Summary: Radical Islam and Leftist Extremeists
Review:
Although the Communist System has proven itself to be a disastrous system in practice, the idealism that gave rise to that system is still alive and well, in the U.S. and around the world. In addition, this movement has allied itself with Islamic fanatics as both groups want to destroy Israel and America and the democratic, capitalist system. Dozens upon dozens of organizations have formed, organizations with innocent sounding names, to recruit members to help them achieve this agenda. These groups such as the Coalition for World Peace and The Coalition for Peace and Justice, have used Americans' natural good will and loving spirit to deceive them into supporting their agendas. Most of these new recruits are young, impressionable students, who are neither aware of the group's underlying agenda (which is to spread totalitarian Socialism throughout the world) or their roots in Communists organizations of the past. How the radical Left has rationalized their support for the Islamic Terrorists is astonishing and is just one compelling reason to read David Horowitz' book, Unholy Alliance.

Unholy Alliance documents, with historical records, the radical left movement in America and around the world since the end of the Second World War, but focuses primarily on the past 20 years. This is the most important book I have read in the last year and demands the attention of every American who believes in democracy and the capitalist system-a system that has provided more personal liberty and more prosperity to more people than any other system in the history of man. Democrats, in particular, must read this book to see how the radical left has hijacked their party and how they are working to undermine America in every way they can. Find out how they use the environmental movement, the peace movement and the anti-globalization movement to accomplish their goals. Please, I urge you, read Unholy Alliance!

Summary: Thumbs down !
Review: Unholy Alliance might be best described as being such a blatantly self contradictory embodiment of the Straw Man fallacy as to not be taken seriously, but indeed, it addresses some ultimately salient international issues and therefore such misinformed demagoguery as found in this book should be taken very seriously indeed, but not in the sense that the author would have intended. If anything, it should serve as an example of the kind of delusional thinking that can get a society and a nation into serious trouble regarding defense strategies driven by ideology as opposed to being driven by a less pre-determined and more logical approach.
If you consider yourself as being one who's inclined towards critical thinking with an interest in attempting some degree of objectivity, seeking build toward a foundation of unbiased information from which to draw in order to make sense of current US involvement in Iraq, then please do not waste any time on this book.
However, for those who enthusiastically supportive current US foreign policies on the basis of political or ideological loyalty and find that you are generally not compelled toward critical or skeptical analysis of current US foreign policy, then you might actually find this book emotionally satisfying. Of course it's fun to hear people espousing things you already believe. What's not so fun however, and even may represent serious challenge and work, is to take the skeptical approach and to examine all existing or imagined perspectives regarding a given subject.
Frankly, the situation with regard to US involvement in Iraq is far too serious for the kind of transparent anti-liberal apologetics Horowitz engages in here, but that's the genre: It's in the same category as monologues by other popular pundits (Molly Ivins, Anne Coulter, etc.) who's stock and trade involve political and cultural vitriol and histrionics, black and white over simplification, having little to do with intelligent or logical discourse or evaluation that might actually lead to viable solutions.

Summary: Those who don't understand History
Review: are bound to repeat it. This is must read for any American who believes in this nation's fundamental goodness. Disregard the negative reviews here. They are likely written by shills of the very left that Horowitz exposes, and whose arguments are reduced to "not understanding the complexity of what America does to bring about its own punishment."

Had these 'hate america firsters' actually read the book, they would understand the irony of not recognizing the not so subtle subversion of America in academia. As Horowitz wrote in another book in 1989, 30 years after Joe McCarthy's death, "McCarthyism" has been an ominous synonym for sinister authority and political repression . . . . Individuals and parties compete to brand each other with the scarlet M, using the term as the moral trump which automatically terminates arguments." Decades after McCarthy's death, the Venona transcripts and other unsealed Soviet records, have nothing other than simply validating McCarthy's mission (while perhaps withholding commentary on his over-enthusiasm.)

Make no mistake about it. The left is trying to "McCarthyize" Horowitz. FDR told Whitiker Chambers to "go f*ck yourself" over his allegations of Alger Hiss being a Soviet spy. Similarly, leftists today reduce Horowitz to other similar pithy exortations. Horowitz has connected the dots quite successfully between radical Islam and the radical Left, naming specific organizations and individuals, whose agendas are designed to overthrow America.

Horowitz *is* the canary in the mine the left is trying to kill. While the more things change, the more they remain the same. American communists of the 40s and 50s have exactly the same agenda as today's nihilistic academicians who advocate their "we are the world [citizens]' vision of a utopian world where Islamic terrorists will cease to exist. By reading this book, you'll more clearly understand their tactics as well as the fallicy of their world view.

Summary: what has "The Left" ever done for America?
Review: David has it just about right -- what has "The Radical Left" ever done for America?

