Rating: Summary: excellent, honest, NECESSARY book Review: I say this book is necessary because treating a woman's sexual condition by focusing on her body is like treating anorexia by focusing on the mouth. Of course it works technically but there is something deeper preventing it. (BTW --- I prefer the term "condition" to "dysfunction" because rarely is a sexual problem related to technical function.) This is a great book that touches on topics that not even many doctors know about. Vaginismus has an over 95% cure rate but many women who approach a doctor about it find themselves explaining what it is instead of getting answers for themselves. Goodwin's book presents the reader with many thought-provoking exercises, such as tracing one's knowledge of sexuality and from where they got that information; explanations of various sexual conditions; and treatment options. There is also a list of resources for readers.
Rating: Summary: Great Workbook!!! Review: This book was very helpful in overcoming my problem. You need to realize that it isn't a straight read but a workbook for you and your partner. It has WONDERFUL relaxation techniques,an anatomy chapter, a question and answer section, a dialator therapy section and specific sections on various disorders. I found it very helpful. I recommend this workbook to anyone who has a problem of this sort. I found myself overcoming this problem (that I had for 6 years) in a matter a weeks after starting the workbook. Great purchase!!!
Rating: Summary: summary to a woman's guide..... Review: This book works very well as a tool, i.e. a workbook with exercies that need to be preformed and reflected upon. I would have preferred more case stories; but overall this is a personal book that deals with intimate subjects. The authors do cover a wide range of topics, and attempt to give equal treatment to relationships beyond hetrosexual couples, which should be useful to some readers. I would have found it benefifcal to know in advance that this was designed as a workbook, so that proper time could have ben devoted to the book. Perhaps the title might be changed from a "guide" to a handbook or workbook. I would recommend this book, and ample time to the reader, for women who can benefit from assisatnce and advice in overcoming sexual fea and pan.
