Rating: Summary: Good for beginners Review: This was the first Wicca book I had read. I remember that fall just a few short years ago. But had I known then what I know now. I would not have read it. Some people may like the spoon-fed type of information Cunningham presents but if you really want to learn about Wicca. I recomend Wicca: The Old Religion in the New Millennium by Vivianna Crowley instead. I'm not bad-mouthing this book, however. It is very good for beginners. It explains things in a very simple easy to understand manner. But you have to make your own decision.
Rating: Summary: Essential, enjoyable, excellent Review: This is THE best basic book on Wicca. I have read 150+ books on witchcraft, and Scott's is undoubtedly the best. Sound advice, well written, lots of fun, but plenty of serious work, too. I have been a witch for 20+ years. If I could choose only one book to give to new witches, it would be this one. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: disappointment Review: I am very disappointed on this book. I bought it for two reasons. First, it is Scott Cunningham's. Second, I needed a book to farther my knowledge in Wicca. It presented less ideas or feedback than the other books I've read on the same subject. The best thing on this book is the statement that one can approach Wicca individually. I believe that the younger generation or the teens will be more irritated at this book. It does not contain good spells. It does not teach or give ideas how to integrate crystals, herbs, oils, etc. while doing a spell or ritual. Teen-agers will have more participation in this craft if it shows the adventures in spell or rituals. Nevertheless, I think that Witches should still buy other books that Mr. Cunningham has written for more knowledge involving Witchcraft.
Rating: Summary: A great book for anyone with more than a passing fancy.... Review: I feel that this is a must have for anyone wishing to be a solitary practitioner... it has everything you need to know to get you started and pointed down the right path... I Highly suggest this book to anyone interested in wicca.! as are all of Cunningham's books..
Rating: Summary: A TRUE GEM Review: This was the first book that I read, and I read it from cover to finish without putting it down, it is full of information for the solo practitioner and straight to the point, he doesn't go all around the world to get there. I found this book much more useful than the Silver RavenWolf series, and a definite must for the new practitioner.
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: this is an excellent guide for the beginners, scott shows us that we dont need a coven to practice wicca, and that we can practice it effectively alone. i enjoyed his section on hand gestures,he has alot of stuff u can put into your book of shadows
Rating: Summary: Pure brilliance for anyone interested Review: This is an excellent book, not only for those interested in practicing Wicca but those who are just interested in the subject. It gives a good introduction into the craft, emphasising the need for balance, harmony and bringing Wicca into all aspects of life. There are recipes, descriptions of ritual tools and uses, rituals for self initiation, strong reminders of the Witches Rede and the Threefold Law - this is a superb book, and a worthy introduction.
Rating: Summary: most effective Review: I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN, I READ IT COVER TO COVER THE FIRST TIME. I USE IT AS A REFERENCE GUIDE IN ALL MY WORKINGS. IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING OUT IN WICCA, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. I HAVE QUITE AN EXTENSIVE LIBRARY OF WICCA BOOKS AND THIS ONE IS THE MOST USED. THIS BOOK IS FOR ANY AGE LEVEL, MY CHILDREN USE THIS AS THEIR REFERENCE GUIDE AS WELL. IT'S A SHAME WE NO LONGER HAVE MR. CUNNINGHAM IN THIS WORLD WITH US, HIS KIND OF TEACHINGS ARE ESENTIAL IN THIS DAY AND AGE.
Rating: Summary: A must have for the beginning practicioner! Review: When I first started studying Wicca, this book was lent to me. I recommend this to anyone interested in the craft. It is very well written and has a lot of useful information. Scott Cunningham is by far my favorite author, giving credit where credit is due.
Rating: Summary: A Very Helpful Primer Review: This book fell into my hands at the perfect time. It was the perfect primer - with down-to-earth, plain language. Scott Cunningham freely uses what works from various traditions, rather than insisting on one particular tradition. Complete with sample rituals, as well as guidelines on how to write your own, this book is a must-have to those who practice, or for those who simply want to know!
