Rating: Summary: beluga! What a hoot! Review: Beluga is a larger than life super psychic hero! A formidable larger than life woman with Muumuu's, distinct taste in food (not health food) and pastel ciggies! A delightful first novel! Her side kick, the handsome planchette is a forever feline friend.
Rating: Summary: a sharp beginning to what will surely be a great series Review: Beluga Stein is funnier than Hercule Poirot, sharper than Miss Marple, and looks better in a tent-sized frock than Sherlock Holmes. Of course, she *does* have some help from her wonderful cat--a talented, opinionated beastie who makes a perfect familiar to this wonderful new detective. In short, this is a great read. One part ghost story, one part mystery, and one part marvelous writing -- which all adds up to a fast-paced, entertaining tale that will make you wish there was more of Beluga to love.
Rating: Summary: Completely engaging Review: I loved this book and cannot wait for the next in the series! Beluga Stein is the person we all wish we could be, totally unafraid to be herself and totally unwilling to apologize for it. Her friends and the other characters in the book are eccentric but believable, as is the fact that a cat can be a familiar and ghosts can be real. The plot is completely engaging and the book such an easy read that you find yourself wishing it would go on. Thank goodness there will be more to come, based on the excerpt from the next book in the back. Certainly Beluga Stein will achieve stature equal to the other beloved, eccentric detectives such as Ms. Marple and Hercule Poirot.