"The Radical Left" is WORSE than useless, and the sooner their ideas are scooped up and forever shoveled (with the rest of the garbage) into the dustbin of history, the better off we'll all be. Why the morally & intellectually bankrupt ideals of "The Radical Left" limp on after decades of failure is anyone's guess. "The Radical Left" has aligned themselves with radical Islam because "The Radical Left" has nothing to offer: radical Islam, at least, is having some real world impact today against a set of shared, hated values. "The Radical Left" can only look on with envy -- something they've always excelled at. "The Radical Left" - we can really forget and ignore them, the most of cruel of punishments for a power hungry ideology.

However, a point and position I wish David would take is this: "The Radical Left" is WORSE than useless is most recently evident by the Kerry loss in November, i.e., "The moderate Left" lost DESPITE Bush's serious and alarming missteps in response to the radical Islamic threat, i.e., attacking Iraq. Kerry, either by accident of ideology or an honest accessment of the facts, came out on the right side on this single issue -- and he still lost! That's how bad it is on the Left: "The Right" dodged the bullet in no small part because "The Left," radical and moderate, can't aim (if they ever could).

We (& David) cannot ignore the dire warnings coming from some of the best counterintelligence experts in both the CIA and FBI, experts who have taken extraordinary steps to bring to light the misguided policy of attacking Iraq. These voices, the most reputable, are definately not comming out of the left wing: Many experts in the intelligence community have openly resigned in protest of the decision to attack Iraq, starting with Richard Clark, former counterterrorism czar for both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Clark's book documents other resignations.

There's also been a slew of other books from counterintelligence/terrorism experts ringing the alarms bells about Bush's policies in the Middle East. See: "Mission Not Accomplished: How George Bush Lost the War on Terrorism," by former FBI counterintelligence specialist William Turner and "Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror," by senior U.S. intelligence official Michael Scheuer, a widely recognized and acknowledged expert on al Qaeda and radical Islam. Finally, there's "Exiting Iraq: Why the U.S. Must End the Military Occupation and Renew the War against Al Qaeda," by Christopher Preble of the Cato Institute, a report from a convened task force of scholars and policy experts to examine U.S. strategic interests in Iraq and to question the Bush administration's intention to "stay as long as necessary." Today (1/15/2005) the Washington Post resported that the war in Iraq has created a new haven for the next generation of terrorist: according to a report released yesterday by the National Intelligence Council, the CIA director's think tank, Iraq has replaced Afghanistan as the training ground for the next generation of "professionalized" terrorists. Again, most -- if not all -- of these voices are 1) highly regarded experts in their fields and 2) about as far, ideologically, from "The Left" as you can get.

In the end, whether we win or lose, David's book really asks: what has "The Left" ever done for America? The resounding answer is (as it's always been) -- Nothing.

Summary: Unholy Jupiter, Batman!!
Review: Have we got trouble!! Before reading this book, I knew the US Left had a serious problem with the Right. I thought the problem was that their and our thinking was different. If this book is an example of the Right's thinking, our problem on the Left is indeed serious. I could find no evidence of actual thinking in this book!

Just a couple of examples: In the Introduction, Mr. Horowitz says in paragraph three, " Unlike the Vietnam War, which inpired similar opposition, and dragged on for years with mounting casualties and no result, the war in Iraq was triumphantly concluded within six weeks, with minimal loss of human life."
Had the book been written even toward the end of 2003, there might have been some excuse for this major inaccuracy. Having been written in 2004 however, the only explanations seem to be that the author is either in deep denial or that he is a mere propagandist for the current US administration.

In concluding paragraphs, the author quotes a professor at a major American university as saying, "if we are not truly internationalist in our outlook. . .then I do not think we can truly call ourselves people committed to peace and justice." From this the author concludes: "In other words, only by being disloyal to America can one be loyal to humanity".

I have faith that some intelligent people hold rightist views. I suggest to them that they get this book off the shelves of bookstores and libraries as quickly and as dicreetly as possible as it gives them all a bad name.

Summary: I loved this book
Review: I absolutely loved this book. After reading many books on communism inside the United States, beginning with "Witness", by Whittaker Chambers, I am finally understanding today's culture wars. Horowitz makes it especially clear that there is a brain trust within the United States that seeks nothing less than the total demise of our democratic, capitalist system of government. The overwhelming majority of those on the left mean well and truly want to help people. However, the organizers, propagandists and financiers of the left want absolute, unadulterated power. Rather than share power within a democratic system of Government, they wish to replace our free society with a statist, collectivist, totalitarian Government.

