Rating: Summary: Children's fantasy before Harry Potter Review: I read this several times as I grew up, and loved every minute of it. While I'm not a practicing Christian, these books had more of an impact on my view of religion than anything I was taught in Church. (How sad that Harper Collins Publishers are thinking of removing much of the Christian Imagery in their attempt to capitalize on the success of Harry Potter. What censorship! If C.S. Lewis had intended to write a secular series of novels, he would have.) But this is a great series, and has had a profound impact around the world.
Rating: Summary: Multi-leveled blissful reading Review: I absolutely loved these books when I first read them in 4th grade. When I read them again in college, they brought me to tears as I suddenly saw the analogies I completely missed the first time around. These are wonderful, lyrical fantasies that are a delight to any lover of good tales, full of heart-rending truisms that very few people seem to understand anymore.
Rating: Summary: Always a classic Review: These books have always been to me a classic staple of the Fantasy Genre, they should be ranked with Tolkien as a must read for fantasy readers everywhere. Their links to the realworld make them perfect for younger readers to embrace the sword and sorcery type worlds And their parallels to christianity help establish fundamental morals of right and wrong to be applied into the real world. My only problem with this particular set is that they rearranged the order the books were to be read. The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe should always be the first read before opening the next 6. I was proud to share this series with my 10 year old daughter who absolutely loved The Lion... and I cannot wait for her to join Aslan, Prince Caspian, Puddleglum and the others of Narnia's fabled lands.
Rating: Summary: one of the best Review: i found the chronicles of narnia to be one of the best series i've ever read. i would suggest this book to anyone interested in enjoying a really fantastic story on many levels. as many other reviewers already stated, this is a great book for children as well as adults. you are never too old to expierience narnia!
Rating: Summary: 5 stars are really not enough!!! Review: If a simple children's book can explain the essence of a uniiversal religion, the Narnia Chronicles, does the job. If you're looking for something special to read your kids, this is it. But if you're looking for a simple fable with the meaning of life, this is it as well. Lewis will take you on a wonderful journey through the enchanted land of Narnia, with an exceptional tale about its past, present and future. Meet characters you are sure to fall in love with, and ofcourse, Aslan. Different religions depict God in different ways, all which somehow are contradictory to one another. With Aslan though, whether you're a Hindu like me, or a Muslim, or a Christian, it will somehow all make sense! If you think that a children's book could not possibly hold such a deep symbolic meaning, read it, just to try to prove me wrong. Oh yeah, do not read it in the way mentioned in the boxed set. Read it as Lewis intended you to, in the order they were written.
Rating: Summary: Many levels, many ages Review: As a hard-core SF/F fan since I was old enough to listen to Charlotte's Web, I discovered Narnia as a pre-teen, and have chosen to re-read the series at many different ages. Each time I read them, I find another level, or at least another thought pattern. These books should lead you to other C.S. Lewis writings, and I hope that putting him into a "Christian" category won't turn any one off. THIS IS NOT A "PREACHY" SERIES! Of course, I suppose if you wanted to see it that way, you could. For young readers, it's a wonderful fantasy tale. For older readers, you will find your own level of understanding. (Who IS Aslan???) and for adult readers, there are many levels and philosophies to joyfully and thoughtfully explore.
Rating: Summary: A series that no childhood should be without Review: I first entered Narnia in the fourth grade, when my teacher read us "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and set out immediately to purchase the complete set. Narnia is a truly magical world, rich with characters that you will fall in love with and stories you will never forget. When I read the last book, I cried, because I knew I could never return. The stories contain in the Chronicles of Narnia, are some of the most beautiful, enchanting books you will ever read. They are imaginative and take the reader on a trip of dreams and fancies that resemble something we all have at some point. Narnia first got me interested in fantasy and I cannot think of a better way to enter the world of make-believe.
Rating: Summary: The Magician's Nephew Review: This book was nice and entertaining. The Naria book was about the begining of Naria, and how it came to be. This book is rated 4 stars, compared to my favorite Naria book: The lion, the witch and the wardrobe. I thought the book was nice, so I rated it 4 stars. I would recomend htis book to anybody who just likes to read, which is not me!
Rating: Summary: 7 of the GREATEST books I've ever read Review: When I started reading of this magical world,Narnia.I had no idea that I would love Narnia so much, however now I do know that these books really did contain magic that C.S.Lewis lustered so incredibly well that I know I will be reading again because of the terrific characters, interesting tales, evil villans as well as the incedible lion,Aslan.Who made these seven terrific books even more astonishing then they already where.C.S.Lewis' writing craft was great..I hope you enjoy these seven novels as much as I did!!!
Rating: Summary: Loved Narnia - HATED ABRIDGED form on Audio Review: I have read the entire Narnia series twice, once while in Junior High, once later in High School. I loved them then, and I recently bought this audio book version for a long drive. What a mistake! The abridgement takes a story that was written on several levels and simplifies to only a child's level. I recall specific plot or character defining moments that were left out. I realize any abridged version will leave out details by very definition. However, this was done in the extreme. This reads more like Mother Goose now that the rich world the Lewis created for us. If you are introducing your children to Narnia, please get the books and read it to them. It will be a much richer experience!
