Rating: Summary: Excellent guide for the beginner Review: Few people can reach out to the minds of seeking solitaries as Scott Cunningham can. This book is a magnificent starting point for any Wiccan starting to take his/her first baby steps in the Craft.
Rating: Summary: For those approaching WIcca for the first time... Review: This book is probably the best place to start. Scott "holds your hand" while explaining the basics of Witchcraft and Pagan worship. So many books come at you with pentagrams flashing, spellcasting-a-plenty, or they are presented in such an arcane manner that it fails to present any clarity for the newcomer. This book is clear and straight forward. It is sometimes opinionated, but you are given the freedom to form your own thoughts and feelings about his descriptions of the Gods and Wiccan practice. Every seasoned Witch that I know mentions Scott to inquirey minds. I do too. If you are at a point where you "think" Wicca is for you, but you still feel like you're afraid to take the first step, open this book, take Scott's hand, and walk together towards the truth about this beautiful religion.
Rating: Summary: Informative and Practical, with a Bland Delivery. Review: Scott Cunningham's "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practicioner" is usually hailed as the "must-read" information for the solitary young neophyte to the ways of paganism or wicca. To be truthful, I agree. The information herein is as complete as you can get in an introductory book, and only suffers for a lack of style. While full of the "what and how" of the faith of Wicca, what is missing from this book is some sense of inspiration, or perhaps put better, something to make it a little less dry. The book often reads like a repetition of facts more than a book about faith and magick. All the basics are present: Esbats, tools, Sabbats, and the overall general structure of the faith of wicca. It would be a good book to set the fears of uninformed parents aside, should their children become involved with Wicca. I do suggest that anyone who is just starting out grab this book. On the notion of merit towards teaching wicca alone, I'd rank this at a four or five star book, but slogging through it is apt to be a bit boring, and that cost it some stars for delivery.
Rating: Summary: A helpful book Review: I found this book extremely informative and interesting. It helped me answer questions thast I had not only about Wiccan philosophy, but also about my own beliefs. It was not only useful as a referance book, but was also easy to read and very interesting.
Rating: Summary: Invaluable knowledge Review: Although this (as well as the author's other books) has been described as "too much sweetness & light" by many, it's a priceless collection of knowledge and an excellent foundation for both the spiritual and practical applications of Witchcraft. The original charges of the Goddess and God are incredibly beautiful, and very spiritually uplifting. This is especially a terrific resource for beginning witches or those who are just wanting to learn about Paganism in general.
Rating: Summary: Insightful! Review: I think this book is great for beginners and advanced Wiccan practitioners. Many people believe that you can only be a true Wiccan when you belong to a coven,by reading this book you can see that that's not the case. After all,who initiated the first Wiccan? My mother for instance, has been on the Wiccan path for over a decade. She was in a coven for many years and now she prefers to practice alone.I have been a Wiccan for a short period but I also prefer to work alone,so for this reason I enjoy reading books such as this one.Even for those who are in a coven I think they will also find it insighful.Blessed be!
Rating: Summary: on your own then get this Review: i believe i don't stand alone when i say that making stolitary rituals from group ones can be a pain in the [neck] with this it's not nesscary all you have to do is read this it is a solitary guide to wicca
Rating: Summary: wicca a guide for the solitary practiioner Review: scott cunningham never fails to impress with his experiance and knowledge, a good volume for the solitary practitioner.
Rating: Summary: Ho hum... another cookie cutter book Review: eh... it wasn't really a bad book, but it wasn't exemplary either. If you have a few beginner's guides to Wicca, this book will be a rehash of everything else. Granted it revolves around those of us who are not involved in a coven, and that is nice, but you can revise and edit rituals to conform to your solitary practice. If you don't have any other beginner's books, and are looking for a place to start, this is a wonderful book for you to start with, because chances are you are on your own and need something geared towards solitary lifestyle. If you have other books, though, and are of a creative spirit, use your imagination and let the Goddess be your guide, and you will have no problem adapting what you already have to suit your solitary needs.
Rating: Summary: A girl who knew nothing Review: Im a 17 year old teenager who is taking a World religons class. I knew of the Wiccan religon but raised in a Christian home i knew nothing past the salem witch trials about it. I was assigned and essay (the title was ) Wicca: a religon for the modern western women?. Mr.Cunninghams book was incredibly insightful and helpful! I now, not only consider myself somewhat educated on the topic of the Wiccan faith from his book, butI find myself indulging in more research apart from the essay to further my knowledge . I would like to reccomend that anyone with an open mind to buy his book it is well worth it
