Summary: Onward and Inward
Review: As the line goes from the Last Battle. C.S. Lewis has layers of ideas hiding in what appears to be a simple child's story. This master theologin integrates a scheme of ideas that will reveal themselves to the most attentive reader, but it also is a collection of stories that can can appeal to the imaginitive mind as well. It proves, despite the muckraking of the harry potter scandal, that religion and fantasy can coexist, based solely on the reputation of Lewis, the religious scholar.

Summary: An incredible series
Review: The Chronicles of Narnia are among the best books I have ever read. The writing style keeps all ages intruiged. I learned to read, and to love to read, with the Chronicles of Narnia. They are funny and exciting, and each one keeps you on the edge of your chair.
They are about kids who go into another universe and have adventures there. They meet a Lion named Aslan, and fight evil witches and Tarkaans.
If I were you, I would start with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It's best read first.

Summary: The Complete Chronicles....
Review: This edition is a beautiful book. It is large, heavy, filled with with full-color illustrations on high quality glossy paper. It even has a built-in ribbon book-mark. This tome is well worth the list price.

The Chronicles of Narnia provide a path to opening the imagination and introducing 'chapter books' to young children, who may not be able to read it for themselves yet.

For those with a Christian back-ground, it is easy to recognize the symbolism contained in the story. However, the stories stand on their own as an imaginative portrayal of a fantasy world.

Summary: A wonderful fantasy read!
Review: I first read this series as a young child--I picked it up in the library and read them all straight through. While as an adult I've read the reviews about what a "Christian" series this is, as a child reading them without an adult's interpretation, there were no obvious parallels to the Bible/Christianity. So, if you have a fear of that--don't worry! Like most fantasy, however, there is a great force of GOOD, a great force of EVIL, and human characters caught up in the struggle between the two in a strange land full of fantastic creatures and magic. (Hmmmm, sounds a lot like the plot of the Lord of the Rings trilogy too!) I highly recommend this book to any child who is interested in fantasy, or any adult trying to get a child interested in reading.

Summary: It doesn't matter if you're not religious...
Review: I do not consider myself religious at all, and yet I have loved these books since I was a child. C.S. Lewis is a superb storyteller, and makes these books enjoyable for any lover of fantasy books. Not only this, but his books teach values that are good for any person, Christian or otherwise. His characters learn the value of acceptance, love, and honor among other things. I would recommend this book to anyone except those who dislike fantasy.

Summary: Love At First Chapter
Review: C.S. Lewis is an amazing writter! I have had this box set sitting on my bookcase for over 3 years, and i decided to take them down for the fist time in who knows how long... and i regret ever putting them away! i couldn't take my hands off them. Since i am a teenager and all, i would usually be playing video games or watching tv, but the first couple of pages captured my imagination and pulled me deep into a world of my own. I havn't sat down in front of the tv for more than an hour since i started the books! PARENTS: This series will brighten your kids imagination/ ADULTS: Re visit your childhood wonderland!

Summary: Definite 5 stars - A super story every time you read it.
Review: I have been a Narnia fan since early childhood - now that I am '30 something', I decided to try 1 of my favorite books on my son (who is 8). I am glad I did - he loves the book. I started reading it again and I am still astounded by the fantasy and mystique that these stories hold.

Summary: I Don't Want to Review This Book!
Review: But it keeps turning up in my "Why Haven't You Reviewed" list. Tony Hillerman, James Lee Burke, and JRR Tolkien manage to write fiction that is infused with their religious faith but not "heart on the sleeve." Lewis is a bore because he has an agenda, and if you don't buy the agenda, there's not much else in the books. The fact that it's the agenda of a major religion doesn't make these books any more exciting than, say, *Pilgrim's Progress* or *Uncle Tom's Cabin.*

Raw dogma is no more palatable than raw turnips.

Summary: Check all the closests for doorways to Narnia!
Review: After reading the series as a child myself, I am now reading the Chronicles of Narnia to my own children. What better way to end the day than a trip to Narnia to make for magical dreams?

Definitely read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as it is one of the best books in the set, and it also gives you the setting for the later Chronicles. It holds its own as a book without sequels, but the other books in the set are worth their weight in gold as well. I especially like The Horse and His Boy.

C.S. Lewis brilliantly weaves celtic mythology and Christianity into legendary tales of courage, heroism, honor, and love. These books are a must-read.

Summary: Fantasy for the soul!
Review: A healthy imagination is vital to the soul. But many of the fantasy books out there are dark and forbidding. C.S. Lewis has written a series that can develop that imagination, but teach good principles and values at the same time. Christians have often been accused of being stuffy and boring, partly as a result of a lack of real imagination in our literature. Not so with C.S. Lewis. He proves that Fantasy and the fantastic in general can be a positive and healthy influence. I have carried stories and concepts from the Chronicles with me throughout my education and literary life.

The quality and unique nature of the Chronicles can only be rivalled by the likes of luminaries such as Tolkein. Famous and popular as they both may be, there is redeeming value above and beyond the entertainment these books may provide. Rich, rewarding and imaginitive for adults and children alike. A perfect series to read to your children. They will remember the wardrobe forever!
