Rating: Summary: Brown Skin Review: After seeing Dr. Taylor on a talk show discussing her book, I ordered a copy. What a disappointment! She mentioned on the talk show that this book was targeted for people with "brown skin" from various ethnic backgrounds whose unique skin coloring, hair, nail issues are often overlooked in the "mainstream" media. She glossed over this topic big time and I found the information bland, the pictures basic, and a lot of the same information repeated throughout the book. Unfortunately she is not telling the "intelligent and well informed" reader anything new. Her marketing spin is that she is a Doctor who happens to be a woman of color.

Rating: Summary: WOW! Finally, a book devoted to women of color!!! Review: Dr. Taylor offers advice for many of the common problems we people of color have with our skin, hair, and nails. Her book is concise and to-the point. Most importantly, for us working mothers, her tips for remedies and maintainence do not add significant time to our daily regimens. Thank you, Dr. Taylor, for this informative and essential resource!

Rating: Summary: A must have for people of color Review: I am a black women who decided to get my look together before I turned 30. I dont have tremendous skin problems but I just want my skin to look youthful and vivacious. I found out how to get that type of skin by reading Dr. Taylor's book. It was so helpful that I could have cried. The section on how to remove/prevent the dark marks that are sometimes left behind after having a blemish was exceptional. In only a month, my skin has never looked or felt better. I dont feel the need to wear makeup anymore. She also gives very good product recommendations based upon your skin type. You can tell that her advise comes from research and experience. I highly recommend this buy.

Dr. Taylor is a leader in the industry and every member of the family would benefit from reading this most important book. Congratulations Dr. Taylor for taking the time to set the record straight about the myths and misunderstanding about our hair textures, skin and nails. This is a must read for men who are now more than ever concerned about their appearance and good health. Alfred Fornay, Author, Editor, Cosmetic Executive and Image Consultant.
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! Review: I do NOT recommend that you buy this book. Dr. Taylor is very good at promoting herself and appearing on television, but I do not believe that she is better than any other dermatologist at treating the skin of people of color. She is more style than substance, I suggest that you SAVE YOUR MONEY and check this book out of the library if you have the time to read it but don't spend any money on this.
Rating: Summary: I am so impressed! Review: I found this book to be easy to read (not a lot of dermatologist language) and with helpful advice. I gave five stars because of the accessibility of the products Dr. Taylor prescribes, most generic brands or simple home-remedies, that are affordable and also because she didn't push me to make an appointment or to buy expensive, designer products. Most solutions are common sense, but with a little extra advice and steps to follow that makes purchasing the book worthwhile. Dr. Taylor gives examples of actual clients that makes me feel comfortable that I'm not the only one going through problems with my hair and skin. My husband was also able to get sound advice for his acne-prone, oily skin. There are also helpful hints for children...there's something in this book for everyone to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails!
Rating: Summary: It's about time! Review: I got the book and have already used it as a reference. The beauty and skin care industry ALWAYS forget about the details and differences in brown-skinned women, even when they're actually selling TO them. Selling titanium and zinc lip balms with good SPFs but leave white grit on the lips...or give bad advice about using skin lighteners forever (Paula Begoun) when they can make us darker after too much use. This book covers all the questions about the weird growths on our parents' skin that we were too polite to ask about. I would've given this book five stars but it needs pictures and/illustrations. If enough colored girls buy this, they'll make a second edition and maybe they'll pretty it up with pictures and a better cross-reference and recommended product list in an appendix.
