Rating: Summary: BIGGER THAN WATERGATE Review: Watergate, in essence, was about a third-rate burgulary. It was about one political party spying on another. Who cares about that? The real crime was the coverup, perjury, hush money, et. etc. As this book so clearly demonstrates, the crimes of the Bush Administration are far more serious than anything the Nixon Administration did. The most important responsiblity a president has is to decide on whether or not to take us to war. And George W. Bush took us to war based on very flimsy evidence and outright lies. He took us to war because he wanted to. Clinton lied about sex. Nixon lied about a burgulary. Warren Harding lied about a land deal. No charge is more serious than the one currently before the Bush Administration. As a direct result of Bush Administration lies, Nearly 700 of our bravest and finest are dead with no end in sight. Countless innocent Iraqi men, women, and children are also dead. Impeachment proceedings should begin now.
Rating: Summary: Un-patriotic Review: Garbage such as this simply makes me ill. We have troops at war, risking their lives to defend our freedem, while people like John Dean sit at home in their recliner chairs making money by taking shots at our commander and chief. Anyone who purchase books such as this should consider moving from the US, because they don't deserve to be called an American. Freedom of speech is most certainly an important right given to us, but with that right comes responsibility... and fabricating such garbage as this is a major abuse of that responsibility. George W. Bush is no Ronald Reagon (easily one of our best presidents ever), but he's certainly doing a much better job than most anyone else would or could. Our country must defend itself and must defend the world from tyrants like Hitler, Hussan, etc. If you let a tyrant grow into more and more power, or give a tyrant time to get weapons of horror, then eventually they will use them and we will have much larger problems than our current war to deal with... and millions rather than hundreds of Americans will pay the ultimate price. Of course guys like John Dean most certainly won't be out their paying that price... they will likely be sitting at home slandering our leaders to make a buck for themselves.
Rating: Summary: Shocking! Review: Once I started reading this book I could not put it down and am now rereading it to absorb more fully the amount of documented information and implications it brings. John Dean has done an excellent job of presenting America with information that should have been investigated and outed during the 2000 presidential campaign. If this was Bill Clinton, the Republicans would have crucified him. One can accept the fact that slimy characters enter the business world and politics for personal gain, as disdainful as it may be. But to see Bush and Cheney slice and dice those who stand in their way, to see how their ideology and personal agendas have seriously affected how government is now operating, and worst of all, to see that they are arrogant and shameless about their actions, is so very disturbing that I, like Dean, cannot believe the media let all this powerfully revealing history of these two men go unreported. Are Bush's career as a failed businessman and Cheney's business dealings important? They certainly are for their charcters are revealed. Is how the way these men campaigned important? Definitely. It shows just how dirty they can be and what they will resort to in order to win. How has their secrecy and stonewalling affected the way our government works and will Americans be free to truly trust their presidents again? If one wants to know what type of people are overseeing our country, this book is a must read. Worse Than Watergate is supported by books written by Richard Clark, Paul O'Neill, and a new book by Bob Woodward, vindicating critics of our president and vice-president. For those who refuse to believe Bush can do no wrong, nothing will convince them. However, those with open minds, who are sitting the fence as to whom to vote for this November, who have a need to know, and are concerned with the future of our country, Dean's book will surely be an eye opener. "If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. It is true you may fool all the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all the time." Abraham LincolnP.S. After rereading this book, I took more notice of small details I missed the first time. I especially took notice of all the Republicans and conservatives who are also very concerned with the Bush-Cheney cabal. They are not happy with the secrecy, the stonewalling, the diminishing of Congress's power and authority, the control and flow of information, the distortion of facts, blatant intimidation of opposition and smearing of reputations, and so on. People should be afraid, very afraid of what this administration is doing. If Dean did not document and footnote his information, if he was not familiar with how Washington works, if he did not study our country's presidency, if he did not suffer the punishment for his role in Watergate, then I would tend to doubt because all of this seems so inconceivable. Bush is a president like no other in American history. He will be remembered for breaking federal laws and working against the constitution of the United States. Our founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves.
