Summary: Deceiving Title but Still the Best Beginner Work!
Review: This is an essential book to anybody who is a beginner to wicca (or any notions involving witchcraft), and serves as a plain language FAQ to give a VERY broad overview of the Craft, and to dispel the wealth of misconceptions and misinformation surrounding it. Both theoretically speaking and "mechanically" speaking, this book provides a great general foundation. Its brief introduction to tools, symbols, rituals, various foods, and widely accepted principals, make up a good bare bones familiarity with the basics involved in the Craft. The questions presented within force the reader to be honest with himself about his true motivations for his interest in the Craft, and may help to either weaken or solidify his interest, so for those not sure about whether or not this path is for them, this is a valuable read. Another great thing about it is that it stresses the importance of doing what's right for you and drawing your own conclusions about what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior in this path. This is extremely important to remember, and lends more credibility to Cunningham, who takes neither an authoritative nor arrogant approach to his teachings about the Craft, unlike many of his co-authors on the subject.

I have heard many more experienced practitioners dismiss this work as facile and unsophisticated, and in one respect, this is justified. One already familiar with wicca who wishes to gain insights into practicing by himself will likely not benefit from reading this book, despite the fact that it asserts to give insight into solitary practice. It would have been much better named to clarify that it was meant for the self-starter and solitary beginner rather than an already-established practitioner learning to enhance his practice as a solitary. Contrarily, I have seen many who assert themselves to possess a certain level of knowledge and experience they do not have because they haven't taken the time to learn the basics, even if some of it seemed mundane or boring at times. All ritual and spellwork should be taken very seriously, and the serious student should be more than willing to start at the beginning to gain as much knowledge and as many perspectives as possible.

Summary: An engaging and very informative book!!
Review: For the longest time I had only Raymond Bucklands Complete Book of Witchcraft (which is good, but a bit dull), and a book on the Fae. From what I had read from Bucklands book, Wicca was very structured and firm. When I got Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, I found otherwise. Cunningham makes it clear that you aren't going to be slapped on the hand and told "shame!" if you don't follow everything that a book says. Actually, he strongly encourages changing rituals to suit your needs. From reading this book I also gained so much knowlage about the Goddess and God, and aspects of the religion itself that I had no idea existed. And, no, the book isn't all about worshipping and what not. There is information on stones, herbs, tools, Sabbats, you name it! This book is so informative and...well...down right interesting! In fact, I got so engaged that I read the whole book in one day, frantically copying this and that into my book of shadows. I highly recommend this book to any Wiccan that needs a complete and concise guide. Blessed be!

Summary: Very good, sensitive tone...if a little generalized.
Review: This book is an excellent starter, though I would suggest following it up with another book that will describe Wicca more in depth, such as "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" by SilverRavenWolf (though beware her later books...they don't call her $ilver for nothing), "Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft" by Raymond Buckland, or "21st Century Wicca", by Jennifer Hunter.

Summary: PRETTY GOOD!
Review: This book could have been better, but I am glad I got it. (It was on sale! heeheehee!)I wouldn't have gotten it for full price though. It doesn't have to many spells or recipes in it and that would be the one thing I would change if I could change it. It is a good book to re-read from time to time and I still look in it If things in my memory get hazy. I am PROBABLY not going to get the second one unless it looks better than the first or I am recommended it by a friend. This was the first book on wicca that I ever got, and I found it by acciddent(SP?) when I was looking up wizards on the internet trying to find the name of a book I was ordering, and I came up on the Wizards window and there was a book section and this was in it. I am very glad that I got the thing and you would be too, but there are probably better books out there for you.

Summary: One of the best begginner books on Wicca available
Review: Cunningham does an excellent job introducing Wicca to the beginner (also has some good info for the experienced as well). This is probably the best text for a beginner to read as it presents Wicca in a straightforward way, emphasizing ethics and the fact that there is no one true way throughout the entire book. As a result it is a very down to earth and easy to read explanation of Wicca.

Summary: Great for solitary beginners..............
Review: ........I'm brand new to Wicca and Scott Cunningham's book offered a great introduction to the craft. He reviews basic Wiccan beliefs and facts (from the origins of Wicca, reverence for the God and the Goddess, the concept of karma, the 21 holidays, reincarnation, magick, a sample Book of Shadows and much more!!). Everything is here that you need to know as a beginner! Additionally, Scott emphasizes that you do not have to belong to a coven to be a Wiccan and he also makes clear how Wicca is so tolerant as a religion. So many options are open to the practitioner. He never tells the reader what to do, but instead offers the guidance and encouragement that one needs to find his or her own best path. Best book on Wicca I've read (and I've read about ten so far).

Summary: He raised me
Review: Ahh...what can I say...when I bring people into the Wiccan world, this is one of the first books I encourage them to read. I love Scott's very basic, no fanciness needed approach to Witchcraft. His style is very good, in particular with Witches who are still finding their footing. Being a practicing Witch for over 9 years now, I frequently refer to his books for additional guidance and approaches. Thank you, Scott, for the helping hand and Blessed Be.

Summary: A wonderful resource for the beginning Wiccan
Review: Pick your path, and if it's Wicca, get this book. Then again, the first two chapters are wonderful reads for almost any type of Pagan, so even if you're simply researching paths, at least check it out.

Summary: Great Book
Review: This book is by far the best book that I have ever read. I am new to the craft and Cunningham has a way of welcoming you to the religion that is almost unheard of. I reccomend this book to anyone interested in a better way of life and for relief from the Dogmatic society that we are sorounded by today. You wll have few to no questions once you have taken Cunnighams advice on this Wonderful Religion. [....]

Summary: Great start for the beginner
Review: When i started studying wicca i looked at information on the internet. This was the first book i bought to start my path. I found it extremely informative and helpful. It fueled my new direction. The best thing is that it is easy to read. It is written to be understood by those who are new to all the concepts and lingo of the religion. There is a great gollasery in the back to help with nay terms you do not understand. i recomend this book for anyone interested in taking the wiccan path.
