Rating: Summary: Ann Coutler Does It Again! Review: This is Ann Coulter's most stinging book yet. Both "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" and "Slander" were powerful and hard hitting, but this one packs an even stronger punch. In her typical no-holds-barred style, and some humorous bits as well, she makes important, original arguments and has the facts to back them up. These points will only become stronger as time goes on and the facts are accepted more widely. It is a fun, interesting, and important read for anyone interested in history, politics, or the arguments going on the public arena in this country. (P.S.: I've seen Ann go up against many liberal activists and commentators in recent weeks as she has been promoting this book, but I have yet seen anyone successfully refute any of the facts or assertions that she has made.)
Rating: Summary: Capitalizing on Hate Review: Well now, I'm a disillusioned ex-liberal who found that the leaders of the various liberal groups were more concerned with lining their own pockets than justice and liberty.Unfortunately, the modern Right seems to have exactly the same problem. As the right-wing continues to castigate the left for being concerned only with catering to their audience in order to make money, Coulter comes out with a book that does the same; those who already agree with it will buy it and shout about how true it is. Those who disagree are not tempted to buy it, as they, by their very nature, will either be those villified by it; or simply too knowing to engage in this claptrap. The simple fact is, there are very few facts in this book. It is caustic spew, with very little back-up, and no rebuttal rebutted. In short, it caters to it's particular audience, those who see the world in terms of Black and White; Right and Wrong; Left and Right (with no middle ground) and know that inherently and by Divine decree, they deserve all the best, and those opposing them deserve the worst fate imaginable. There are some apt points concerning what I like to call "public liberals". These are exactly the sort of people who are indeed like the liberals Coulter believes all Democrats to be. People who drop reason and justice to make a buck by popular backing. Unfortunately, this very volume proves that such a breed is not exclusive to the Left. The Right has it's fair share of those who will profit by dividing this country, exploiting and fueling the growing and lamentable "Partisan rift" that has prevented nearly any recombination of political solutions for nearly the entire history of American democracy. Coulter is not out to win converts, nor to make a reasonable case for her argument. She is out to complain, often wittily (I must admit) about what she dislikes, knowing that there will be those who, due to their belief structures, will line her wallet to commiserate with her. So much effort and energy lost on selfishness and negativity. So much complaining and rationalizing, so little logic or real examination. The only plus here is that Coulter has good company, from both sides of the political fence. Demonization has become the coin-in-trade of our political analysts. And the country is losing out because of it. And that is the real treason of it. . .
Rating: Summary: Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on T Review: Hilarious! No, not the book although it was fun to read. The most fun is in reading the reviews. Ann documents the facts of history which most of us that lived through the past fifty years already knew. The really fun part is to see the attack with no facts to back it up. Everything she says is true but not many have the audacity to put it in plain easy to understand English. Ann has done this in spades. Every fact is backed up with historical documentation. Most of it comes from the mouths of the powerful. This book should be required in all classes of American History. The truth hurts. OUCH!
Rating: Summary: Punditry at its worst Review: I am a pretty conservative guy. I believe that the right wing offers the most logical solutions to the many challenges facing America (which I believe to be a wonderful country). That being said, I do not believe we on the right need the kind of ranting, raging and whining that Ann Coulter does in this book. Her "history" is lopsided and at points just plain wrong. Take her views on McCarthy. She says that he was doing the right thing and that the bad parts of his reputation are just slander from Democrats. In reality, even Ronald Reagan (arguably the greatest Conservative politician of our times) stood bitterly against McCarthy's violation of fundamental American rights. Of course, Coulter would be all too happy to do away with that 1st Ammendmaant (one of the most critical in American society) and bring back McCarthy. Then there is her on Truman. According to her, Truman simply caved to Soviet Union and set us back years in the Cold War. Once again, reality does not quite fit. Truman managed to pull off the Berlin Airlift and successfully managed to make a coalition to stop Soviet advances with the Truman Doctrine. He saved the people of South Korea from the brutally oppressive regime of the North and made sure that Asia did not fall in the same way East Europe did (which, despite Coulter's emotional accusations, I believe Truman was powerless to stop). There are plenty of other things wrong in this book, but I have an unfortunate 1,000 word limit. Suffice it to say that she makes much of relatively small moves by Democrats while ignoring the shady deals and intelligence failures of their Republican counter parts. If this book were humor, I would give it a healthy five stars. As history, I feel the need to ask Amazon to make a zero star rating.
Rating: Summary: What an immature, unfair and unbalanced book. Review: I suppose with an IQ in the low teens this book could be appealing to the xenophobic, racist, homophobic, and all round hateful people sector of the book reading population. It would be fine if Ann Coulter was just a conservative pundit with conservative views and reasons why she supports it. Unfortuntly, Ann Coulter's rambling, ridiculous screed is nothing more than her hateful rants. Even on the dustjacket is her ignorance shown. "Liberals have been wrong about every foreign policy decision for the last 50 years." There you have it. She speaks like a angry redneck. Pathetic book...
Rating: Summary: Simply excellent Review: I just finished reading this book and am struck by how well written it is. I highly recommend this book and intend to send a few copies to friends as gifts. To Ms. Colter.... Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Stack of whack Review: It seems some people will write ANYTHING to squeeze a nickle out of a republican's pudgy fingers.... this woman is certainly one of them.... I guess all those VietNam soldiers and anti-war 'hippie' heroes, both living and dead were wrong about the lies created by republican-led war-hawks exposed for thier mis-leading atrocities over all these years... especially the profits gleaned by selling such chemicals as agent Orange: a substance that to this day has the Native-born Vietnamese women still delivering mutated babies... This kind of muck makes me sick whenever I see a slick liar feebly attempting to cover up an older lie. -Little woman, please!
Rating: Summary: Facts and Documentation People! Review: I just finished Ms. Coulter's book "Treason". The best reviews I have read of this book so far are the ones citing all the documentation and referencing Ms. Coulter employs. Reviewers have asked this before but I think it cannot be asked enough. Liberals: PROVE that any fact written by the author is fabricated or a lie (please note that a fact is not the same thing as an opinion). So far no one, professional or amateur, has met the challenge!! The most critical thing the New York Times review could come up with is that there is nothing new in her book!! This is a must read for anyone who wants a true understanding of the Left's defense of the indefensible.
Rating: Summary: The History We Were Not Allowed to Hear Review: I was in high school in the 1960's and would occasionally hear the name Alger Hiss, usually connected to Richard Nixon. When I asked who he was, I always got very vague answers like, "He was one of the people who Richard Nixon went after as a Communist." No one seemed to know much more than that including if he really was a Communist spy -- including my teachers! I couldn't find anything in the library about it and encyclepedia references were too breif and vague to be of help. There was no internet then. It continued as a curiosity to me for many years. In the 1980's my sister came across the book WITNESS by Whitaker Chambers and, knowing my interest in the subject, bought it for me. I was amazed that information on someone who had affected our history and the current world order was so buried. It made me rethink what I had been told about the House on Unamerican Activities Committee. Now Ms. Coulter has done the research to show Alger Hiss was just the tip of the iceberg. And she explains why the Democrats get so defensive --without much factual debate -- when challenged about their unwillingness to defend America and how fast they jump to the microphone to criticize her. Great book. BITING humor. Meticulously researched and cited. If you love history, you'll love this book because, like the Veronna Project, you'll never find it in the pages of our newspapers and magazines.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Mind Review: She's witty. She's smart. She's eloquent. She's funny. She's right on. And... She's beautiful.
