Summary: Barry Goldwater was right.
Review: "Conservatives these days don't know what the word means."

Joe McCarthy did more to undermine anti-communist efforts with his running roughshod over the Constitution than any so-called "liberal" has ever done.

But to the people calling themselves conservatives these days, the Constitution is itself a treasonous document.

Summary: Pure Hyperbole.
Review: Do your self a favor and do not buy this book. It is written (Very poorly I might add) by a women who has quite obviosly lost touch with realty and whose only wish is that america returns to the parinoid, discriminating time that was the fifties.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: An insult
Review: to the many, many liberals and Democrats who have fought and died for this country. Ann Coulter caters to the extremists, those that believe their way is the only way and who undermine democracy every chance they get. Her grasp on reality is questionable, as are her so-called "facts".

Summary: Her version of consevatism is another form of communism
Review: In your vision, America should ruled or dominated by hate-filled ultra-conservative idea and anything that disagrees must be considered "treason". Didn't that idea come from communist counties, Ms. Coulter?
I always considered that conservatism is a positive thing if you apply that in society with good heart, empathy, honesty..keeping the social fabrics, democracy and civil liberties intact. But Ms. Coulter's connservatism has none. She keeps whining, blame liberals and pushes her agenda in the cloak of patriotism. Conservatism gets bad name due to this kind of pseudo-conservatives.

This book is a good example how facts/history can be distorted with personal prejudice. Hatred, popaganda and misinformation are the only substance in 290 plus pages. There is no factual analysis of a single piece of history. She picks up facts from history, omits the things she does not like and present them in mutilated form. In her book everything black and white. In her perspective, some Americans (liberals) are enemy of America and some Americans(conservatives) are are devoted to "protect" America. Anything does not agree with conservative ideology is un-Amrican or anti-America.

The writers like Ms. Coulter are the true exploiters of 9/11 who tries to make some bucks in the name of patriotism and conservatism.

This book has no[]intellectual, factual or historical value [at all].

Summary: The Truth Will Set You Free
Review: Finally someone puts into words what I have been bothered by for my 50 years on this earth. I could not put the book down until I had enjoyed every sentence.

Coulter has an extremely sharp wit and uses it through out the book. Her over the top verbal slices knife right to the point without politically correct blood transfusions to lessen the impact of her words.

I am sending copies to every member of congress. This should be required reading for all high school history classes.

Summary: This book left me with a sour taste in my mouth...
Review: After completing this book, I was downright disgusted with the Liberals. I had no idea to the depth of their subterfuge until reading this book. 50 years of bias history in relation to the Soviets, the new profound fight against terror, also being slanted towards the liberal agenda. The facts always point towards liberals siding with the enemy and this is a disturbing revelation indeed. The treason of the left is documented in this book, backed up with indisputable facts. The people of this country should take a long hard look at the Democrats, liberal media, liberal elites that this book exposes while remaining witty until the end. I consider this book to be a good start in the road to truth. I would say that the best line in the book to summarize would be this: "Liberals think they can defeat the truth with loudness."

Summary: A+B=C?
Review: This is an interesting book with many punchlines. Let's examine the argument Coulter is making.

A. Was there a strong pro-Communist, pro-Stalin, subversive element in the US government in the 30s & 40s?
Yes. It has been proved without the shadow of a doubt by the declassified Venona cables and the never impeached eyewitness testimony of the time.

B. Were these treasonous people aided and protected by elected Democrats, most notably FDR and his unelected aid Dean Acheson?
Yes. FDR promoted Hiss despite FBI warnings and Dean Acheson made a very public defense of same.

C. Therefore this proves that the Democrats and liberals are treasonous?

C. (or) Joseph McCarthy was properly discharging his duties in his role as Senator.

Yes, this is a monumental undertaking, the rehabilitation of a reviled character. Joseph McCarthy is still held up as villain. This is done mostly by Leftists that are attempting to limit the exercise of free speech by conservatives or to protect their own subversion. It may be an impossible task to resurrect his reputation from the years of abuse at the hands of Leftist historians. But the question remains, was McCarthy pursuing a just cause? An objective view of history (explained in this and other books) renders a "yes". Was McCarthy vilified beyond what was called for? An objective view of history renders a "yes". Were these Democrats guilty of treason? An objective view of history renders a "yes". Are they still (as Coulter implies)? She does not make this case.

