Summary: half depressing/half enlightening
Review: On the verge of 30, I started to seek out books to help me survive the crisis of it all. Judging from the reviews, this book looked like it would fit the bill. It did somewhat...I say that because, well, it actually almost didn't.

I found the first half of this book to be depressing, reminding me that I wasn't a young doe anymore...ugh! But, the second half helped to redeem the book in my eyes, explaining why 30 was so great. You can't tell that this half and half action will happen by reading the chapter titles, etc., but it does.

Also - keep in mind that this book is categorized as humor/self help, and it is just that, emphasis on humor. If you are looking for a psychology perspective, professional advice or something like that - you won't find that here. The only credentials that the author has are that she once turned 30 herself.

This book is an attempt to make light of it all - but I found it to be quite depressing at times! I think I am now even more scared about turning 30 than I ever was! But Julie Tilsner does help you to realize that you are not the only one who is going through this.

Summary: Outstanding! The perfect book to shake off that funk!
Review: READ IT, READ IT, READ IT!!!! If you've felt THE BIG 3-0 hanging over your head like a black cloud but were embarrassed to discuss it, this is the book for you! Likewise if you're in your late 20's and haven't been happy with your life, but can't quite narrow down the reason why to one definitive factor. Read this book, it will probably be useful in helping you articulate what the matter is, as well as giving you some fun but constructive criticism about how to get off your duff and MOVE ON!!! Pick it up on a Saturday, settle in in your favorite place with a big mug of something hot, and prepare to get empathy, analysis, laugh therapy, and a good kick in the pants so you can look forward to the next phase of your life!

Summary: Fluffy but right on
Review: Several friends told me about this book and one of them gaveit to me for my 29th birthday. I generally liked it a lot, and even laughed out loud in some parts. Some parts, though, were not well thought out.(like there needed to be a lot more about your sexual peak!) But overall, I think it was pretty funny and addresses alot of the issues women our age have to go through these days. It's a good gift.

Summary: A hilarious guide to all the joys and pitfalls of turning 30
Review: Squandered potential. Commitment-phobe dorks. Your biological clock. The feeling that you need to figure our what you really want to do when you grow up--and soon. There's no getting around it: turning 30 sucks. But the ride is a lot easier with the wise and oh-so witty advice of Julie Tilsner, who has "been there, done that" and was way more pathetic about it than you'll ever be. In this uproarious guide, Tilsner proves once and for all that when it comes to life, jobs, sex, money, and friendships, turning 30 is the best thing that can happen to a chick. Really. Trust us.

"Checklist of items to help you survive your 30th birthday: malt liquor, five horny basketball players, and this book." --Pagan Kennedy

"Armed with this witty and wry handbook, the heave over the 30s hump will never strike the fear of God in any chick again. Tilsner is a cruise director for all of us on that fateful voyage."--Courtney Weaver, "Unzipped" columnist in Salon Magazine

Summary: Targeted at a small demographic group
Review: The Reader from Athens said it very well, and I agree completely with every part of her review. I was barely worried about turning 30 until I read this book. Let that be a word of warning to potential readers - now it's as if all these other people's fears of turning 30 have been implanted in my brain. And the author's reassurances fell flat with me - too many were based on just some chatty conversations with the author's many "girlfriends". I think there's some helpful information in the book, and it's often interesting to hear about other people's experiences - but I didn't like the author's implication that we're all "chicks" hoping to get "preggers" before the dreadful age of 30.
