Summary: 100 Years for revenge:International Terrorism and The FBI-Th
Review: Wow, what a great book! Lance exposes the FBI's inability to stop nurmerous terror attacks including the attacks on 9/11. Lance "connects the dots" between the international terrorists and the FBI and includes an actual timeline of events that is both fascinating and frightening! Lance tackles a very difficult subject in a clear and thought provoking manner!

Everything changed in America on 9/11. A war was being waged by international terrorists against the United States but we (citizens) were kept in the dark. Not anymore! This book is a must read for every citizen, every politican, every person in law inforcement if we are to understand the roots of terrorism and how to prevent further tradegy.

Summary: Enlightening and frightening
Review: I just finished reading "1000 Years for Revenge" - a simultaneously enlightening and frightening compilation of events and facts leading to 9/11. I truly commend Peter Lance on doing the work necessary to bringing out these important stories and intertwining them in such a compelling and readable manner.

I cannot imagine any reader coming away from this book not being perfectly stupefied, not only by the arrogance and negligence of our "guardians" (the FBI in particular) - so powerfully spotlighted by the author's research - but also by the ease with which those who would undertake vengeful acts can operate, in plain sight. An intelligence environment so lax, so insulated, with its upper-management echelons so smug and vindictive, indeed cries out for speedy, radical reform. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening.

Even today, the snail-paced inquiries and commissions, stymied and stifled by our purported representatives in Congress, not to mention an ever-more secretive executive branch, report only half truths, if that. America's investigative journalists, reporters and academics, as well as all of the smart people on the street - the heroes whose tales Peter Lance recounts so poignantly - appear to be way ahead of the game.

I found particularly helpful the inclusion of the author's "timeline" with its photos, dates, and succinct summaries of the key events that form the backbone of the narrative. Being able to put a face to the names of all of the "players" helped me to anchor the identities of the many individuals involved in these complex events. Also, the extensive notes provide an important overview of works for follow-up reading.

I congratulate the author on publishing such an important investigative work. In the end, an inquisitive, demanding and vigilant democratic populace will prevail; his work greatly contributes to the debates that need to take place so that this country can truly live up to its ideals.

Summary: A MUST READ FOR ANY AMERICAN
Review: Part of the grieving process of losing our innocence after the 911 disaster would have to be reading this book. I am an avid book collector and I have little time to actually read books. I found this book and it is one of the few books that I own that I have been willing to read cover to cover.
Shame on any American unwilling to educate themselves about this disaster. That is like not reading about the Nazis after WWII. We all need to be educated, and Lance's format draws even a casual reader spellbound into the Al Queda plot. The way he singles out individuals and demonstrates accountability forces me to reflect my own life and where I might be heading personally, professionally and spiritually.

Summary: God save us from incompetents!
Review: Peter's book was both enlightening and frightening! To think that the vaunted FBI could foul up so bad is disheartening. Due to power struggles, politics and just plain stupidity this organization allowed the largest terrorist strike to happen on our shores! And-many of the people who allowed this travesty to happen are still employed and in a position of power! Incredible! While the real heroes were chastised, investigated and worse...killed in this horrific event.
After finishing this book I wanted to drive down to the main FBI office, walk in there and kick some ass...and then fire many of the upper management in charge (Nancy Floyd I'd put you in charge!)
President Bush, Congress and ALL intelligence agencies should read this book and take a hard look at how they conduct security for this nation...or we will be doomed to more tragic events like 9/11.

A great read...couldn't put it down...fine job by Peter Lance!

Summary: Federal Bureau of Ineptitude and counting....
Review: Peter Lance leaves the reader with a commanding trail of events and missed opportunities leading to 9/11.

He also paints clear portraits of self-serving middlings who brushed off pertinent intelligence, either because a woman (Nancy Floyd) told them or, because they did not come upon the critical information themselves. God forbid a possible promotion should outrank their duty to the government they serve.

Anyone interested in why we are hated so much cannot afford to miss Mr. Lance's book. A tip for new readers: go to the middle pages first where Mr. Lance has made it a little easier for his readers to keep track of the people with the unfamiliar names A treasure trove of identities.

Meantime, if an Intervention were held on behalf of the FBI, would it learn where it went wrong and why it still has not moved to an alternate path? I doubt it.

Any agency that can notify 18,000 police departments, as the FBI did in December '03 to be alert to anyone carrying an almanac either is not too swift or, does not comprehend the value of the laptop and a terrorist's dream of information at the ready on the internet. In an instant, they can find out the minutest details about a town, a site, a road, the span of a bridge, the height of a building, etc. Even a full map and detailed directions on how to reach a place and how long it would take to get there.

