Summary: Liberal Strategy Will Never Win
Review: Despite the left's mantra that the victor writes history, the truth always comes out, and some people can't handle that (see the one star ratings of this book). Perhaps Ms. Coulter paints a rosier picture of McCarthy than is due, but she has provided a long over due popular refutation of the myth that McCarthy was a boogieman. The strategy of demagoguery practiced by the left for some 50 years now is not as powerful as it once was. Long live freedom of speech.

Summary: Appalling and deeply destructive to our society
Review: As an historian, I find myself appalled by this book. There is no excuse for shoddy research and angry screaming polemical diatribes such as Coulter writes. I am prepared to extend Ms. Coulter the right to her own opinions (although she and her kind seem reluctant to extend this right to any one who opposes her) but she does not have the right to claim her book is factually based. It is not-take it from one who knows (I possess a PhD in American history from one of the country's leading universities).

What disturbs me the most abt Coulter and her work is not the lies which she perpetuates but rather the division she is bent on creating in this society. Regardless of my political leanings, I find myself deeply upset by her screeching "treason" at those who oppose her. Liberals, it might be remembered, are the ones who brought you civil rights, ensured that women had the right to vote, and brought you the New Deal (which has benefitted every American-with the exception of the upper-classes-and Coulter herself is a member of the latter group-she is from Greenwich, one of the wealthiest suburbs in America). These actions are not exactly treasonous. To call liberals (and people like Cleland or Kerry who, unlike George W. Bush, actually fought in Vietnam) treasonous is really unforgiveable. I can only hope that Ms. Coulter is sued for slander---and soon.

Give this book a miss. Read anything but this book.

Summary: Treason reuires reason
Review: As usual, Ms Coulter has written an insightful, learned book. The problem, of course, is that it requires some knowledge of history and an open mind - two items presently in short supply in this country. For years I have told my two sons that the "McCarthy witch hunt" was based in fact as supported by the barely reported Venona Project amongst other sources. I also informed them that Alger Hiss was convicted and that the FDR/Truman administrations were infiltrated to an incredible degree by paid Soviet agents and unpaid sympathizers. Of course, this flew in the face of what they "learned" from their social studies "teachers" in middle and high school. Finally, I have a first-hand account of that unfortunate period that my sons can use to refute the nonsense being espoused in our schools and our media. Thank you Ms Coulter!

Summary: AWESOME BOOK***************
Review: Ann Coulter is right on the money with this book. I have always wanted to know more about McCarthy-the truth that is- and this book clears up a lot. An awesome read! I highly recommend it.

Summary: Ann Coulter is great
Review: Treason is a well written, blunt explanation of how the left has repeatedly taken the wrong side of every American conflict since WWII and how the left is more concerned about its image than it is protecting the country from its exterior and interior threats. Coulter is brash and does not mince words. I give the book 4 stars only because some off the cuff remarks are more insulting than useful, overall though it is a great read!

Summary: The other side of the story
Review: This book tells many of the lacking "other side" of history from the end of World War 2 to the present regarding the lack of action or complete disruption of our nation by liberals.

Summary: Good Reading
Review: my college journalism prof once told us that for a book to have value it must entertain, provoke, or educate. this one, in my view, does all three. i devoted 45 minutes to reading the 400 or so reviews listed for this book. based on the volume of interest, one certainly cannot say that coulter's latest does not provoke. with this one, the lines are clearly drawn, with all the one star liberals on one side, the 5 star conservatives on the other. i should admit up front, that i am no different. well, maybe so in one small way. as a small boy, i can vividly recall my father's reaction to "mccarthyism". a veteran of WWII, he was certainly no fan of communism. his opinion of the destruction of senator mcarthy's credibility and reputation certainly mirrored this "anti red" bent. a modestly educated man, he was well read, and followed the hearings with great interest. he, LIKE MANY OTHERS, believed that the senator was on to something. anyway, getting back to the book, i will avoid the usual"intellectual" arguments pro and con, staying away from the pseudo intellectual jargon (i.e. vitriolic, diatribe, histrionics, etc). i choose rather to appeal to the potential buyers curiosity concerning the history of our country after WWII, during the cold war and beyond. as pointed out in numerous articles, journals and and "right leaning" books, textbooks relating to american history have been "sanitized" by authors who are almost invariably liberal in their political beliefs. the fact that academics are inordinately liberal is well chronicled and normally left undisputed. today's youth, if they are familiar with the phenomena of "mccarthism" at all, are firm believers in the story line that he was not only evil, but incorrect in his pursuit to root out communist sympathizers. ann coulter is not the only author to point out that the Democratic administration of the times was riddled with communists. in fact, as her sources point out, this fact was well known and accepted at the time. i believe that, in its essence, her book is factual and her suppositions correct. many of her detractors suggest that her sources are poorly researched or misquoted. others suggest that, due to her conservative leanings, she has outright lied. i would ask, though, how would they know? few historians or individuals intimately familiar with the facts write these reviews. the accusors are guilty of precisely what they accuse ms coulter of, jumping to conclusions without factual basis. this is a good book. it gives the reader a fair assesment of the mcarthy era and, i'll say this controversially, a good idea of how the democratic party got to where it is today. i'm not suggesting that all democrats are unpatriotic. i know this to be untrue. i do suggest though, that a minority of democrats (those residing in the left extreme) call the shots and have socialist leanings.

Summary: unfounded garbage
Review: Don't be fooled. Ann Coultier is on intellectual par with Howard Stern. This book is is a pile of unfounded garbage by an irrationally conservative shock jock.

Summary: To the reader in SF from July 8th
Review: you wrote:

"many of you may not know that in an article that came out today, she calls Nixon one of the 5 heroes of this century (she includes J Edgar Hoover and McCarthy in that list)."

That's not exactly true and your rephrasing of Coulter's words is misleading. What Coulter really wrote is "ON OUR NATION'S birthday, it is appropriate to honor the five men who did the most to defend our freedom in the last century. The names are easy to remember Ð they are the five men most loathed by liberals: Joseph McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover, Richard Nixon, Whittaker Chambers and Ronald Reagan."

Now, mind you, there is a certain difference between saying simply "5 heroes of the this century" and what Coulter writes. (Not to worry though - if we think globally, Yeltsin is not on the list ;) ).

you also wrote:

"she seems to have forgotten about that little matter of Watergate"

No she hasn't. It is always good to read an author with a certain perspective which may be elusive if you forget the author's earlier books/works (I have the beginning of High Crimes in mind). And Ann is certainly NOT condoning Nixon's indiscretions. It would be silly to think that.

Summary: OTHER BOOKS FOR FANS OF ANN!
Review: If you love this book, there's another book from a German author you'd probably dig. It's called "Mein Kampf."
