Rating: Summary: Simply awful. Review: This book is a misleading, cursory, and careless biased view of history. Although I am a longstanding Libertarian, this book puts conservative thought to shame.
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading. Review: Once again, Ann Coulter has written an excellent, well researched, well DOCUMENTED book. Anyone who doubts her word can check out her sources in the approximately 46 and a half pages of footnotes. ...Thanks to the Venona intercepts, we have all the proof we need that MCCARTHY WAS RIGHT!
Rating: Summary: Is she an undercover Democrat? Review: Coulter is one of those "patriots" who loves her country and hates 90% of the people in it. If you're someone who believes that McCarthyism was bad for America, safety nets like social security and welfare are a good idea, or that it's okay to criticize the government's actions, you may as well hand yourself over to the FBI right now. According to Coulter, you're no different from Benedict Arnold or the Rosenbergs. The venom and bile in the book grows so vicious, it makes you wonder if Coulter is actually a Democratic trying to make Republicans look cartoonish The ideal reader for this book would be someone far-right enough to agree with Coulter's views, and emotionally insecure enough to need to hear that people who think differently are trash. Since reviewers found factual errors on nearly every page of her last book, it's hard to imagine someone with a serious interest in history who would find a use for it.
Rating: Summary: Blond Ambition Review: Nobody believes Ann Coulter's extraordinary accusations. Do not blame it on her baby doll looks. The Encyclopedia of World History, Sixth Edition (Peter N. Stearns, General Editor): "The charges made by Sen. Joseph McCarthy of large-scale Communist infiltration into the State Department were found to be untrue by a Senate committee. The senator's careless accusations brought great hardship to many people." Professor of History (Rutgers University) David Oshinsky wrote in United State History (Oxford, University Press, 2001): "McCarthy's hearings did not uncover any communists. They did, however, ruin numerous careers, undermine government morale, and make America look ridiculous in the eyes of the world... The Senate censured McCarthy for bringing that body "into dishonor and disrepute." U.S. government funded "Radio Liberty" broadcasted (06/19/03): "Atmosphere of McCarthy's hysteria and anti-Semitism played the major role in the Rosenberg's conviction." To whom you will believe? US government and History Professors or the ambition blond.
Rating: Summary: The truth hurts Review: An excellent book. Ann Coulter does what more and more writers are doing these days and confronting the left at their attempt to rewrite history. I laughed at many of the on-line comments about this book in the negative. Ms. Coulter's assertations and analysis are well documented and simply recount the events of McCarthy (among other things) and gives her opinion of it. She is doing nothing that the left hasn't done except her arguements have some truthful, ring to it that she can back up. If the book has a flaw, it is that Ms. Coulter takes the assault on the left to a personal level and is too abrasive. I don't believe all liberals hate America, nor do I think that the Democratic part necessarily has bad goals for our country. I just believe that they are a bit misguided and their proposed solutions aren't the best. Ms. Coulter, on the other hand, lumps the left in one big category and attacks the mass. Not the best way to win an arguement. That said, she makes up for it by exhaustively researching the subject and annotating everything that has happened from official government records and witness accounts. Anyone saying that she is lying is either misguided or living in the dream world that Ms. Coulter claims the left is in. Because to believe that she 'lied' about the events she has explored in enormous detail; would be the same as doubting 9-11 really happened. An excellent book, but if she took the personal attacks of the left down a notch, it would have been better.
Rating: Summary: Corrects Liberal Myths Review: I pre-ordered this book in February and was not disappointed. Judging from the liberal critiques of the book, Ann Coulter has exposed a very raw liberal nerve here. She articulates with laser beam accuracy something that most Americans know intuitively - liberals almost always side with America's enemies. This book may well change liberal-conservative debate as it explodes the myths behind several liberal sacred cows. The "McCarthyism" ploy used all too often by Democrats to deflect questions about real issues is exposed for what it is - a liberal distortion of history. Liberals have been bludgeoning us with the charge "McCarthyism" for decades whenever someone deigns question their patriotism. They almost always seek refuge in name-calling and personal attacks rather than debate the issues - quickly resorting to epitaphs like "racist", "bigot", "McCarthyite", "gay" or worse whenever true debate begins. After viewing some "reader" comments the liberal attack dogs are out in force attacking Ann Coutler in their typical hysterical and demeaning fashion. Coulter lays bare the liberal mindset for what it is - an anti-American movement that cares more for promoting its failed utopian world view than it does for truth and integrity. Individuals who promote this miserable world view - no matter how criminal or immoral they may be - are defended by the liberal faithful at all costs as was the case with Alger Hiss, a Soviet spy, and more recently Bill Clinton, a convicted liar and ual predator. This book clearly put a significant portion of the American liberal movement where it belongs - on the side of Stalin and his cohorts. Joe McCarthy did this country a great service. He brought to light the alarming extent of Soviet KGB/GRU spies operating with impunity in the highest reaches of the U.S. Government. These spies constituted a very real security threat to America and McCarthy was one of a handful of men who attempted to expose this mighty effort by a foreign power to undermine and, yes, destroy America. For his great service, McCarthy has been vilified by the left ever since. This is the perfect book for those interested in the Cold War, Joe McCarthy and liberal fairy tales. Devastating to liberals! Great job Ann!
Rating: Summary: Ann's lost her mind Review: If you thought it amazing that her last book was allowed to be billed as "non-fiction," you will really cringe upon reading this one. You see, Ann has morphed her rage against liberals into fury at anyone left of George W. and Ashcroft. But she doesn't give researched examples or solid arguments -- surprise, surprise! -- but offers, instead, a hysterical screed that effectively labels more than 50% of Americans traitors. One thing is for certain, this book is not about anything but ANN, and of all the people you could read about, she's most certainly the least interesting.
Rating: Summary: Reads like a thriller, rings with truth Review: Ann Coulter writes so well that I was pulled through this book as though it were a first-rate thriller. She puts together dry historical fact in a sharp, fresh package that makes you laugh and gasp. Her cutting and sarcastic tongue is so unlike the meek Republican standard that I'm sure many people will find her offensive. I gulped at some of her phrasing, I admit. But when you read and hear what her enemies say, who can fault her for bringing a bigger sword of wit to the fight? I felt as though someone was finally opening the door to history and telling me what really went on at a crucial point in American politics. Don't miss this book.
Rating: Summary: Just More Liberal Bashing Lies Review: Anne Coulter and her right-wing colleagues have taken political debate and commentary to its lowest level. Like most other conservative commentators, Coulter has difficulty explaining why her political views are right and why the liberals' views are wrong. This book is just another attempt to demonize non-conservatives. I can summarize this book in a few short sentences so that you won't have to buy it. It says, "If you were against the war with Iraq, you were on the side of Saddam Hussein. If you disagree with conservatives, you are not patriotic. Oh yeah, liberals are liars."
Rating: Summary: The only person treasonous is Ann Coulter... Review: For writing such a THIRD-RATE novel full of LIES and FIBS!! I READ the book and it IS written at THIRD-GRADE LEVEL!! WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY and TIME!! DON'T BUY IT - SAVE your money!!
