Rating: Summary: Finally, the facts surrounding the "commie" scare Review: This book is interesting and chilling, backed up by facts in detailed footnotes. I knew about the Rosembergs et al but wasn't aware of the complacency of Roosevelt and Truman, presidents I assumed were against Communism. In fact, they had spies working in key jobs. We are fortunate for true anti-Communists who turned the situation around, but not until many billions of dollars were spent (and millions dead inside the Soviet Union, Cambodia, etc.). This is important history made timely.
Rating: Summary: And Where Did You Go To School? Review: Let's see... McCarthy really had everybody's best interest in mind when he flushed the Constitution and destroyed lives in his search for the Communist under every bed; And, Nixon was really a nice guy when he walked around the democratic process in Watergate; And, Reagan was the ONLY PRESIDENT responsible for the fall of Communism, in spite of 40 years of consistent bi-partisan battle in the Cold War; And, yes, there really are "Weapons of Mass Destruction" hidden out there in the Iraq desert that the U.N. didn't really destroy 10 years ago... someday we will find them and George W. Bush will be vindicated. KEEP SAYING IT LOUDER AND LOUDER ANN, AND MAYBE SOMEDAY IT WILL ALL COME TRUE... until then, Ann, keep your pretty little empty head in the toilet, because you have a bad case of diarrhea of the mouth.
Rating: Summary: Frankly uselss Review: The reviews of this book are probably more instructive than the book itself. People simply aren't taking rational views of what they are reading. Look, Ann Coulter, however you view her, is human, right? She's bound to make SOME mistakes, or overstate at least SOME of her points. It's just sensible to think that, while her overall points or arguments might be fine or good or satisfactory, it's not the Gospel. Anyone who declares this book (or any book like Hillary's new book, or Bleumenthal's "Clinton Wars," where politics are the underlying agenda) to be the be-all-end-all has no real credibility. The same thing holds for those who give the book no quarter and lambast every word in it. Cmon people, she's a PUNDIT, not a historian. Some things will be true, some things will be exaggerations. Anyone who believes otherwise is naive at best or a zealot at worst. And it's precisely this inability to moderate oneself that pushes political discourse into angry yelling, rather than reasoned dialogue about what is actually best for America.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding truth telling! Review: Ann Coulter is gutsy and clever in her historical accounts. I am glad I purchased this book. I was a child during the Viet-Nam era and am astounded to read the truth behind the real reason we went to war. A terrific read.
Rating: Summary: Can YOU Handle The Truth? Review: Let me make this short and sweet. I could care less if my review is helpful to you or not. But, if you want to know the honest TRUTH about the Democratic party, read this book and be INFORMED! Tons of factural information / well documented. Enjoy the read as the scales fall from your eyes!
Rating: Summary: good form! Review: Ann, you sure made the liberals mad with this one. I've never seen such a closed-minded group of people. They are tolerant of everything *except* a differing point of view. Some of these reviewers sound like they're ready to claw at your face and throw your book in the Nazi bonfire. You make some excellent points in your book. Yes, Reagan was right after all. And Bush will be vindicated as well. Liberals love their pet agendas far more than they love their country. Keep telling the truth, Ann. Somebody in the media needs to.
Rating: Summary: Well written. Good points, delivered with style Review: I agree with much of what Ms. Coulter says about the Left in this scathing, entertainingly written alternative to Hillary Clinton's pack of lies, "Gulping for Air."
Rating: Summary: A Moderately Interesting Book Review: The language is a bit overblown and the charges are not always proven. Trying to revive Joe McCarthy's reputation appears a bit much.
Rating: Summary: It Had to be Said Review: In this age of astounding amounts of information and more opinions than one can ever consider, Ann Coulter cuts through the nonsense and delivers a well-timed, exhaustively researched thesis on the true nature of modern liberalism. It is well-timed because we see liberals lining up to side with America's enemies just as they did with the Cold War. In fact, Hollywood is planning a pro-Che film so that all the little MTV drones wearing his likeness can have an anti-American story to go with the fashion. Coulter is the Joe Mcarthy of the day-and that's a compliment.
Rating: Summary: Well documented case that merits your review Review: This book is as good or better than her previous two books,The Case Against Bill Clinton, and Slander. The author displays all the wit and brilliance in this book as she does in her weekly columns, too. Of course, liberals will hate this book, as many of the one star reviewers do(they obviously have not read the book). God forbid anyone tell the truth like Ann Coulter does. One of the biggest scandals Ann reveals is that the Big Media in this country has never reported on the Venona Project. When actual decrypted cables are declassified, proving beyond doubt that many high-level officials in the Roosevelt and Truman government were Soviet spies, you would think that this would be a big, newsworthy story. No,not to people who sympathize with the spies, not the anti-Communists. Alger Hiss, who liberals to this day claim was innocent, was at Yalta with Roosevelt, though on Joseph Stalin's payroll as a Soviet spy. The Rosenburgs are guilty beyond doubt--there are the encryped cables to prove it. But the NYTimes buried the story, and still claims they are innocent. Henry Wallace, Vice President under Roosevelt, pressured Roosevelt to help Stalin gain control of Eastern Europe, and sided with Stalin when he seized Czechoslovakia. He almost became President! It was not until Joe McCarthy began investigating that people became aware of the actual treason going on in Democratic administrations. Joseph McCarthy may have made some mistakes, but the truth of the matter is that he sacrificed his reputation, his career even his life (he died at age 48 under the stress of the media onslaught)in order to alert the American people to the danger posed by hundreds of Soviet spies in the United States government. The Venona Project proving he was right is only one of the big stories that Big Media has covered up. Another big lie Big Media continues to perpetuate is that the Soviet Union was "collapsing on it's own," and Ronald Reagan's principled opposition had nothing to do with it.Like Ann says,if the USSR was "on it's last legs," why did the liberals shriek and howl every time Ronald Reagan took measures to oppose the Soviets, as if they did pose a threat? (Liberals believe in appeasement, and Ronald Reagan wasn't appeasing!) One more truth Ann points out that liberals never admit is that the Democrats bungled the Vietnam war, yet they love to cite this war as they reason we should never defend ourselves. Who were the presidents who got us into the Vietnam mess? Kennedy and Johnson of course, who,as Democrats, came under the thrall of the appeasers. And how many millions were killed in the Gulags and when Vietnam fell to the Communists? I recommend you read the book yourself and make up your own mind about the three issues I just described (and the other fascinating history and analysis Ann offers). Ann carefully documents her case and backs up everything she says.
