Rating: Summary: Who's a traitor? Review: Check out the scuttling of LBJ's Vietnamese peace talks, documented in "The Trials of Henry Kissinger". It extended the war and in the end, they wound up copying Johnson's earlier peace plan.
Rating: Summary: You Can't Argue With the Facts Review: Great review of the history of the Democratic Party. The book is good reading, but it just confirms what most logical people already know.
Rating: Summary: "Patriotism" Makes a Comeback Review: Interesting. It seems that since sometime around the autumn of 2001, American Leftists, Stalinists, Mensheviks, (big D) Democrats, Socialists, Liberals, and other fellow travellers have become supremely concerned with estimations of their relative love of country. "How DARE they question my PATRIOTISM!!" has been the indignant mantra (even when no such question has been raised). What makes that interesting is that "patriotism" had been a dirty word on the port side for decades: a hollow, fascist abstraction meant to spellbind hillbillies, hicks, rubes, extremists, militarists, fascists, and Christians. Who else could love such a nation as the United States, with its uniquely oppressive international and domestic history!?! Who else indeed. So this sudden revaluing of patriotism after the September 11th attacks is based upon . . . mm, what? You in the back row! "Uhh . . . a reawakened sense among Leftists of the truly benevolent historical greatness of America?" Mmmmm maybe; but there's a better answer. You, with the Johnny Unitas haircut! "A sudden realization on the part of the crypto-Marxists that their most deeply coveted, yet paradoxical goals, ultimate national power and the United States as a European soviet, grow more and more unattainable as Americans come to realize how much contempt liberals and leftists harbor for the principles of Washington, Jefferson, and Adams?" BINGO!! Ann Coulter's book "Treason" comes at a moment of political crystallization in the U.S. and it is clearly not met with a great deal of hospitality in the Blue States and on the left side of the aisle. A.C. traces and pays deeply unwelcome attention to the history of American leftism and its extraordinary seizure of any opportunity to oppose the American experiment. From the McCarthy trials (classic liberal example of American fascist oppression; death toll: 0) in which a deeply-flawed yet ultimately justified senator from Minnesota sought to root out those in positions of power who were conspiring to turn the United States over to Joseph Stalin's enterprises (actual fascist oppression; death toll: 30 million). Coulter discusses the Left's desperate defense of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (which continues TO THIS DAY!!!!) for helping to usher in and secure a half century of Soviet slavery for roughly a billion miserable, tormented people (Thanks, J&E!!). We are shown liberals desperately ducking their responsibilities in Vietnam only to rain scorn and saliva down on those young men who weren't lucky, dishonest, or seditious enough to evade service to their great nation. Miss Coulter gives us one reason after another to distrust the current vigorous "flag-waving" of all of these formerly self-proclaimed "Citizens of the World." She does it with extraordinary wit and absolutely searing irony. Yeah, she's a bit over-the-top sometimes and displays a principled unwillingness to forgive. But, when compared to over-the-top defenses of Soviet treachery and Bin Laden as "freedom fighter" and the complete willingness of leftists to forgive Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Ho Chi Minh for communist genocide, Coulter, and her book, land four-square in the corner of righteousness. In an era in which the painful repercussions of not knowing your enemies have become so vivid, it is well-past time that American begin to study the enemy right here at home. Ann Coulter's "Treason" is a thorough, superbly researched and fantastically entertaining way to begin or continue that scholarship.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating and Important Account of Leftist Treachery Review: There is a lot of important information and commentary here that unfortunately will never receive even a cursory hearing from most of the country. One need only read the many brief negative (one-star) "reviews" here on Amazon to realize how psychotic most leftists are when it comes to refusing to notice any facts inconvenient to their world view. I doubt that any of those people even read the book, because their views could not survive a genuine confrontation with the many facts and quotes provided by Coulter. My main criticism of Coulter is that she should distinguish, as Mona Charen does, between the many "useful idiots" on the left who eagerly support foolish people and causes (from Lenin and Stalin to Castro and Saddam) and the much smaller number of genuine traitors who engaged in espionage or who consciously sought the downfall of their country. Coulter's reply is than anyone who "aids and abets" an enemy is a traitor, but the many "useful idiots" do not mean to do so and should be placed in a distinct category. That does not make them any less harmful, but it is wrong to imply that these people (e.g., most of the Democratic Party) really mean ill toward their country -- they are psychotically deluded but not consciously treasonous.
Rating: Summary: A fever swamp Review: Breezy writing can't cover up the hatred this woman feels for America. She would love to launch a war on bogey-men liberals and in the process destroy the peace of our great country. Borrow it from the library if only to learn what Goebbels must have looked like to Germans in 1933. She's playing with fire.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Tells an Un-Spinned Story of History! Review: Contrary to what many reviewers here have said, this book portrays history as it actually happened. Instead of spinning historical events to meet the demands of a politically correct world, Ann Coulter has done her research and presented the facts. Coulter uses the TRUTH to back up her professionally told accounts of Soviet infiltrators, including many in the Roosevelt administration, who came close to taking over American society. Those who say this book is garbage are obviously afraid of history, and the truths that are told in this book. They claim to be "students of history", but obviously do not have a grasp on the actual events as they occurred. Instead of poorly devised mudslinging found in books by authors such as Michael Moore and his book, "Stupid White Men", whose title should have been saved for his autobiography and family reunion scrapbook, Ann Coulter provides historical fact, instead of ranting, to show that Soviet spies had a stranglehold on the American way of life. If you want to hear the truth that isn't presented in popular literature, than read this book. You'll be happy you bought it!
Rating: Summary: Give me a break, willya... Review: Ann really has to work hard to rehabilitate Joe McCarthy. It's just too bad that all those horrible liberals like Dwight Eisenhower and the Republican-controlled Senate finally put an end to the nonsense of this "American hero" and "protector of freedom." Come to think of it, though, Ann and Joe make a real fun couple: two blowhards, each loose with the facts, who have no hesitation about saying anything about anyone they disagree with.
Rating: Summary: A McCarthy Apologist Review: Ignore her and she might go away.
Rating: Summary: Give me a break Review: Can this woman please stop believing her own lies. George W. Bush- Grew up rich, average student, had everything handed to him, conservative president. Bill Clinton- Grew up poor, worked hard to get where he is, exeptionally smart, liberal president. Now tell me that there is not a moral difference between the two partys.
Rating: Summary: Un-American Review: Ann Coulter is a large part of the price we pay for the 1st Amendment. She loves people who agree with her politics. She hates people who do not.Her philosophy, which is expressed in her book, is un-American. Real American patriots welcome differnet points-of-view and cherish the fact that we live in a society where people of good will are allowed to think for themselves and disagree with other folks who are likewise thinking for themselves. Contrary to what she says, we are not required to agree with Ann Coulter in order to avoid committing treason.
