Rating: Summary: An Appalling Debacle Review: While Coulter has long shown her willingness to ignore the truth when it gets in the way of her ideological rants, this travesty reaches new lows. I am stunned that this is being treated as some sort of monumental work--it is nothing more than the extreme right-wing rantings of someone who does not even pretend to fact-check her work. I am even more appalled that thousands of readers are being duped into following her twisted view of history. For those people who complain that politics has sunk to a new low in name-calling, I point to Coulter's vitriolic attacts as Exhibit A.
Rating: Summary: It boggles the mind... Review: I know many people will defend her no matter what, just as many will hate her no matter what, so I'm not going to try and change anyone's mind. However, it's well documented that her books are packed with erroneous citings and distorted facts. I honestly don't know how she gets away with it. And the hateful tone? It's either a shrewd way of keeping people's attention or else the woman really is mentally unbalanced. (I'm hearing more and more people speculate about that; I mean, she actually uses the phrase "scrawny pinko" at one point.)Also, I've heard more than once that Coulter considers herself a real foxy babe. Think about that, look at the cover of her book, and you'll see that she's clearly existing in an alternative universe.
Rating: Summary: Pure and simple bigotry and violence monger Review: Ms. Coulter actually stated in the National Review Online of September 13, 2002, in reference to Middle Eastern countries, "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious (during WW II) about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war. Folks, please take a stand against bigotry, religious hatred and violence. Buying Coulter's book will only support these. What she advocates is not the American Way. Just because someone attacked our soil in 2001 does not mean that we must become worse than the terrorists who did that to us.
Rating: Summary: Completely Arrogant Review: Mrs. Coulter obviously has an agenda to persue. This book bashes liberals with a sharp toungue, and accuses them of being unpatriotic. However many of the arguments are just pitiful, and not backed by credible sources. She resorts to unabashed name-calling, and throughout the book it's hard to seperate Mrs. Coulter's opinions from fact. They are all mixed together in an anti-liberal stew. She actually advocates dissolving the entire democratic party. So much for balanced intellectual journalism. If you want a better book read something by Rush Limbaugh.
Rating: Summary: Facts Are Stubborn Things Review: Ann has thoroughly documented this review of the Left's role in attacking American resolve over the last 60 years. Liberals have been on the wrong side in every major crisis during this period. They were wrong about Soviet spies in the US government, they were wrong about Mao, the Vietcong, Cambodia, Iran, Grenada, Cuba, the Cold War, Reagan, Afghanistan, Iraq and everything else in between. They were wrong to the detriment of hundreds of millions of souls. Ann carefully documents that the hue and cry from the Left under the guise of "civil rights" over the years served only as a cover for their anti-American activities. We all cower when the liberals scream "McCarthyism" without really knowing why. True debate has been stifled by the screams of the Left who controlled every major media outlet in this country until the advent of the internet and the expansion of cable. Becoming the toast of the town at Harvard and hitting the college speaking circuit is not exactly the equivalent of having a "ruined life" as liberals would have us believe was the result of McCarthy's work. As the Venona Papers have revealed (along with declassified KGB files), McCarthy was right. The Soviets had agents all through the US government. What you will see today is what you saw then, a refusal to address the arguments put forth by Ms. Coulter based on the facts. You will only get a dismissive attitude that decries her style. They won't refute the facts with research, just dismiss them offhandedly with an "everybody knows she's wrong" argument. As John Adams said, however, "Facts are stubborn things." Ann has the facts on her side.
Rating: Summary: EVIL- PURE EVIL Review: George Marshall,Truman and Kennedy traitors? This woman is the worst sort of lying filthy Anti-American. She is promoting the interests of Transanational Crypto Fascists who wish to dismantle the constitution and kill the middle class. George Marshall gave 50+ years of his life to his country, was the single greatest factor in us winning WWII.Truman was a GREAT president who had the courage to drop the A-bomb on the Japs and oh by the way was a WWI Combat Vet. Kennedy? Again a WWII decorated hero. Aside from Ike and the 1st President Bush none of the guys in this book ever saw War. Joseph McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Allen Dulles, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and George W. Bush are all examples of Anti-Democratic liars who care nothing about average Americans. They are an obscene insult to every GI who died on Omaha Beach or the Chosin Reservoir or in the Republic of Vietnam. They are Chicken hawks who want to kill other people's sons. Anyone who buys this pack of lies is a fool, blind or a Nazi sympathizer.
Rating: Summary: How does a conservative see this book? Review: Most telling review I've seen of this book was by solid conservative pundit David Horowitz. He basically called it junk. He points out dozens of cases of historical revisionism, combined with her refusal to actually address any of her errors during talk shows (ex: she repeatedly says all Democrats have always been "traitors", but totally ignores Truman and Kennedy in standing up to the Soviets; she accuses Truman of attacking Churchill's speech in ?1947?, yet ignores the fact Churchill was there thanks to an invite from Truman himself!; it just keeps going on like this). Horowitz also points out it can't be good for conservatives when the people who seem happiest with Coulter's book are all very liberal. He says this is because they love the fact that she allows them to yet again present all conservatives as a mindless hate mob who would destroy anything and anyone who dares not agree with them (note Coulter's apparent ignorance that her stated wish that all Democrats could be done away with, leaving us only with a Republican party, indicates in her ideal world our political system would actually be more akin to Stalinist Soviet Union than a free America). Don't believe me - go to Horowitz's web site and read it yourself. Also suggest you try the very non-partisan SpinSanity, who do an excellent job pointing out the MANY, MANY errors and distortions in her book (their biggest complaint: she constantly attibutes a "liberal" position to a newspaper, but when you actually check the source article you discover the paper was actually (and accurately) quoting a news source).
Rating: Summary: Briefly Review: Regarding the nastier of the negative reviewers: please consider reading a book before trashing it. It shows very clearly when you do not. If you need a forum for spouting your political views consider writing your own book. I did finish this one. It does a remarkable job of grilling a few of the mainstays of liberal mythology. No, there isn't a huge amount of "new" information, but an honest presentation not filtered by the censors of the mass media is a rare and wonderful occurence.
Rating: Summary: Simply put... Review: Why must the liberal elites even have to waste their breath defending proven Soviet spies? Would conservatives defend Nazi spies that infiltrated the US government? Of course not, they would have thrown them the book. Because of this you really have to question those elites (The Nation) spending entire articles trying to defend these proven spies. What is their purpose for doing so? Ann doesn't specifically address this point, but she does an excellent job on other points. Specifically: 1. Shows what a present day infiltration of enemies in the government would look like. 2. Shows that at the time Mccarthy was wildly popular with the American people. 3. Dispproves the myth that opposition to the Vietnam war was widespread. So why do liberals now refuse to acknowledge proven spies during the 50s? Ann was right, liberals have some character trait that always causes them to root for the enemy. Ann knocks one out of the park with this one.
Rating: Summary: Well documented Review: Say what you will about this author. There are 47 pages of notes and bibliography supporting every single claim.