Mr. Lance's "1000 Years for Revenge" presents a disturbing truth in a fluid style without need of embellishments. It should be required reading in any study of world history.

Summary: Missed the Point
Review: Regarding reviewer "Disappointing". How discouraging to see a reader so missing the point of the book. I do agree with the writer that hindsight is always the easier viewpoint. I also think it true that in the area of terrorism the lack of resources and support in the 1990's for the intelligence community crippled it and left us in the dangerous position we are in now. That being said, I think the book makes a very clear argument that if individuals/agencies hadn't been so closed and inept about sharing information (both inter and intra agency) it is possible that enough common threads would have been seen that thinking individuals would have seen the alarm.
Regarding Fire Marshal Bucca, I believe many of his colleagues and acquaintances were interviewed for the book and they attested to the fact that he spoke of a double pronged attack on the WTC after the 1993 bombing. Despite the current denials "that no one could predict" the WTC scenario there were many thinking individuals in the intelligence community who were aware of the risk after Ramsi Yousefs' 1995 statement. For someone who was familiar with the Islamic terrorist mindset the significance and connection was very obvious. It appeared to me that this Marshal's frustration was not with his profession but with the attitudes of ignorance and bias among agencies that were all sworn to protect and serve. It doesn't sound like FM Bucca would have considered himself a super sleuth but he did sound like a man trying to do his job and protect the public and his family. I would like to offer a word of thanks and encouragement to all those individuals who are working so hard to do that job now and are struggling with this difficult game of catch up. As a final thought, I hope that "Disappointing" is not currently a member of the law enforcement or intelligence community because I find his comments very disturbing. It is this type of smallness that proves the point of the book and reminds us of how far we still have to come.

Summary: TIRED OF INCOMPETENCE
Review: In regards to the reviewer of Disappointing...Hey buddy, how about you pull your head out of your @ss. As an Intel analyst on "the frontline" of this War on Terror, I can assure you, I share much of the same frustrations as Bucca. People in our field tend to hold clearances higher than most of the FBI or other OGA's for that matter. We are often able to see the whole picture and realize a lot of agencies are bogged down by bureaucratic red tape and egos similar to yours. Perhaps, if certain people didn't pretend to know more than they really do and were more concerned with the welfare of the nation (not their own career) things would get done. So, before you go making yourself an expert on the matter and judging what other people know/knew, maybe you should take a moment to self-reflect...and remove the foot from your mouth.

Summary: We should have paid attention!
Review: I read this book with great interest and found it to be a prelude to all the information coming out today, THAT 9/11 may have been avoided if egos were not in the way. Three people had valuable information that was totally ignored by the FBI, one of the people being an FBI agent herself. Ronald Bucca, a distinguished Fireman, Fire Marhshall and soldier apparently trained in terrorism had much to offer in the way of information that may have helped thwart the massive killing that took place on 9/11 by backward, ignorant and pathetic people. It has come out now that there were many signs that we would be attacked. No one took notice and as a result our nation was attacked. Now the attorney general is asking for the public's help. Maybe he should read this book. Perhaps the government, in particular the FBI, should pay closer attention to people like Ronald Bucca, a hero, who had the experience and knowledge of terrorism, to listen and investigate Ronald's claims, as well as the others. Perhaps, if these three people had been listened to, Mr. Bucca would be alive today along with over 3,000 other lost souls. After reading this book by Mr. Lance I do not trust our government to protect us any longer, especially in light of the fact that when offered legitimate information by in the know people, that information is ignored.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: While this book succeeds at laying out with clarity the interconnection of a decade of terrorist events, it fails miserably at objectivity. Although some of the "dots" that the author repeatedly refers to should indeed have been connected, doing so after the fact differs greatly from doing so in real-time. His thesis, which he repeats with utter conviction on virtually every page, is that had linkages been made, the 9/11 attacks would have been thwarted. His assertion is a gross oversimplification of a period with no historical parallel and a perfect example of hindsight being 20/20.

Also, his treatment of Firefighter Ronnie Bucca is preposterous. Bucca is a hero and nothing diminishes that. However, to portray him as some kind of disrespected super sleuth who alone had both insight into the terrorist threat and a premonition that the WTC would be attacked a second time is absolutely ridiculous. He was a frustrated fireman who seemingly longed to be a cop or an FBI agent. Writing that the destruction of the WTC had been "predicted" with "precision" by Bucca damages the author's credibility beyond repair.

Summary: 1000 Years for Revenge
Review: This book validates 100% the claims of Clark. Anyone that reads it cannot escape the irrefutable conclusion that we had all the clues available that could have prevented it time and again and ignored them for reasons that are abundantly clear if you read the book!!!!!!!!!
