Rating: Summary: I am not impressed with this book Review: As I went through the chapters of this training mannual for leaders of the New Warrior groups it reminded me of the behavior modification techniques used by human potential groups that surfaced in the sixties and seventies. In doing some additional research I found that the author and several other men one of them being Robert Bly co-founded the New Warrior Training Weekends attended a Sterling Institute seminar and admit they use some of the things they learned there along with Gesalt Therapy and UYO (Understanding Yourself and Others). Justin Sterling was a student of Werner Erhard of the EST Seminars. This book basically tells potential leaders every step in how to control the meeting and the New Warrior Training. It seems to me that the book is defining to men just what it means to be masculine and what to do to acomplish masculinity. At one point in this manual it tells men to talk from their ... as this being a sign of being a man. I have met with several men who have went through this book and the training outlined that have had some problems in relating to others after going through this. Some began to have troubles in their marriage. If men do not continue to attend the individual groups sessions most of what they learned goes away. This to me would not be something beneficial if the only way it works is to subject yourself to the constant re-enforcement the group. My last comment on this book is do not let others determine for you what the definitions of what it is to be masculine.
Rating: Summary: Must read for a man! Review: Bill Kauth is to the men's movement what Neil Armstrong was to a small patch of dirt in the Sea of Tranquilty. He set his foot down where no others had gone before. Wonderfully edited by a man who has walked the path of where the book leads. END

Rating: Summary: a great place to start, and to linger... Review: Bill Kauth, co-founder of the wonderful New Warrior Training Adventure, has written an excellent resource for Men's Work. The processes and context presented here far surpass in depth and healing power most of what I was taught in my master's (social work) program. Men's Work is, first and foremost, about owning our Gold and Shadows. I am grateful to Bill Kauth for his long years of effort toward this liberating goal. Anyone who thinks this stuff is too 'touchy-feely' or not worthy of a real man's attention has obviously never done these processes. They reveal our depths, and many men spend their lives trying to run away from the vistas within. Have some balls and take the risk.

Rating: Summary: This handbook works, I've used it in my own group Review: This is a great resource and starting point to gather your own circle of men. These processes and exercises have proven themselves in many groups that have started, using the ideas that Bill Kauth has gathered from years of experience. Your new group will be off and running with a solid foundation by using the wisdom in this book. Both practical and deep. Highly recommended.
