Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A very good primer
Review: Although published in 1984, this book thoroughly covers many of the basic concepts involved in turbocharger application. Anybody desiring an understanding of how turbo systems work and the dynamics of their components should consider this book a necessary addition to their library

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great book if you want great boost
Review: Before I got this book I was pretty sure I knew what turborcharging was about. However, I now know that it's quite a bit more advanced than you would think. Some of the passages you will have to read twice. It's a very informative book. You will learn about water injection, intercooling, how to read compressor maps plus a lot of fairly advanced formulas. It really is a great book. But it does have a few years on it's back. It shows in passages like "...but with modern 3- and 4- speed manual transmissions..." and all the times where it is stated that a high boost for a street driven car would be 5-7 psi. Also it does have a few typo's. You should read the formulas at least a couple of time before using them in practice. Some of them have typo's. I do however still rate it five stars, and that's because I simply don't know a better book on the subject. If you are at all interested in turbocharging, you should definitely buy this book.

Summary: Turbochargers
Review: Buy this book for its in-depth teaching materials about the underlying math in sizing turbos and inlet tracts, etc. The balance is really only useful for carb applications. When used with the Bell book on turbos, one can pick enough from both to intelligently upgrade a current f.i. turbomotor; neither stands alone well.

Summary: Good book leaving a few deatails sketchy
Review: I purchased this book wanting to learn about Turbos. After I finished reading it I wish the book gave a little more info. How to control wastegates, turbo timers, and pop off valves. Also I little more info on converting a naturally aspirated engine to a Turbo would be a big help. Where boost guages should be located, vacuum lines be relocated, and a little more info on Fuel injection.

Summary: Dry, boring, and outdated
Review: If you bought an antique turbo and want to know everything about it, this is the book for you. If you have a newer car with a turbo, then pass this one over. It was a big disappointment. Why did I waste my money? Get Maximum Boost instead.

Summary: Well written and informative, but a bit dated!
Review: The author is well qualified to write on this subject. The book has many useful charts and photographs and the writing style is entertaining. Technical information abounds, but you do not have to be a techno-weenie to find this book useful and enjoyable. I have made several succesful installations based on the info. The book needs a revision though, as many turbocharger models in the book are obsolete, and some of the companies mentioned are extinct. It has sections on aircraft and marine installations, but the automotive and motorcycle installations shown are often not relevent in the nineties, except for the sake sake of nostalgia. Never-the-less, this is still the best book out there that I know of, and is worth the price.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Explicit detail which include realistic examples
Review: The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I thought it could have used a bit more detail / examples regarding carb'd turbo applications.

Formulas are well drawn out with easy to follow examples.

A lot of real life experiences are shared.

An update or additional series would be perfect (5 star material).

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: mediocre turbo book
Review: This book has little in depth technical discussion. The content is vague and too general for practical use. The best this book had to offer was a general understanding of turbochargers.
