Summary: A good, basic text on VW sport tuning
Review: As a relative newcomer to VW 'hot rodding', I found the information in this book to be very useful. Unlike some books that concentrate on the powerplant alone, this book covers all aspects of sport tuning VWs, from ignition to suspension and tires. The book does have a heavy slant towards preparing VWs for autocross competition, but also has modifications for spec racer and plain old street performance. Most modifications have crossover potential between all three classes, limited only by racecar preparation rules (or the law for street vehicles). I especially liked the section on recommended modifications given a set budget. I would definitely recommend this book to people who want to get started tuning VWs.

Summary: A good in-depth overview of how to tune your VW.
Review: Being a complete VW nut I though I knew nearly everything about how to tune my VW. I bought this book more for referance than ideas.

However, after reading this I am amazed. It has opened my mind to further ideas and the occasional small trick to help get thoses ever elusive horses.

I would only recomend it to those who own Golfs or Jettas. It is largely concentrarted on Autocrossing but has many ideas and principals concerned with fast road cars.

Despite being an American book and concentrating on American VWs, the UK reader will gain a lot of knowledge.

Overall - if you own a VW and want to improove it you cannot go far wrong by giving this book a read. THe only problem is that you will immediatley want to go and spend all your money on a whole host of new perfomance parts!

Summary: VOLKSWAGEN SPORT TUNING FOR STREET AND COMPETITION
Review: I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THIS BOOK, ITS ONLY A BUYER GUIDE, IT'S ONLY HAVE FIVE BOLT-ON PERFORMANCE TIPS, AND THAT TIPS CAN DO ANYBODY. I EXPECTED MORE, BUT IF YOU SEE THE REFERENCE ABOUT THE AUTOR NOW YOU KNOW WHY (NO OFFENSE).

Summary: Great place for a weekend racer to begin learning!
Review: I bought this book because I own a 1997 GTI-VR6 that was purchased in May of '97 and first saw track duty in Sept. of the same year. I had not been 'performance driving' for long before I began looking for reference material. The old Haynes & Chilton's manuals are only for maintenance purposes and I could not find one of either for the VW six-cylinder cars anyway. I first saw this book in a Robert Bentley ad in european car magazine and ordered it straightaway. This book has been the impetus for my increased performance and lower lap times on the track. Examples of this on a 3.5 mile roadrace course are: Oct. '97, top speed-105mph/best time-3:09:12... Oct. '98, top speed-105mph/best time-3:00:02... and finally this past weekend of Mar. 13 & 14th '99, top speed-110mph/best time 2:58:214. With this book I have made solid performance-minded decisions and purchases without breaking bank. I've since received another copy as a present and decided that instead of returning it I'll just have two copies; A greasy one in the shop and a clean one in the house. Highly recommended.

Summary: Excellent Handbook VW Fans
Review: I bought this book with the intention of gathering as much information as possible about tuning my Volkswagen. Since my purchase, this book has become my bible for tuning my vehicle. This was the perfect bridge to lead me into more detailed and complex procedures behind tuning my Volkswagen. The book focuses more on the A2 and A1 vehicles, which was a bit of a downer because I drive an A3, but there was still plenty of information presented for the inquiring reader. The book emphasizes racing, and it is also an excellent source for information concerning the various racing organizations and clubs and their respective rules. I recommend this book for anyone new to automotive tuning, or for someone who is new to the specific category of tuning Volkswagens.

Summary: another book on performance tunning
Review: i dunno. a book devoted to sport tunning a VW, i guess. for the new VW owner, who pays a dealer or tunning shop to mod out their cars, this book may very well be the bible of choice but for seasoned vets of the H20s this book is more like a pop up book with pretty pictures. my recomendation would be, if you have no idea how to do simple bolt ons like suspension, cams etc then get the book cuz you'll need a clue. but if you're handy with an impact wrench just by the bentley manual for you car and a couple of performance catalogs.

Summary: Good General Knowledge with some insights
Review: I found this book to be very informative as far as the world of VW autocross. In areas of general tuning, it does offer some useful information as to the nature of how some performance upgrades will actually affect your car. It gives recommendations and seems to obviously favor certain products and manufacturers, but for the most part it is pretty objective. The best part is the glossary of manufacturers. In the back is a list of all of the aftermarket product manufacturers mentioned in the book and how to contact them. This has proved itself useful to me.
