Rating: Summary: Questions for Coulter, some to start Review: A question and answer session with the author: I will provide the questions, she can log-on and provide the answers. I cannot cover the whole time-period in question so I'll stick to the post WW era of Truman and McCarthy.Realistically what was Truman to do when the Russians remained in some of the occupied territories after WWII? We had just finished a WW, should we have gone straight back to war? Would that have been wise? Would Americans have tolerated it? Would it have been good for the economy? Would it have been good for that generation of Americans, many of whom had already died? Is the aurthor aware that there the two best defenses against communism are 1) a strong economy for ALL Americans and 2) a free society, ie. a free society where people can express their political views and where we actually defen the constitution? Did Joe McCarthy honor the Constitution and its right to free speech and freedom to associate? Did Joe McCarthy bring even one bona fide communist spy to justice? If not, how can we say his approach was "right"? In what way was he "right"? How mant totally innocent people's lives were destroyed by McCarthy's methods? After WWII, the economy fo Europe was in a shambles. Does the author agree that rebuilding that economy was an important objective and that such economic rebuilding helped to prevent a spread of communism? Is the author familiar with the Marshall plan? Does the author have any idea how unpopular the Korean war was? Does she realize that after initial successes we were driven back by Chinese troups? Does she really think we should have gone to a full-out war with China and that we could have won that war? My father always said you cannot argue with a liar and Ann Coulter is just that. Like all these idealogues she decides what to believe and then picks and chooses what "facts" she wants to use to support her emotionally-driven belief system, in this case the emtions are hatred and anger and she cares not for America, its constitution or its inhabitants. There is no objectivity here. If you want honesty, or balance, best to buy another book.
Rating: Summary: Good Entertainment...Bad Politics Review: Don't be fooled by the list of references and the bibliography at the end. Ann Coulter is adept at weaving a complex web of abused sources to form something resembling a coherent argument. If you're really paying attention, it's easy to see why not just liberals, but many conservatives (her boss David Horowitz, Andrew Sullivan, Cathy Young, Dorothy Rabinowitz etc.) and even her own sources (Ron Radosh most importantly) have trashed this book. This book needs some context for the laymen, so please read ABOUT this book too. You will be a skeptic by the second chapter. If you're enamored by the "facts" poke around on Google and you'll find some (sometimes questionable) Ann Coulter fact-checking sites. You might not be so floored by this book. This book really shows Ms. Coulter for what she is: an entertainer. She absconds with anything resembling a scholastic study so the mass audience can indulge themselves in their own narrow ideology. Historical and political reality does not resemble what Coulter is selling. Please don't buy it.
Rating: Summary: Truths about communists...oops, democrats Review: Another brilliant book by Ann....highly recommended to anyone with an unbiased and open mind. The conservative answer to hateful name-calling bigots like Paul Begala
Rating: Summary: Not worth it Review: I don't think I need to outline my reasons for not enjoying this book. Let's just say it goes too far and makes herself look terrible and ignorant. She's the conservative version of Michael Moore.
Rating: Summary: Tom M from McHenry, IL Review: This is an excellent history lesson for anyone who has been force fed the liberal establisments version of the cold war in public schools over the past fifty plus years. Ann Coulter is not only sharp with her facts, but, she writes with flair and wit. This book is an outstanding follow up to "Slander". Why does this women not have her own radio or TV show?
Rating: Summary: A voice for the Right Review: A strong challenge to the media's one-sided liberal rhetoric. Ann is the most adept I've seen at voicing the conservative position, and she is able to provide humor along the way.
Rating: Summary: A Work Long Overdue Review: For a long time, I have been wondering whether a book like this will ever be published. It is about time and of great meaning to me personally as the activities of many individuals exposed in this book directly affected my family's fate. During and after WWII, the story of my family's suffering under the Soviets (along with those of one and a half million others who were deported from Eastern Poland and sent to Siberia during WWII) was suppressed by the American government. These deportees were expected to perform slave labor in the gulags until they died but that changed when Germany invaded the Soviet Union. They were released to form an army - Anders' Army, which fought victoriously along side the Allies in the Italian Theatre. But they were betrayed at Yalta and became an army without a nation. To add insult to injury, the Western governments and media hushed their story. It is only in the past few years that we, the children of Anders' Army's soldiers have learned the specifics of this betrayal; the Roosevelt administration was infested with Soviet spies including Alger Hiss who was instrumental at Yalta. The American government did everything possible to keep the truth of the Soviet nightmare from the American people. This included the testimonies of Anders' men. It was Dean Acheson who killed a bill before the American Congress to give the men of Anders' Army special immigration rights into the United States and it was the State Department under Truman who refused to let ships full of Polish refugees from Siberia enter American soil. To this day, the media ignores our story and it remains unknown to the American and British people. My thanks to Ann Coulter for revealing these "historical figures" for what they really were.
Rating: Summary: More Hateful than Rush... Review: ...with less humor I might add. The nerve of this woman to readily label people is amazing. We don't need people like her. Ok, I will stoop to her level and use a label: SCUM
Rating: Summary: At long last, have you no shame, ma'am? Review: Who is the audience for this book, anyway? Talk about preaching to an unholy choir! I saw Lou Dobbs attempt to interview her last night about this book, and she dismissed any point Lou tried to address with her favorite activity, "liberal" bashing. Only, who she considers a liberal is anyone who disagrees with her and her cabal. A shrill and illogical commentator who doesn't deserve serious attention.
Rating: Summary: Need more evidence? Review: Ann Coulter's basic premise is that liberals love something/anything more than their country, and there is ample evidence to prove it. But if you confront them with the truth, they wheedle, whine, change the subject and attack you personally. Kinda like the negative reviews below.
