Rating: Summary: All shook up and feeling good! Review: This virtuoso book of exercises will appeal to professionals working in a wide range of children's services.
Some of the exercises could be suitable for populations with special needs or in special circumstances, and the resource needs are modest and the materials readily available. The choice and gradation of exercises are impressive. The author, Abigail Flesch Connors, has inherited her late Father's wonderful ability to give a vivid description in a few simple words (compare it with Dr. Rudolf Flesch's 'Why Johnny Can't Read').
Reading the book, I could not help wondering whether, with bereaved, traumatised or abused children who found verbal communication impossible, selected exercises might help establish communication with a trusted adult. For all groups of children, in the course of enjoying the Rocking Rythms, development of social and attentional skills should be promoted by this book, and within appropriately supervised and structured games the exercises might even promote wider development of a child's executive functions.