True, the Leftists have now embraced Multi-Culturalism and America is the poorer for it. The wellspring of all this nonsense goes back to a time when the Democratic Party promoted and protected Soviet agents at the highest level of the FDR administration. If you want to see the face of US Communism today, you need to look no further than Katrina Vanden Heuvel of the Nation. She waxes annoyingly about all of America's shortcomings and most of what she says is merely echoes of the 30s and 40s. Merely adopting a pacifist stance in the face of current enemies is not a patently treasonable.

There is a discussion about whether Reagan ended the cold war, North Korea and the Iraq debate, which is interesting filler.

You should notice in this review that the term Leftist was what I used, not liberal or Democrat. This is a distinction that Coulter unfortunately fails to make. D Flynn makes it in his book, "Why the Left hates America", and is better for it. There were many anti-Communists Democrats and liberals. The conclusion she draws from it fails as well.

Summary: Valuable, but not necessarily for the expected reason
Review: Here's the thing. I am a UK national who voted Lib/Dem for tactical reasons in the last election as the best chance of unseating the Conservative incumbent. "Liberal" and "Conservative" aren't swear-words where I hail from, although folks may be a little reticent about admitting right-wing allegiance at a dinner party. For the past two and a half years my family and I have been living in the DC metro area. I am staggered at how partisan the politics is in this country. This book gives me a good indication of the background to all the bad feeling that exists. Of course it is diatribe - I would expect nothing less from Ann Coulter - but I did find it funny. Books are meant to communicate ideas and, yes, to entertain. One thing that Ms Coulter alleges, that I have anecdotal evidence for, is the tendency of at least some liberals (no invective intended) to fail to engage in reasoned debate. As an example, when attempting to discuss the rationale for affirmative action, I found myself being cast as someone with a "right-wing Republican agenda", resulting in tut-tutting amongst others at the gathering as if nothing more need be said. There's more than a little irony in someone with my background being accused in this manner by people who claim to to hold the intellectual high ground. It seems that "Treason" - and the thought processes that lie behind both it and "Stupid White Men" (both impressive titles regarding their invective content) - may explain why folks' intellectual faculties seem to have become subordinate to their partisan fervor. Unlike in the UK, where the quality press is quite evenly spread (or so it seems to me), most of the broadsheets here do seem to be left-of-center (see how adapted I've become...), so I think "Slander" will be next on my list.

Summary: The Right and Left Hate this Book
Review: Leaving aside any ideological objections, which could fill an entire book, lets deal with FACTS. Ann needs some help here.

Don't be fooled by the list of references and the bibliography at the end. Ann Coulter is adept at weaving a complex web of abused sources to form something resembling a coherent argument. Of course there is a ring of truth to some of what she's written, but as usual, she mixes it together with a large dose of exaggeration and equivication.

If you're really paying attention, it's easy to see why not just liberals, but many conservatives (her boss David Horowitz, Andrew Sullivan, Cathy Young, Dorothy Rabinowitz etc.) and even her own sources (Ron Radosh, the conservative McCarthy scholar) most importantly) have thoroughly trashed this book. Treason needs some context for the layman, so please read ABOUT this book too. You will be a skeptic by the second chapter.

If you're enamored by the "facts" poke around on Google and you'll find some (sometimes questionable) Ann Coulter fact-checking sites. You might not be so floored by this book.

This book really shows Ms. Coulter for what she is: an entertainer. She throws anything resembling an academic work out the window in order to pander to those who want to indulge themselves in their own narrow ideology. Historical and political REALITY does not resemble what Coulter is selling. Please don't buy it.

Summary: Liberal-bashing.....how original......
Review: This book is a complete joke. I won't get into all of my various problems with it, I'm sure you'll see that in PLENTY of other reviews, from liberals and conservatives alike. But defending MacCarthyism? Statements like this alone just go to show that Coulter cannot back up a word she says and her entire book is unfounded liberal-bashing. I am all for free speech, but if you're going to knock liberals, please do a bit of homework first to back up your accusations. Plus, trying to undermine our already-ailing two-party system is the REAL treason. Don't waste your time or money on this piece of junk.
