Rating: Summary: READ THE BOOK--Don't Rely on the Recent Movie Review: BOSS OF BOSSES is an extraordinarily well-written account of the development of the case against the head of the Gambino crime family, as told by the two former FBI agents who lived the case. The recent movie version, starring Chazz Palminteri, was well-made and interesting, but the film transformed the book's story into more of a biography of Mob boss Paul Castellano (even inserting some fictional elements). The original book, BOSS OF BOSSES was a much more in-depth, non-fiction telling of the cat-and-mouse investigation by the men who actually did the investigating! If you want to read the inside story of the investigation--with all its drama and twists and turns--READ THE BOOK! The original book was not a NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER for 15 weeks for nothing. The book has won many awards and has gone through several editions in hardcover and softcover.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ BOOK! Review: Excellent information about the greatest Capo de tutti Capi, Paul Castellano. After you read this book, you'll understand what LSN was until the death of their greatest Capo. Definitely recommended.
Rating: Summary: what a read Review: i feel like this is an honest look at a dishonest man that conducted business as a criminal with the intent of appearing as a businessman. a must read for Mafia junkies.
Rating: Summary: Almost perfect Review: I felt that Boss of Bosses was a great Mafia book. If you enjoy The Godfather then you'll love Boss of Bosses. I think my favorite part of the book was when the FBI had to plant a bug in Castallano's house. The tricky part was that Paul never left his house. One thing that was nice knowing, was that the authors were the actual detectives assinged to the case. This means it's true to life, no embelishing! One slow part in the book was the hours of tapes that were meaningless to the story that the FBI explianed. This is what kept me from giving the book five stars. I love hearing about mafia and this book was great for that. I knew I wasn't getting rumors I was getting the real scoop on things. I think everyone should read Boss of Bosses by Andris Kurins and Joseph O'Brien.
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: I found this book, very interesting. At the end you felt compassion for the enemy...How often does that happen in society today. Paul Castellano more a business man then a gangster...His weakness was a women. It was hard to put this book down, I read it everywere. I enjoyed the way it flowed, never missing a beat. I take from this book a lerning experience. You should read this book if you are interested in the Mafia, crime, or just plain other people. Read it, today.
Rating: Summary: ... has this been one of my best book's read... Review: Thanx to these two FBI agents, I have a pretty good idea now on how this agency works. I approve of the tactics used when it comes to bring to justice this organizations of crime. Joe and Kurins sure knows how to get your attention. Their book, based on a real story is addictive. What in the world were they doing chasing people instead of writing. If they worked like they write, they gotta be the best the FBI had to offer. They must keep writing. Not only was their book an encyclopedia on how the FBI does their work, but also on the sacrifice an agent has to put and go through to get their work done. Thanks to these 2 pro-writters, for sharing with the world what it takes to be the best in your class. KEEP WRITING GUYS, PLEASE...

Rating: Summary: Good Book Well Written Review: These books are best read along with one or two others on the subject. This is an entertaining book covering the Gambinos with fascinating behind the scenes descriptions. I still do not understand how the head of the Gambinos can die and have an estate valued at just a house - no matter how grand that house was. Other than a meat business and a house Castellano left almost no assets to his wife and daughter. But he did manage to stay out of jail. Maybe he left bags of cash?? It seems like he did not. I think the Genovese family had a better cut of the economy in Manhattan. Recommend highly if you like this sort of subject. Fills in a few gaps. Jack in Toronto
Rating: Summary: I would rate it 4 1/2 stars but I cannot Review: This is a really good book for someone who likes mob books. Its basically about the boss John Gotti took over for, Paul Castellano. He thought he was unlike other bosses and wanted to be known as a "white collar" businessman. But he wasn't. Its interesting to read how these 2 FBI agents broke in this guys secured mansion with crazy Dobermans running around and they finally nailed this guy but they would never really get a real chance to put him away. You know what happens if you know his fate but its interesting to read anyway. Also Paul carried on an affair with his young and ugly Columbian maid for some reason in the house with his wife present. He even goes as far as getting a penile implant to make her happy. In any event, its a good read. Paul Castellano did treat his underlings like crap so its no wonder what he got from them in the end. He was very selfish with the guys under him and always demanded more and more from them but they would always get less. Im suprised they all took as long as they did to get him.
Rating: Summary: In a word - Excellent! Review: This is just simply a very, very good book on the mafia. Page after page is interesting as well as entertaining. The chapters are short (generally 5 - 6 pages long) so it makes for a quick read. And of course, the story is just so fascinating. To hear the intimate and un-edited conversations of a real life Godfather and his henchmen is purely amazing. If you like to read books on the mafia, this book is a must.
