Summary: Love the books....but very chopped up
Review: Since I know these stories backwards and forwards, the parts missing in the audio version are blaring gaps in a perfect story. Please don't let this be your introduction to Narnia, read the books first...you'll miss a lot!

Summary: Great for adults too!
Review: There is nothing better for children to read (or have read to them)... and even when no kids are about, this book is wonderful for us adults too!!!

Summary: Please give me MORE!!!!!!!
Review: When I was introduced, I am surprised that it is meant for children. I wish C. S. Lewis would write more of this story and get us all stuck in his books forever. I like the way he draws us all into his world of Narnia.

Summary: Magical.
Review: I read The Chronicles of Narnia when I was younger, but now that I'm older I appreciate the books even more. They are timeless classics. I am continually inspired by C.S. Lewis' tales.

Summary: Great series, but the ending didn't work
Review: I know that people are wondering how I could give only three stars (actually it would be closer to 3.5 if I were allowed), and if I were reviewing the separate books, five of the books would receive 5 stars each. It's the remaining two books that bring my rating down.

Let me point out that to anyone who hasn't read the series before, I suggest reading them in the following order: 2-3-4-5-6-1-7. I had not read the books before, and after reading some of the reviews here at Amazon, I debated long and hard if I should begin with #1 (The Magician's Nephew), or #2 (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). I opted for #1, but I realized how much more I would have enjoyed the rest had I started with #2 instead.

I loved #2 through #6. Each was a complete and separate story, building tension, and concluding satisfactorily. The tension was not as great as it could have been, but after all, he did write these stories for children. I loved the characters, both the humans an! ! d others. I loved the landscapes and visual scenery.

My problems with the series were with books #1 and #7. The Magician's Nephew seems to have been written specifically as a precursor to explain #7, and The Last Battle was too religious for my own personal taste. I know that Mr. Lewis was a deeply religious man, and in fact, those readers who wish to introduce their children to Christianity may want to consider the series as a topic of discussion (especially #1 and #7). However, this detracted from the pleasure I got from the rest of the series, and that is why I can only recommend five of the seven books.

Summary: Life Changing Stories
Review: Beside the Bible, The Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia are easily the most important books (and enjoyable) books you will ever read. As a child, I loved hearing them over and over. As an adult, I was supprised to see how much of my world-view comes from them. Like all great literature, Narnia grapples with broad ideas about human existence. The children, who are the protaganists of the series, grown-up problems such as disloyality, laziness, dishonesty and greed. The utter reality of life in Narnia is almost overpowering. I think it would be depressing but for Aslan. The Last Battle (the final book chronologically), made me cry tears of joy. You should definitely purchase a copy and read it to your children, grandchildren or anyone who will listen to them.

Summary: The Chronicles of Narnia are an exceptionally told story!
Review: Every book in the series is absolutely wonderful! A tale of a secret land that two children are sent into, and it is here that they uncover many further adventures for other fortunate children. If you ever had a fantasy/pretend place that you wanted to visit as a child, you will love these books. The allegory, and foreshadowing is very apparent to anyone that is well read. Mr. Lewis' books are a must for all generations, and lifestyles. They are not purely meant for only Christian readers; anyone that has a place in their heart for a story told in spiritual manner will love these book. The characters are loveable and unforgettable, as are the books. I recommend these books to everyone, and look forward to reading them to my "future" children.

Summary: What Great Books
Review: Even though I wasn't interested the first time I read the Chronicles of Narnia, I found them to be the best books I ever read when I reread them 5 years later. This book's dialect would be harder to understand for Americans because it is kind of in a British dialect, but you'll get the hang of it after the first book. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, was probably the foundation to the rest of the books, but I liked all of the books equally as much. I kind of don't know where The Horse and His Boy fits in with the other books, but still, I enjoyed that book very much. Maybe this happened because I read the books in the new order. Perhaps when I reread them later on, I should read them in the real order they were written. Even though this was designed to be a childen's book, when I read it when I was a child, I found no interest in it and I couldn't understand it either. This may be so because reading these books were demanded by my teacher, but when I read them when I was about 13 years old, for pleasure, I can practically swear by the lion's mane that these are the greatest books I have ever read.
