Summary: A Timeless Series of Stories
Review: When I was young I read this series and now that I'm "old" (42) I reread them with my eight year old. When he finished the last Harry Potter books I thought he'd never find something he'd like as much but these books were just as interesting for him. He LOVED all the books and now even a few months later he continues to make reference to them. My six year old, however, was bored and wanted more pictures so I guess she wasn't ready. I highly recommend these books for kids eight to eighty (although for the younger American set I would read them aloud first since the British english can be a bit confusing).

Summary: I love these books. I have something to say about the order
Review: I have noticed that the order of these books has caused quite a stir among Narnian fans. I personally perfer the books in the old order: "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" "Prince Caspian" "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" "The Silver Chair" "The Horse and his Boy" "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" I think reading them it that order makes it much more Letters to Children" that the chronological order was the way Lewis perfered them and it wasn't just to make the child happy as some people believe. He later confirmed at a lecture or something that he liked them that way better. So don't blame the publishers they thought they were doing the right thing. I still recomend reading them in the old order, but you can read them in whatever order you want.

These books were not written for Lewis's grandchildren as a earlier review stated he did not even have children when he wrote the books, he later married Joy Davidman who had two sons from a previous marrige. "The Horse and His Boy" is dedicated to them.

I also think it was a great idea to put all the books in one and with all the full illustrations in color. If you like these books I would also recommend reading any of the books by E. Nesbit or George MacDonald. They were some of Lewis's favorite authors as a child and you can see by reading their books how they influenced his work.

Summary: Vicky's view on the best book in the world!
Review: I think this book is the best book in the whole universe! Thisbook is full of suspence, tragedy and adventures. Four pre teenstravel into a strange new world kown as Nania. I think the best partis when the witch and her evil creatures meet the kids and battle untill blood is drawn. The author used good word choices, in each and every paragraph. When you read this book you will be able to actually see and feel the story. I think this book deserves more than 5 stars like over 1 million stars. From my book critique I hope you will read this book, and I guarantee it will blow you away!

Summary: Narnia in it's marvelous shine
Review: In this gathering of the Narnia books you will find the marvelous literature by C.S. Lewis in a very nice edition. Full of magic and emotions it is a must for fantasy readers and it helps to understand many of the fiction books of the last decades. A treasure full of values for children and magic visions for grown ups.

also recomended: StarDust - Neil Gaiman Harry Potter - J.K. Rowling

Summary: This set will give your child a magical world to explore!
Review: I was about 8 when my school teacher started reading the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Because I lived overseas at the time I knew what a wardrobe was and actually had one in my own bedroom. Unfortunately I never found the door into the world I so much wanted to really visit. The truth is I had to wait a few years to read the books for myself. To my horror - the teacher read right up to the part about getting through the wardrobe and then stopped because none of the other children wanted her to continue. Were they too young or was I just interested in a book beyond my years. Once I read the first book, I devoured the rest in short order. There are tales of magic books, sea adventures and someone naughty (a lesson) turns into a scary dragon. My favorite creature was the little mouse who walked out into the ocean. Was he ever seen again? To find out you have to read the books and I won't spoil the ending for you. All I can tell you is that when you start reading these books time won't stand still as it does when these children jump into a picture and start another adventure aboard the Dawn Treader. These books are nothing short of magical. You will remember them forever. I love ships and sailing and intend to learn more when I have time. Could I have gained my love of travel from these books. I believe it!

Summary: Before Harry Potter...
Review: While I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter series, it was the Chronicles of Narnia that led me into the wonderful world of fantasy and more importantly reading. These books a little more in-depth with descriptions than Harry Potter might bore small children during some intervals but overall still captivate their audience no matter what age. The excitement of a world that only children can be transported to that has witches, a lion who willingly sacrifices all for his love for others and the way each child must learn who they are, what their strenghts might be and to always be true to friends, beliefs and themselves really shines. It also teaches invaluable lessons about life at an early stage. I read them for the first time at 5-years-old and still love to read them now at 25!

Summary: The Chronicles of Narnia
Review: As a first grade teacher, I feel that the Chronicles of Narnia are a must read. I always read the books to my class each year. My students always beg me to read "just one more chapter." This collection would be a wonderful addition to family story time.

Summary: Abridged Audio Version cuts too much away!
Review: I have been a fan of the Narnia books for many years, and I had hoped to renew my pleasure in them through this audio version. To my great disappointment, the stories offered here are so brutally abridged as to have lost all their original appeal. They are reduced to the merest skeleton of the narrative, and all the delightful details have been ruthlessly cut away. "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," for example, includes only one of the many adventures recounted in the book! Don't waste your time or money on these: both would be much better spent in (re)visiting the unabridged originals!
