summary: Weeping for the dictators Review: The review that follows my comments has been written by someone who is either totally disconnected from reality or has not, in fact, read VOODOO POLITICS. The book is exceptionally well written by a person who knows more about Haiti than most Haitians. I learned much from Garrison's observations, observations made from a viewpoint denied to all but a few. Garrison's situation was truly unique in that he was accepted into the upper levels of Haiti's military, and civilian government, to act as an important strategic advisor during the 3 year crisis. Most Haitians believe his efforts were responsible for Aristide's three year holiday in Washington. During the present crisis that sees Aristide attempting to grab complete dictatorial control of Haiti opposition parties consult Lynn Garrison on possible strategies. There are no hand-me-down history lessons in VOODOO POLITICS. VOODOO POLITICS is an important history lesson that will stand the rigors of time. Its revelations are stunning. Lynn Garrison's chapters are balanced. There is enough blame for everyone in its 582 pages as he deal critically with the series of disasters that have delivered Haiti to its present crisis in which Aristide - controller of the cocaine traffic - is given control of my poor homeland. I didn't find any indication that Garrison believes the Haitian military was completely blameless or that Aristide's supporters are guilty of all crimes. Mind you - there is enough proof that Aristide controls 20 percent of America's cocaine consumption. Why then has the Bush administration followed meekly in the footsteps of Bill Clinton. There is nothing racist in this book. Two pages were reversed by the printer. BIG DEAL!! The final chapter offers a blueprint for Haiti's future, a clear and concise outline that includes reforestation, a satellite school system, medical clinics, low-cost housing, revived agriculture, a new tourist industry and a program to attract an assembly industry lost to OAS intervention. This exact program has been adopted by a major non political movement to save the nation - RENAISSANCE. At some stage a retrospective look at VOODOO POLITICS will place it as the most important Haitian book of this generation. VOODOO POLITICS is an exciting book that reads like a novel. Take a look at www.voodoopolitics com for a couple of sample chapters.
Rating: Summary: Lies... the author advised torture tactics against Haitians. Review: This book is part of the continuous disinformation campaign being waged on Haiti and the popularly elected president Aristide. The author of the book was a personal advisor of the murderous thug Cédras, shouldn't that tell you something. Raoul Cédras's horrific regime toppled a lawfully elected president and killed more than 5 thousands people and this guy has the nerve to write a book praising the State Department and CIA dirty deeds!? Don't buy this book. It is nothing but sick propaganda against an innocent Haitian people being preyed upon. For a more accurate account of events depicting the courage of haitians both abroad and local to re-patriate their president, read: Haiti : Dangerous Crossroads by Deidre McFadyen etc.
Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: This is the most truthful book about Haiti in the early nineties, extremely well documented and very pertinent, although porrly written and edited
Rating: Summary: VOODOO POLITICS REVISITED Review: Three years have passed since I purchased Voodoo Politics. Over the intervening period, I have re-read this book and used portions in my writing on Haiti. Unfortunately, we do not learn from the past. Lynn Garrison's book stands as the best analysis, and reporting from the embargo period, backed with a great deal of historical deatil that helps make some sense out of a truly senseless disaster. In it effort to inflict democracy upon a poor nation, America has destroyed it. If an honest effort was initiated, to guarantee free-and-fair elections, the American government would be stunned at the possible outcome. Even at this late date, Jean-Claude Duvalier maintains a high degree of popularity among Haiti's 9,000,000 peasants. Of course the American establishment would never allow such an election to take place. Free-and-fair elections can be held if the choice is limited to candidates acceptable to Washington. To heck with what the people desire. WHAT"S GOOD FOR BULLMOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY!!! Cocaine now rules Haiti, as predicted by Garrison. Aristide has destroyed the only element of law and order - The Forces Armees d'Haiti - Haiti's military, replacing it by an Aristide-controlled police force, heavily involved with the drug trade. America could bring Aristide to justice, for his control of the drug trade, but too many people would be embarassed, and too much money is involved. All of this was predicted by Lynn Garrison in 2000. Thousands of children have fallen to starvation in America's ill-advised return of Jean-Bertrand Aristide to power on the bayonets of 23,000 American soldiers. The book is even better, after three years.
Rating: Summary: Aristide Reviled at Summit of the Americas - April 2001 Review: VOODOO POLITICS has proved to be the most important book for Haitians, since the departure of Jean Claude Duvalier in 1986. At that time Liberation Theology had appeared on the scene, a mixture of communism dressed in cleric's robes. Aristide took control of this movement and re-named it Lavalas for the 1990 presidential elections. Via his control of the Electoral Council, Aristide stole these elections, a theft validated by the International Community as they lauded him as overwhelmingly popular amongst Haiti's peasants. This is utter garbage. If the peasant was given a choice - DEMOCRACY, YES or NO there would be an overwhelming NO vote. As VOODOO POLITICS so aptly puts it - Democracy has no calories. VOODOO POLITICS traces Aristide path to the present moment. Published last October, Garrison accurately predicted what would happen in the November 26 presidential elections and beyond. Aristide has loaded every elective office, from garbage collector to the Parliament with his supporters. The police department is completely Aristide. He has fired all police trained by the American-sponsored academy. Security at Haiti's ports is now controlled by Ronald Cadavre, an Aristide hit-man. Aristide stole the presidential elections with less than 2 percent voting. There was some outrage over this, however, it is worth one's life to criticise Aristide. Many have paid the price. However, CONVERGENCE - a gathering of socialist political groups (ex-Lavalas) made an appearance of opposing Aristide. Headed by Gerard Gourgue - who freed all drug dealers from jail in 1986 - $2.5 millions (Pages 52, 56 VOODOO POLITICS) - started another profitable game. Aristide paid key members of CONVERGENCE to make opposition noises, while blocking efforts of real opponents such as Deronceray and Manigat. Now, on April 27, 2001, CONVERGENGE is effectively dead. Aristide's close friend and partner in the cocaine business, Elie Robert, was arrested by Canadian authorities immediately before the Summit. He was in possession of a substantial stash of cocaine. One of Aristide's associates, Serge Jean-Baptise, who travelled to the Summit with Aristide, is wanted by the DEA in Miami. They discovered a stash of cocaine in his storage facility immediately after the Summit closed. Aristide was a pariah at the Summit, hardly tolerated by the other Heads-of-State. In spite of this Aristide returned to Haiti where he declared the Canadian venture an absolute victory. Now the UN/OAS/Bush Administration expects him to compromise with Haiti's opposition. The bird-brains from the OAS will now send a mission to Haiti for negotiations. They will file montly reports. Aristide will delay some more, until he has complete and total control. Aristide could be indicted in Miami - a la Noriega - for his control of 20 percent of the cocaine entering America. America's Senators and Congressmen will not take this action because of their fears. They fear Jessie Jackson and the Congressional Black Caucus' use of the "RACE CARD" if they indict a poor little black president of a poor little black country. This is a truly bizarre situation. More people should read VOODOO POLITICS The Clinton Gore Destruction of Haiti. Then they should contact their elected representatives and demand immediate action. American children are dying because of Congress' refusal to do its duty!!! Aristide's cocaine is killing our kids. So long as Aristide remains in the game.... there can be no solution. If immediate action isn't taken he will be in power for the next 40 years!!!