What is amazing to me is that they are more interested in destroying the U.S. than they are in building anything. They take it to the point of knowingly pushing Americans towards death, as in their insistence on banning ethnic profiling, although we know our enemies are young Arab men. Horowitz asserts, accurately, that intellectual leaders in Government, the media and academia are blaming America for her own suffering at the bloody hands of Islamic terrorists. In fact, two dozen terrorist groups, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Al-Queda, Hezbollah, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and other murderers are as vicious and determined as Nazis to kill Jews and citizens of any country, like the U.S. that dares to sympathize with Jews. He also points out the Marxist connection between Arafat, Khomeini, Hussein, et al, which fits right in with the Left's rabid hatred of anything having to do with religion. Even this website is inundated with nonsensical reviews demeaning any conservative-themed book. Horowitz is very clear and to dismiss his arguments out of hand is to close your eyes to the evil taking place even among your fellow citizens. These culture wars are the most important thing happening in the world today.

Summary: Peter Jennings Just Doesn't Get It-Radical Islam
Review: I started to reread Horowitz' book on the eve of the Iraqi elections and am so profoundly floored at how much of what David says in this book applies, even as the Iraqis came out in droves.

I was brought to tears though this morning as I heard Chrisian Amenpour quoting an 80 year old woman saying she was praying for a soldier as she left the polling place she was voting at. The Angst of the radical left, not the liberals, is what David Horowitz is saying allies itself with radical Islam in it's hatred for the USA. I am non-plussed as I read about the leftists who slam America no matter what we do.

He quotes Norman Mailer saying we caused the deaths of thousands in the Shi'ite areas of Iraq by not finishing the first war, then he condemns us for going in there. The first Iraq war, the UN did not want us in. So, with the left, no matter what we are wrong.

I was reading with interest another book, entitled the Subverters, written in the 70s. He mentions in there, the communist block supported the original terrorist movements of the late 60s and early 70s. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

When I look at the book, overall, I am impressed at how much the ultra left perspective and goal matches that of Radical Islam. Not Islam, Radical Islam.

What impresses me is what David writes about the Ayatollahs and others who have espoused ideologies similar to that of the left. When the Soviets went into Afganistan to take it over, the left said and did nothing while hundreds of thousands died. When the US goes in and averts a famine, they blame us for causing one.

What gets me the most is the rhetoric against America, by Americans, one very famous left wing writer going to Pakistan to incite Pakis to defy America's attempt at going in after 9-11. The only view these people believe in is the ultimate destruction of the United States. Horowitz does admit that one of those opposed to the US and patriotism actually hung out a flag after 9-11. But he too changed his mind, his stripes for a lack of a better term and basically sees red again.

This is a great book for those who still can discuss the right verses left ideologies and the like. The outcry of the left takes an issue and propounds it to the extreme. One way we can save the day and bring our nation back to an open dialog is to recognize when an idea or ideal or issue is outside the pale of reality and inside the scope of Marxist doctrine.

May clearer heads prevail as we work through the issues surrounding our current state in the war in the gulf and the potential for continued terror on a global basis.

Summary: Brilliant book
Review: Radical Islam and the American Left is a brilliant book.

This is required reading for every concerned American.

The book is kind to Islam, but points out many errors people make when thinking about Islam.

Many Muslims are good people, but far too many follow the radical Imams, which leads to the teach of tens of thousands of innocents.

Summary: None Dare Call It Stupidity: or,The Return of the Millerites
Review: The Millerites were a zany 19th-century American religious sect, followers of the farmer William Miller, who widely predicted the second coming of Christ on October 22nd of 1844. Many of his followers were so ecstatic that they sold their farms, quit their jobs, abandoned their families, and marched into the hills clad in Millerite robes.

Now it goes without saying that Christ did not reappear in 1844. So we have, in the Millerites, a very well-documented and well-known example of a group of people who have suffered the misfortune of seeing their faith exposed as a delusion.

Well, but: what did the Millerites do? Some of them abandoned their new guru, but a huge number did not: a number of followers continued to believe in the accuracy of Miller's date, or they worked at recalculation, in order to arrive at a new date.

Now, is this stupid, or what? How many people know that the surviving Millerites of the present moment constitute the religion known as the Seventh Day Adventists?

Now it happens all over again with the American radical left! One silly dream after another is dashed against the cruel rock of reality: Stalin signs a pact with Hitler (!), Khruschev reveals the monstrous crimes of Stalin, and finally the whole Communist horror collapses as a result of its internal contradictions (a fate supposedly the doom of "capitalism").

And what happens? Well, some of them abandon their faith, but others refuse to do so. Like the Millerites of yore, they cling with determination to A BELIEF WHICH IS KNOWN TO BE FALSE.

Amazing creatures, we "brainy primates" -- ain't we?

David Horowitz documents everything with his usual razor-sharp vision. How any American or European -- how any thinking human being, any "brainy primate" -- could rise to the defense of Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden ---- well, you need to understand religious fanatics before attempting to deal with that issue!

Highest possible recommendation!!!

Summary: THE TRUTH HURTS
Review: While it is easy for some liberals to ignore the connection between America's left and radical islam, those of us who easily can put two-and-two together know better. Mr. Horowitz is only saying out loud what most rational human beings through out the free world know. Read it and believe it.
