Rating: Summary: So it's true! Review: After reading Diana Her True Story and hearing so many beating Diana down after that book--I doubted Charles' infidelity in the early 80's. I didn't believe it till I heard of "A Royal Duty"... Now I know the truth! Poor Diana!
Rating: Summary: Good Information, Enjoyable Book Review: If you like information on what its like to be famous from a behind the scenes prospective then you'll like but not love "A Royal Duty" by Princess Diana's butler Paul Burrell. As I say, it is enjoyable but remember the writer is a butler by trade, not an author by trade and it shows. The information is good, but it could have used a better editor. I did enjoy it better than "The Making of Dr. Phil" by Sophia Dembling. However the two top in this style have to be "Living History" about politics by former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and "My Fractured Life" about the entertainment industry by Rikki Lee Travolta.
Rating: Summary: WHEN, OH WHEN, WILL THE "INTIMATE REVELATIONS" EVER STOP? Review: There are some very interesting personal photographs by the author that give some merit to this book. We've had revelatory palaver from Diana's housekeeper, private secretary, personal protection officer, supposed friends, paid analysts and "soothsayers", and lord knows some whose occupations/hobbies currently elude me.When will this unseemly torrent end? I have read the excerpted series in the [other media] and it is nice to have ALL the thoughts of the author in their proper context. Unfortunately, the book does not supply an index or a bibliography or a credible note on sources. Perhaps Mr. Burrell should be more professional in subsequent editions or the paperback version and hire an indexer and a researcher to tart up the book and give it the appearance, at least, of a scholarly tome. At least the book has the saving grace and environmental-correctness to be printed on acid-free paper which means that the author's deathless prose will last forever. Also, there are acknowledgements and one wonders how much of the book is the work of the author's "dear friend" Steve Dennis who is apparently a magician, co-passionist, and lapdog to Mr. Burrell since he apparently was with him "every step of the way." Where were Burrell's wife when Paulie (Burrell) and Stevie (Dennis) were "collaborating" in Ireland? I WILL reread the book in the hope that a historical sense of perspective will somehow emerge from it. It just barely escapes being categorised with books of the ilk of Stephen Barry's "Royal Service" . Mr. Burrell's book has some few saving graces and it will earn him oodles of cash but perhaps his selling out of the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales will enable the whole gang of them to maintain the extravagant lifestyle to which they have become VERY accustomed. The school fees and "kit" for his two boys must be horrendous and we must not forget that Maria, his wife, has to appear stylish and gracious and gorgeous at all times since she is affiliated with the author - however distantly. It is true - the butler DID do it!
Rating: Summary: Left me feeling empty Review: Although I felt like many others the tragedy of the Princess's death, I have not wanted to read the several books about her. I did pick up this recently published book, however, and it is a very easy read. It is billed as having startling revelations, but there is little here that the reader was not prepared to know given the amount of similar information from the numerous magazine, books, and documentaries, etc. that have existed for several years. I really don't need another book to reinforce my belief that Charles was/is a jerk for how he acted towards his wife. Despite the author's friendship for the Princess, I couldn't help read it and wonder what was his real purpose for the book. I do not know the man, but I can't help but feel his reasons for publishing are a bit too sleazy (as are the real reasons for the royal family's wanting to keep it from going to press). Whether it's that bad or not I can't say, but I really doubt that he was doing this so as to assist the Princess's sons as he claims. I would like to believe that the Princess cared too much about her boys to have authorized this type of tell-all book.

Rating: Summary: Being There Helps... Review: Although I have not read any of the other "Diana" books which which have been published since her death, this one is a fascinating read about the day -in and day-out lives of the royals. The author also doesn't appear to have any "axe to grind", but rather seems to have cared a great deal about Diana and is concerned that her legacy not be smeared by lies and unsubstantiated inuendos. He also makes it clear that he did (and still does) admire the Queen and other members of the royal family. If you have any interest in the Royals, this is a must read!

Rating: Summary: At last a book from someone who knew her Review: I bought the book the first day it came out and finished it the same day...I couldn't put it down. The book is a wonderful and loving tribute not only to Diana but to the Royal Family as well. After what they put him through with the trial..and the Queen regaining her memory at the last minute, Burrell deserved to tell his story. I believe Diana would have been proud of the way he has shared with the world..she gave him those letters for a reason, she wanted the real story told. Sadly many others do not. As for the book hurting the boys...I fail to see how it could. If anyone has dishonored Diana's memory since her death...it is the boys themselves. Burrell's book is wonderful...I highly recommend it for those who still respect Diana and what she tried to do for the world.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the time of day Review: Buy this book ONLY if you are interested in further lining the pockets of the heartless, money-grubbing author and his thoughtless publisher who will print anything for a buck. It has no other merits whatsoever. If Amazon had a rating system with no stars (a one-star rating is the lowest that can be chosen), that's what this book would receive because that is exactly what it deserves.
Rating: Summary: A Royal Duty or a Royal Scam? Review: There have been many books written about Diana since her death, some more sensational than others. This book will probably be the one that everyone remembers over all others because it has been written by someone who knew the Princess Royal intimately. Her Butler Paul Burrell. I do not for one minute say that this book should not have been written what I do say and believe is that it should have been written by someone else other than Paul Burrell. He will never be able to be neutral about the woman he worked for and he has his own agenda, part being I suspect a vendetta against the Royal Family for not only letting Diana down when she needed them the most but for almost letting him go to jail for supposedly stealing belongings of his dead employer. Having had a preview of this book, in the Daily Mirror no less, I am somewhat sceptical about Burrell's motives for writing it. He claims to be altruistic and wants the world to know the "true Diana" but what I have read so far is nothing more than sensationalism at its best, poetic licence in this case needs to be well and truly revoked and the reader aware that what they are reading is fiction rather than fact. This is a book that needs to be read with that proverbial bucket of salt, in fact don't use a bucket, invest in a very LARGE barrel, because though are probably a lot of truths Mr Burrell is stating, (he was her butler after all) there are also a lot inconsistencies in his prose and boy does this man know how ramble! The last time I rambled on in such a verbose way I was able bodied and making my way up Snowdonia via a well trodden track! By all means read this book, but do not accept it as the gospel about Diana Princess of Wales, even her own family did not know her, and before anyone asks, no I am not a Royalist, in fact if anything I am an anti-Royalist but I am a human being, and Paul's book is a cruel way for two young boys to find out that their mother had feet of clay.... My two star rating is based on what I have read so far, it could go up or down in the very near future, however I need to read the whole book and I will only do this when it becomes available in my local library.