Rating: Summary: The title is true.....and strikes fear in my heart Review: I recieved this book and read it in one night. I couldn't put it down. What attracted it to me was the fact that John Dean wrote it; I was a freshman in college when Watergate hit, and remember his young countenance vividly as he testified. As I read this current book, the overwhelming thought was, " this guy should know! He has seen it from the inside, and can recognize the warning signs!". I have been frightened ever since the fiasco with the election and the "hanging chads". When you step back and look at situations purely, cleanly, without clutter, what do you have..... A man who wants to avenge his Daddy; an oil man who wants to tap into the motherlode, both in the Middle East and in Alaska; a system that knows how to create smoke-screens to cloud the true issues and that tosses out red-herrings to deflect the people from the truth. At one time I was all for electronic voting, but now I see that this would be a major disaster, given what happened in Florida. No paper trail! John Dean has written a book that presents a most compelling case. We must be ever vigilant, and not stop asking questions of this administration.
Rating: Summary: Freedom for Security Review: Thomas Jefferson once said, "Those who sacrifice their freedon in order to gain security will get, nor deserve either". Potent words for today's times. If anyone out there feels safer because we invaded Iraq and deposed Hussein has their heads buried in the sand and continue to be blindly led by the most obnoxious and arrogant president to ever be elected (and I use that term very loosely). We are occupying an Arab state - plain and simple. Would we sit idly by if China were to invade us and depose Bush? (they actually could do that - we don't have enough troops left in the states to defend us). Stop worrying about what's going to happen on American Idol or the Apprentice next and take a long, hard look at what Bush's motives (and his gang of thieves) is. Before it's too late.
Rating: Summary: ALL PARTISAN AND NO FACTS! Review: All this is a bunch of garbage. John Dean hasn't worked to for President Bush so what does he know? All of this is partisan and Dean seems to have a vendetta against Republican presidents. It must be that post Watergate trauma.
Rating: Summary: Neoneros take the White House Review: As a former 30 yr republican who got out of the party when Bush choose Cheney i got it Get it! will expose this fraud of a President you bet get it! Its worth every cent
Rating: Summary: Though this Country had some brains... Review: Let me just start this review with a quote: "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling that thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." .... John Stuart Mill. It occurs to me that there are quite a lot of people in this country who fit that description. Most of them will vote for John Kerry in November. And not because he is the best man for the job. I mean so far his plan is to raise taxes, "create" 10 million jobs,(your stupid if you think government creates jobs) and treat terriorst as a law enforment problem.(yeah that really worked well under Clinton didnt it?). No you will vote for him because you could care less what he stands for all you know is you HATE Bush. Why? And dont give me this supreme court put him there junk. Read the law and what happened. Dems in FL wanted a recount in certain counties ONLY. The supreme court said if you want a recount, you have to do the state along with absentee ballets. Dems didnt want that so they stopped pressing the issue. Plus it is hard to imagine there are people in this country that are so blinded by hatred for someone who has prevented another attact on our soil and brought the fight to them. But hey you dont care as long as Bush is out of office in 2004. So my review is this, if your a Bush hater, you will love this book. If your not, dont waste your money. If your under 30 and not a liberal, you dont have a heart. If your over 30 and not a conservative, you dont have a brain.
Rating: Summary: Detailed and compelling Review: I've read many reviewers who insist on revisiting Watergate and damning John Dean as a way to dismiss his arguments. To that I say that "judge not lest ye shall be judged." Dean has a right to articulate his thoughts and those who wish have a right to listen. Nuff said!! As for this book, it presents a detailed review of the secret lives of our current leaders--Bush and Cheney. They are highlighted as crafty media manipulators who appear to be one thing but are really something else. For example, Bush and Cheney speak of platitudes toward the enviroment but are really wanting to drill in the artic wilderness for oil. John Dean is alarmed at what is going on and, after reading the book, I am too. His discussion on the leaking of the identity of the wife of Ambassador Wilson (she was a CIA operative) was riveting. John Dean predicted that there will be a HUGE scandal in the Bush Administration over this leak and from what the media is starting to report this may be the case. Overall, this is a good look at the Bush/Cheney secrecy. My only complaint is that the writing is somewhat dry at times but the book is still worth reading.
Rating: Summary: A government run amuck Review: Ever since the Supreme Court selected George Bush to occupy the White House, our form of government has been at risk. As John Dean so compellingly lays out in his book, this administration's deception and secrecy are indeed far worse than the misdeeds of Richard Nixon. After reading this book, I'm not nearly as concerned about "foreign" terrorists as I am about threat that Bush/Cheney pose to the very soul of the U.S.
