Summary: Maria Burrell is a saint!
Review: I had tears running down my cheeks (on the bus!) while reading about Paul going to Paris for the Princess's body. Being a royal servant is not a life I would like, I would have told each of them, including Diana, where to go on more than one occasion. Well, I suppose there would have been just the one occasion and then they would have booted me out the door. But you can really tell that the author adored his job, loved the Princess and was deeply loyal to all the Royal Family. Why the family objects to this book is beyond me when there has been some real schlock out there since Diana died. But please, Paul, if you ever read this - thank your lucky stars for Maria! She is the true princess in your life!

Summary: An Honest Portrayal by a Truly Devoted Man
Review: Thank you Paul Burrell. You have written a wonderful tribute to a woman the world will never forget. Princess Diana was very special to many people. I commend you for your strong sense of integrity. You should feel very proud of this book. I will add this to my collection. As a reader of every single book ever written about Princess Diana, I believe yours is the warmest book I have read. I wish you and your family all the best.

Summary: Good Book
Review: I loved this book by Paul Burrell. You can tell how much he loved the Princess. She was so kind hearted and a loving person.
I dont know why there was so much to do on the tv about this book. It was wonderful.

Summary: A Wonderful book
Review: I am so glad Paul wrote this book. I found nothing in it that would make me think less of the Princess. In fact, it makes you love her more. She was a wonderful person with a big heart. It makes you want to protect her too. I only wish that Princes Diana would have let go, just once, and given Camilla what she deserved. I am sure it wouldn't have changed the outcome of things, but you just hate to see someone so wonderful trampled on by someone so undeserving and get away with it....but Diana was a Princes till the end.

Summary: A Royal Duty gives insight to the "Humanistic Royals"
Review: I just finished reading "A Royal Duty". Mr. Burrell gave us insight to how the royals lived. He shared his story in an appropriate fashion. Paul was always respectful to the Monarchy. I feel he sheds light on the endearing humanistic side of all the royal family. It was not a - tell - all type of book. I despise those books and would never continue reading such rubbish. The media has directed the public's opinion of what to think of the royals in such a disgraceful manner. Now Paul has set the record straight on how Lady Di revered the Queen and Prince Phillip whom she called mum and pa. I don't think anyone who wrote the negative comments about "The Butler who told all " has read the book. Mr. Burrell brought forth clarity on Princess Diana's character, values, and spirit. He was asked by the princess to keep some of her private letters and drafted memos to him for record on important matters. He knows all the truths and does not go beyond what is appropriate. He remains to this day as her loyal servant that has kept her secrets safe. Paul you deserve all the happiness in the world - go after it!

Summary: It's rivetting, but isn't the author just a tad creepy?
Review: There is something very creepy about Paul Burrell's attachment to Princess Diana. Burrell abandoned all notions of role and propriety, and Diana erred in converting this servant into a pathetic combination of worshipper and doting puppy dog.

In spite of the author's flawed personality, the book is rivetting. We see the whole epic tale from the perspective of someone who was extremely close - too close - to Diana. The book also covers Burrell's trial, in which he appears to have been framed, before the prosectors abruptly dropped all charges. It's hard to believe that the Queen woke up one morning, after Burrell's trial had been front-page news for weeks, and realized "Oh, I just remembered a chat with Burrell that will exonerate him." On the other hand, Burrell had lost all objectivity and behaved in a self-destructive way after Diana's death. Apparently he took it upon himself to take Diana's intimate letters home for 'safekeeping,' so that Diana's mother would not shred them - hardly something likely to be in a servant's job description.

It is odd that Princes William and Harry have been so negative about this book, because it is extraordinarily positive about Princess Diana, the Queen, and Prince Philip. Burrell praises Diana on every page. Only the Spencer family and Prince Charles come off looking badly. Burrell repeatedly states his admiration and respect for the monarchy, but the book as a whole is a horrible indictment of the monarchy as an institution well past its sell-by date.

Summary: But Did He Tell All?
Review: I am afraid I agree with A READER from BRIDGEVILLE. This book was somewhat of a letdown after all the hype it received. That being said, let me hasten to add that I did enjoy it. It did give me a closer look to Diana and "life" on the inside....and I liked the perspective of someone that was actually there. I was and still am an admirer of Diana's and the world is a little dimmer without her in it. However, I was hoping there would be more detail in some instances. There were several times when Mr. Burrell said things to the effect of "That is private." or "I won't go into further detail." and, let's face it, if you are going to write a 'tell-all' book, then , by gosh, tell all!

Summary: disappointing
Review: I had eagerly anticipated the release of this book and must
admit that after reading it I was very disappointed. Based
on several pre-publication interviews that I had seen Paul
Burrell give, I was expecting the content to reveal new and
controversial information regarding Diana and the Windsors.
This proved not to be the case. Burrell simply took previously known and published information and retold such. His complete devotion to her is obvious but this proves to be a detriment to the reader since his objectivity is impaired. I wanted to get
a clearer picture of the real Diana but this wasn't the case.
Her unquestionable love for her children and wonderful charity work was written about extensively but her flaws and life difficulties were minimized. I was hoping that a close insider
like Burrell would have been able to provide the definitive and
balanced portrait we have yet to have on this complex woman but
he didn't quite achieve that.

Summary: Great Tribute
Review: Dear Paul:

It is now 11:005 PM on Thursday, November 6, 2003, I have just completed page 405 (the last page) of ''A Royal Duty''. And remembering my thoughts, prayers and frantic phone calls during many of those moments in the book. I was brought to tears reliving the nightmare that I had to watch my best friend and my surrogate English family go through, while I watched helplessly. And some smiles and chuckles over lighthearted junctures.

One of many things that I have gotten from that loving tribute to Diana was that you say that you hope that her personality shines through, that is a given. The reality of the book is that your warm, loyal and loving persona shine's through like a beacon. Paul you should be very proud of this enormous insight you have given the world, through the eyes of a wounded survivor.

Summary: Thanks to NURSE M.....
Review: A very big thank you to NURSE M. Because of your glowing review of Paul Burrell's new book about Princess Diana, I am certainly going to buy it. I truly loved and admired Diana, not because she was a Princess, but because she was someone who truly cared about people and showed that in everything she did. Although she was terribly unhappy in her personal life, she always put on a smiling face for everyone she met in public, and this must have been very diffucult to do. Though she should have gotten this sort of love and admiration from inside her family, she did not, so it is nice to know that at least she was able to feel loved by people outside of her family. Most likely this is the only thing that saved her from total despair. I truly miss the Princess, and even though it has been 6 years since her death, I am still brought to tears when I think of how she must have died. To this day I have never believed it was an "accident", unless it was a very carefully planned accident, which I will always believe it was, until someone comes up with Concrete Evidence that it was not. Too bad her boys have to live without the mother they loved so dearly, just because someone wanted to do away with a wonderful person, to further their own selfish needs. I look forward to reading the book, and to the day when someone can prove How and Why Diana died?
