Rating: Summary: Ms. Coulter - My Hero Review: Unlike the Al Franken pure opinion and dribble, this is a magnificently annotated, foot noted, and thoroughly compelling work unmasking 65 years of democratic treachery. The Facts don't lie, and this book has documented Facts.
Rating: Summary: Coulter Hits a Home Run Review: Leftists will NOT like this book because the truth stings. It should be required reading of every college student. It would certainly help counteract the giant dose of liberalism that they would normally receive in academia today.Coulter's book brings up some very touchy subjects that when examined are shockingly accurate. I challenge anyone to refute any of her assertions with FACT. Not innuendo but cold, hard facts. QUite simply, Coulter is brilliant. Either way you fall in the political spectrum, this book will not disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Offensive tripe Review: Coulter's a schmuck who has done the conservative movement a grave diservice by defending a thug like McCarthy. Who's next? Josef Goebbels? Idi Amin? Vlad the Impaler? Shades of Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the former Iraqi information minister, I bet her next book will be an eloquent defense of Dracula himself: "Vlad the Impaler is NOT a bloodthirsty tyrant! I triple guarantee you this! His name was given to him by plague ridden infidel liberal Ottoman Turks, who are now writhing in agony on stakes-Ahem!-who love Wallachia or they will be executed-".
Rating: Summary: Who's lying now? Review: If you purchase this book, you'll be helping Ann finance a touch up for her roots, which is a noble gesture. But if you'd like to see her true colors, buy Al Franken's new book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them." He and his Harvard research team expose her hateful ranting for what it is -- a steaming pile of BS. Wake up, people!
Rating: Summary: Sarcasm at its sharpest... Review: Ann writes with quite the sharp pen. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart, and certainly not for liberals, especially liberals who prefer style over substance. As a conservative, I thoroughly enjoyed her wit (I especially liked her French "cheeses of mass destruction"). She did an outstanding job of counterbalancing years of liberal history revision, by putting things (regarding McCarthy and Nixon, among others) in their proper historical contexts. Since style is somewhat relative, I focus on substance, of which there was plenty. For people turned off by sarcasm... Tough. Your loss. (And you're probably liberal anyway.)
Rating: Summary: Coultergeist Review: Ann Coulter considers herself an intellectual warrior, yet she often doesn't deliver. She accuses the left of being overly emotional, rather than relying on facts to support their position. Yet her writing is often vagues as to source material, (such as the Clinton quote , mentioned in another review) where it would appear that she alone is the source. Emotionalism is rampant here. Coulter loves to make "bold" , controversial" remarks. One wonders though, if she will win any new admirers or if she is simply preaching to the perverted...sorry, converted. This sort of hyperbole that passes for journalism and political commentary is filled with a self righteous hatred for the left that ultimately leaves the reader wondering why this woman is so filled with blind hatred for liberalism, which has certainly contributed to the building of this country as much as the right. All things considered, this book is at best useful in the sense that it is always good to "know one's enemy". I don't think most conservatives agree with this person. Thank god there are many people on the right one can have an intelligent dialogue with. But it is always interesting to see how the mind of a Coulter works, her accusations of the left for being sloppy with facts, rewriting history etc, emotionalism rather than cool reason, the precise weapons she so blithely employs in her arsenal. I compiled the following list of quotes and sources, from various appearances on TV, articles etc. it is a fascinating look at a person who's ideology is obviously seen through opaque and vitrolic glasses: Many of these quotes were culled from apearances on Politically Incorrect, so i assume that were meant to be funny or shocking. For the most part they are neither, but they do provide an insight into the Ann Coulter personality. "[Clinton] masturbates in the sinks."---Rivera Live 8/2/99 "God gave us the earth. Rating: Summary: Critics Never Seem to Refute the Thesis Review: Interesting that in all the vitriolic criticism of Coulter, nobody actually refutes the thesis that takes up half this book: 1. That Joseph McCarthy was absolutely correct in his assertion that there were hundreds of Communist operatives and abettors in highly sensitive areas of our government. 2. That many of our highest government officials (including Presidents Roosevelt and Truman) knowingly ignored or dismissed these security risks. 3. That, broadly speaking, Liberals were/are far more agitated over the inquiry itself than the risks these people posed to us. My biggest disappointment in the book is that Coulter does not do a particularly good job of explaining why the Left -- at least the American Left -- is so thoroughly and instinctively anti-American. I've never really understood that myself, and I didn't emerge from this read with the answer.
Rating: Summary: Long winded ranting Review: I wanted to enjoy this book, I really did. But it came across as too much unabased bashing of everything Coulter hates, and not enough fact to back it up. You would think someone with Ann's resources would research her material better. If you like long-winded diatribes with no real meat, you may like this. I didn't.
Rating: Summary: Fun read, Fascinating Facts, Needed Better Editing Review: Knowing how Ann Coulter speaks is imperative to "hear" the irony and sarcasm dished freely in this take-another-look history of Red Scare lore. The research is well-documented from source material, whether anti-McCarthy die-hards will care for it is another matter. You have to admire her Moxie as she brass-knuckles every Commie sympathizer "out there." Yet, the style never allows the reader to take a decent breath. Really unfortunate is the constant referencing of personalities that only news junkies like myself would know without a contextual prompt. And would even someone like myself know who some of the lesser-knowns are in another 5 years? Definitely worth reading for the new take on the subject.
Rating: Summary: McCarthy was unfairly demonized!!! Review: Ann is a polarizing personality and like it or not she gets her point across. While many on the political left would like to see her "blacklisted" ( like she's not already in some cases) she is very opinionated an does a very good job (most of the time) reinforcing her opinion with fact. The political left continues to use McCarthy as the reason why "anti-Americanism" is really the only true form "patriotism". This blatant inconsistency with genuine patriots of American history just reinforces the fact that most liberal ideology is rarely reinforced with facts but they replace facts with name-calling and overemotional terminology. These very same people who tend to blame the USA for every ill and sin throughout the world are the same ones who want to increase the size of the government (the very same government they hate- so go figure) through intrusive socialist programs through increased taxation or by reducing our military and/or security. The following were all identified as Soviet spies in Venona under President Franklin Roosevelt (to name just a few): Alger Hiss- Assistant to the secretary of state Harry Dexter White- assistant secretary of the treasury Duncan Lee- Chief of staff to the head of office of the Strategic Services (precursor to CIA) The fact remains that McCarthy was right back then and would would be today if he pointed out how many within the political left (and media elite) still "blindly" defend and support those with "anti-American" treason-like political ideology while they try to masquerade it as "true-patriotism". While this book is not perfect it is a well written and well documented and reveals the fallacious anti-McCarthism ideology that still unfortunately plagues many within the democratic party. I personally think most liberals or democrats are NOT "anti-American" but I think they unknowingly defend and support those who are.
