I found the medical information well researched. The characters were easy to identify with and the book held my attention all the way to the end. The ending by the way, was great! I am looking forward to Mr. Whyte's next medical mystery!

Whyte's novel, Hearts of Gold, is a riveting novel with all the ingredients to keep one turning the pages long after the lights should be out: medical and political intrigue, greed, jealousy and suspense. Its protagonist, Dr. Ike Paponis, is no hero. He wants it all--wealth, fame, women, position and influence. To that end, he enlists the aid of a fellow physician, Marty Spencer, and a lawyer, Allan Spandell, and sets about to create his empire. But Paponis is not a patient or a forgiving man, and just like the Greek heros of old, in his arrogance he is his own worst enemy. He thinks of friends as puppets he can manipulate like a master puppetteer. It seems no one can stop him, though, as he wields his power through the operating room, the bedroom, the boardroom, the corridors of local and then national political power and eventually into foreign intrigue, all in the relentless pursuit of wealth. His only god is himself. Ike's friends, all too human themselves, are unequal to the task of reining in this dangerously loose cannon. In a surprising twist, however, Paponis finds out how dangerous it is to underestimate anyone--especially the one he has underestimated the most. With a page-turning style and research that entertains rather than overwhelms, Whyte is a novelist to watch. Laurie Miller, aka Laurie Grant

This medical thriller takes more twists and leaps than a roller coaster. To say I enjoyed this book is trite. It was wonderful. Mr. Whyte weaves the perfect amount of arrogance to his main character, Ike Paponis as his misdeeds take him from his home in Oregon to the jungles of Nicaragua. As I found myself unable to put the book down, I could only hope that all of Ike's misdeeds catch up with him at some point. Mr. Whyte's skillfully written final pages will leave you gasping for air. His vast medical knowledge doesn't overwhelm, but enhances our understanding of what medical examiners and heart surgeons do inside the OR. So many authors make the mistake of having a terrific plot and weave the story very artfully only to demolish it at the end. Mr. Whyte takes his time, not rushing a single detail, and the result is one fabulous book that I hope sees much action. Lynn Price - Author of 'A Separate Beginning'
